This is a great church. Kid zone is a great experience for the kids, and bonus that it gives parents a break. The praise and worship music is excellent! Most important, the message is always relevant and meaningful.

Blessed to make it to church today. Seeking that conscious contact.

When I first started coming regularly, I always felt so welcomed and comfortable. I've moved further away, and haven't been able to attend every week, but I still feel the aloha and love each time I attend. Pastor Dave and Pastor Hanzo and so gifted in bringing us the word of God in a way we can understand. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the worship team and the signing in the beginning. Mahalo New Hope Windward!

A funeral brought us to Anchor Church…read more The drive over from the airport via the H3 was relaxing and beautiful. The views didn't stop here as they've got a nice perch on the slopes of the Koolau looking down to Kaneohe Bay. The facilities are a mix of wooden structures and canvas tents, though a billboard in the open air lanai suggested a new permanent structure is in the fundraising works. The service was held inside a big windowless tent, complete with an HVAC system, sound, lighting and a stage. This looks to be where church services are held as well. A small kitchen supplied legit coffee and teas post service on their breezy patio.

Fellowship Friday…read more.. My mahjong friend, Cecelia, invited me to Anchor Church in Kaneohe. It's located near the Kaneohe District Park, Windward Community College, and the Hawaii State Hospital. Anchor Church has a beautiful campus! The drive up is already scenic with Norfolk pines and other outstanding foliage along the way! The views from the top are amazing! The people were very friendly and welcoming! I signed in, received a name tag and a yarn lei, and was given the schedule for the month and the calendar for 2023. Wow! Very organized! There were many activities to choose from. Luckily, my friend, Cecelia, and I have the same interests and we chose crochet over exercise; and ukulele instead of hula! We listened to the guest speakers from the Honolulu Fire Department - they had excellent information! Their slide show really emphasized their message. The potluck lunch was wonderful - we had to wear face masks while in line for the buffet meal. The servers placed food on our plates - we just told them what we wanted. We didn't touch the serving utensils. Overall, this was an educational experience! If you're available, everyone is welcome! Note: I'll return this Friday for the Valentine's Day crochet lesson!

This church is a rare commodity these days. The pastor really knows his stuff. He is a true…read morestudent of the Bible and teaches in a manner which is both engaging and convicting at the same time. Children are a major priority: They stay in church for worship time, then Pastor Perry has them go on stage for a children's sermon which mirrors what he intends to teach to the adults. They are then off to Sunday School to be taught about God's love for them. One thing that struck me on the first time I attended and since is that the pastor knows each child by name. The church also has a very active AWANA club and has an annual "Vacation Bible School" during the Summer. The youth group is a solid bunch of kids who are truly seeking the Lord's face through the assistance of the youth pastor, Pete Keizer. They meet once a week for in-depth study of the Bible as well as games and worship. They serve the community with food distribution to the needy people of Nanakuli as well as serving at the River of Life homeless shelter downtown. The music ministry is phenomenal, and the Worship Pastor, Josh Nordgren, continually encourages the musicians to improve in their musicianship and to grow in their faith. He plays a mix of modern praise songs with at least one very familiar hymn thrown in to the mix. The people in this church exemplify what is meant by "Christ Follower". They show love toward one another as well as to strangers. They spontaneously pray for one other when the need arises. They have active community outreach programs and sponsor missionaries from the church all over the world. They even created a in-house sponsorship program much like "Compassion International" to support AIDS orphans at an orphanage in Uganda. Their motto is "A family for You", and I have found that that is the perfect motto for this church. Give them a try.

I really like the big screens that show the songs at appropriate times - this eliminates the need for hymnals and thus being better for the environment! I also enjoy the air conditioning - the two churches that I visit in town do not have a/c. Sometimes I see coworkers at mass - it kinds strange seeing them outside of work - like...hey!! what are you doing here? Oh, yeah - you have a life, too! Father Herman is a good guy. He's humble and down-to-earth. It's easy to understand his homilies - which is important for me. I had met him in person as I went to a class at St. Ann's with my co-worker, called "Catholics Returning Home". We both learned a lot. I never went to Sunday School because my elementary and high schools were Catholic. Recently, I had an emergency & I needed a place to go have a good cry. It was not during regular church hours, but I tried the door of the chapel... it was open! I spent a few minutes by myself in the presence of the Lord, reflecting on the meaning of life and pondered the mystery of death and why my friend, Lucille, was taken from this earth in such a strange fashion. I was able to compose myself and write a few lines in the Book of Special Intentions near the door of the chapel. I felt at peace and that my prayers would be answered... Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May Lucille's soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen!

IMHO, it's the parishoners that make a particular church succeed. When there are people…read moreenthusiastic about their faith, then it makes the service a whole lot more entertaining than mundane. St. Ann's is a perfect example. Granted Fr. Herman is awesome, but I think it's because he is a true local guy. He went to Damien for high school! Not to say that priests from outside the state aren't great, but being effective at connecting with the local people is a great help. That's one of the main reasons why I give this place 5 stars. St. Ann's is a newer built church so it has the ac and projector screens etc. I do find the ac on the cooler side, so I try to have sleeves or a sweater on. This makes me think of the churches in Italy where it's required to have your shoulders covered when you enter. Parking in the lot is adequate, but be prepared to wait to exit after Mass. If you need to be somewhere in a hurry, park on haikū road, but careful crossing the street if you're on the mall side.
