I'm all for safety first and keeping the wolf at the door so to speak but why have I been…read moreoverwhelmed by the feeling in the past several days that Phil Murphy seems far more intent on slow walking New Jersey's reopening and critical economic recovery in favor of the prospect of a Biden Bailout in January - a risk laden gambit, that according to progressive logic, will not only erase the economic carnage from the pandemic but dig the state out of our unrecoverable black hole of public sector pension obligations. New Jersey doesn't have a sub-junk bond rating and a last in the nation business climate for nothing and was on precarious financial footing long before Covid-19 came to town. Governor Murphy's no fool, he was a career plutocrat at Goldman Sachs long before he became our soft spoken healer-in-chief and fully understands the fiscal calamity he faces - a yawning debt that can only be made whole through massive federal intervention. Any pretense that populist half measures like a "millionaires tax" and sixty year bond maturities can right the ship of state are pure sophistry. So what's to be done considering that well-intentioned recommendations and soft encouragement seem to be backsliding as the virus appears to be gearing up for another run.. First, it seems beyond obvious that the governor must insist through executive order that everyone wear a mask outside of their home, revoke outside alcohol sales by restaurants and enforce social distancing and capacity limits through revocation of liquor or business licenses if that becomes necessary to curb the outwardly defiant. If certain populations believe their personal liberties will be compromised or they're at risk of becoming "sheep" at the hands of an overweening nanny state.... tough! I have great respect for the Founding Fathers but with life expectancy at 36 in 1776, their unique brand of rugged individualism may not be the best role model to emulate in a science-based crisis. I'm Libertarian by nature so the prospect of heavy-handed government intervention is repellent but the days of polite suggestions are over, New Jersey can't wait until January for federal intervention that may never happen. Too many lives and livelihoods may become collateral damage in the interim all in the name of overzealous caution. And frankly, if you're offended over the introduction of politics into Yelp because it's just rude to step on pleasantly non-partisan restaurant reviews and the like... well... if our economy doesn't open soon, all of our gauzy punditry and images of carrot cakes and cappuccino foam will just be polite anachronisms in very short order. Governor, it's time to pick a lane and fully open up the state with enforceable mandated behaviors - unless that strategy doesn't comport with the expectation of a President Biden and economic salvation from the US Treasury. Even in these grim times, it may just come down to politics as usual. In the meantime wear a mask and stop waving the Constitution unless you know what's in it.

Just called NJ UNemployment at 8:31am only to be told that due to high call volume , my call can't be answered today. Call back tomorrow. This is literally an every day message for the last 2 weeks. This governor and the whole system is a crowd of lazy mfs. High call volume one minute after 8:30 ?? What a damn joke. Fortunately, I haven't had to use the unemployment system for over 24 years , and I hope to never have to again. I feel for those who have children to feed after losing a job. I'm on just over a month with no unemployment as of yet. What a fuckin joke. Phil Murphy is a waste of a space POS.

The Clarkson S. Fisher Federal Building and Courthouse on East State Street, Trenton, NJ, was built…read morein 1932 in the Renaissance style and has undergone several renovations over the past decades to increase security. The post office that once occupied the first floor was removed because it attracted too many people and due to the inaccessibility of convenient parking. DHS eliminated street parking in front of the building because of the risks realized in Oklahoma City. My first law office in Trenton was down the block, and I still find myself in the neighborhood for the Trenton Transportation Center and state offices nearby. Recently I had a few legal matters inside the courthouse, and found my way to the courtrooms on the upper floors for conferences and oral arguments. The chambers and courtrooms are large, high ceilinged and somber compared to the local courts, and give a sense of decorum and dignity that reflects the seriousness of the issues handled there. Just ascending in the elevators and walking the halls brings forth gravitas. So, I enjoyed the time there. The arguments by both sides; the close questioning by the magistrate and judge, and even the settlement negotiations beyond the heavy doors of the inner sanctum. Even better when we succeeded. Not that anyone should want to be called to court there on the wrong end of an indictment or a civil dispute, but if you find yourself there for a less oppressive reason, take a few moments to appreciate the impressive marble, polished wood and heavy oil portraits that contribute to the history of the U. S. Judiciary, and the awesomeness it brings to your day in court.
