A funeral brought us to Anchor Church. The drive over from the airport via the H3 was relaxing and beautiful. The views didn't stop here as they've got a nice perch on the slopes of the Koolau looking down to Kaneohe Bay. The facilities are a mix of wooden structures and canvas tents, though a billboard in the open air lanai suggested a new permanent structure is in the fundraising works. The service was held inside a big windowless tent, complete with an HVAC system, sound, lighting and a stage. This looks to be where church services are held as well. A small kitchen supplied legit coffee and teas post service on their breezy patio. read more

Fellowship Friday... My mahjong friend, Cecelia, invited me to Anchor Church in Kaneohe. It's located near the Kaneohe District Park, Windward Community College, and the Hawaii State Hospital. Anchor Church has a beautiful campus! The drive up is already scenic with Norfolk pines and other outstanding foliage along the way! The views from the top are amazing! The people were very friendly and welcoming! I signed in, received a name tag and a yarn lei, and was given the schedule for the month and the calendar for 2023. Wow! Very organized! There were many activities to choose from. Luckily, my friend, Cecelia, and I have the same interests and we chose crochet over exercise; and ukulele instead of hula! We listened to the guest speakers from the Honolulu Fire Department - they had excellent information! Their slide show really emphasized their message. The potluck lunch was wonderful - we had to wear face masks while in line for the buffet meal. The servers placed food on our plates - we just told them what we wanted. We didn't touch the serving utensils. Overall, this was an educational experience! If you're available, everyone is welcome! While on vacation on O'ahu, my husband and I visited Anchor Church and loved every minute of it! The people are so welcoming. The worship is amazing. Okay let's talk about this amazingly cute church hidden in Kaneohe. Its on the way to Windward Community College, take the left by the District Court, and follow the signs from there -- spotlights at night. Pre-COVID I loved going to their Sunday services! I never felt pressured to sign-up for anything or join any extra prayer groups. I could sit in the back and enjoy the sermon at my own pace. The place is AC'ed with drinks and pastries FREE before and after services. They have a lot of weekly times and dates so you could go on your not traditional Sunday and still get your cup filled. Their website is up-to-date and always featuring fun upcoming events for the church. I also really LOVE that Anchor records and streams their services! Their site has old sermons as well as new ones every week. You have the option to tune in every Sunday (which is SO great because of the pandemic). This venue is also SO beautiful for events. Funerals, weddings, baptisms, etc. You have the Ko'olau's right behind you, tons of open patio space, room for vendors, entertainers, and more, PLUS tons of seating inside! You could easily fit 100+ people if needed. Ample parking as well. During COVID Anchor does a great job at staying relevant and providing remote services for their people. Online prayer requests, streamed sermons (as mentioned), and more! ALL the staff are so amazing! No judgement here! The pastors are relatable and the messages are fine-tuned to their audiences. The warmth is always present when I attend in-person events. I would HIGHLY recommend Anchor to anybody and everybody regardless of where you are in your faith. My boyfriend and I were looking for a new home church that offered services on days besides Sundays. We happened upon this church after a friend invited us to a Friday evening service. We immediately fell in love with this church after hearing the pastor's vision and mission for the church. We love how family oriented it is and welcoming everyone is. We also love all the outreach opportunities. Every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month is Food Truck Fridays! It's a great way to invite family and friends that may not know God to come and have a meal in a non-threatening or pushy way. There is both indoor and outdoor seating which allows for people outside to still hear the message. There are so many more opportunities like movie nights during the summer, beach days, women & men's conferences, just to name a few. We also love that the messages are super relatable and the teachings are so practical. They really make reading and understanding the Bible easy! We also LOVE their worship time because we start off worshipping and also end with it! They do offer multiple services those who need a flexible schedule. Their services are at 7pm on Friday's and 9am & 11am on Sunday mornings. They even livestream their 9am service for when you're out of town or aren't able to make it in person. They also post their services on their YouTube channel so you can look back on services you've missed or would like to rewatch them. A friend brought me to Anchor Church last night to see a special speaker. Aside from weddings and funerals, I think I've only been to a church service once since high school to see Oliver North speak for New Hope Christian Fellowship. Anyway, last night's guest special speaker was John Bevere. I was very glad that I went. Upon arrival at the parking lot, there is a golf cart type shuttle that will bring you to the main entrance of the church. There were about 50 people outside socializing and enjoying a cup of coffee while I could hear uplifting, almost rock type music coming from indoors inside. After a few brief introductions we found our seat in the middle front part of the church. There were three large TV screens with the words to the song about faith, love, and devotion. There were a couple of brief prayers and introductions and then the main speaker, John Bevere who was outstanding. There was another song before the service ended and then just outside there were book sales and giveaways if you could not afford it, a taco truck, a cupcake truck, fruit popsicles, coffee and hundreds of people enjoying the fellowship. I am definitely not a traditional church goer but it is strongly recommended even as a wonderful social event. read more

Great church! Solid Biblical teaching but still relevant to the times. They meet in a tent, but it's the most modern tent you've seen. Plenty of parking. Good childcare and lots of ways to make friends and get involved. The service started with rockin' music and didn't let down from there. Definitely worth checking out on the Windward side of Oahu (especially if you're new to the islands). read more

Have been going to Anchor Church since November and I absolutely love it. Worship is amazing!! I have met so many wonderful women thru my connect group. Pastor Carl and Pastor Tom are wonderful. I love that they have a Friday night service. Especially Food Truck Friday on the first and third Fridays of each month. If we have plans Friday night then it's super easy for us to go to the Sunday service at 9 or 11 in the morning. So happy I found Anchor Church! read more

Excellent church with solid teachings and very caring staff pastors, as well as a friendly congregation. Everyone makes you feel welcome as soon as you arrive, and dining/coffee options available after services provide ample opportunities for fellowship. The sermons are well planned and grounded in scripture (you'd think that goes without saying, but if you've churched around, you know this isn't the case everywhere) but are not at all slow or boring. Likewise, the worship that starts and ends service is lively and heartfelt. Because services are available at a variety of times, including Friday nights and three services on Sunday morning, you can pretty much always make it to hear a particular week's message, even if you couldn't make it to the service of your choice due to a conflict. Plus, even if you're home bound (i.e., by illness), you can watch all services live online! Super helpful. Definitely worth the drive out to the windward side every week by this townie! read more

I LOVE THIS CHURCH!!!! Are you tired of feeling like a number? A spectator? Another penny in the coffer? Look to Anchor Church! The sermons are relevant to today, the worship is not like going to a concert but something the worship team genuinely leads YOU into. True corporate worship of God where everybody sings! I love it! I feel loved whenever I go. The best thing I have found is what they call connect groups. It is a mid-week get together of a few people to share life with, to pray with, to walk with Jesus with. My husband and I searched for a church for awhile until we found Anchor. The worship music is good and the sermons are usually great. We love going to the 9 or 11 am service but we go Fridays if it works better with my husbands schedule for work. This church really has the Aloha spirit and they are genuine. This is a wonderful church for young singles or families. Actually it's pretty rare to see anyone over the age of 60 here. I have heard amazing things about their youth program. However, the children's church leaves much to be desired. There are no worship services or engaging bible teaching for the littles. Not until youth age (4th grade and up) they might be doing lessons but not in a way where my children were learning or able to recall the stories or people in the Bible. The corporate worship is only contemporary, no hymns or classical/ traditional worship music at all. Sometimes the contemporary songs are not the best choices for corporate worship as they are wordy, new and not about God but more about self. The teaching is simple and somewhat systematic.The messages are not bad but for someone who is very familiar with the scriptures you may not get your fill here. They are also into numbers here with a big emphasis on how many can we save each service? Posting the number boldly in their announcements each week. Yet, not big into disciplineing once you have been saved. In my personal experience as someone called to the ministry I had a very hard time getting involved here. It was So hard in fact, I felt it was a God thing leading to me going elsewhere. This church has a great celebrate recovery program. A wonderful and equipped couple dedicated to Christ run CR. I Highly recommended it for anyone in need of support in that area. I would recommend this church to anyone with youth and anyone new to the church. read more

We love this church! We love the views and the atmosphere and the music is amazing. Pastor Carl, Pastor Rob And Pastor Tom always share an awesome sermon. We have personally connected with Pastors Rob and Tom and think they are both wonderful. There are tons of "connect groups" or small groups that you can connect with. There is a moms group that meets every week. And their children's ministry is nice. We tried a few different churches before we finally felt that this is the one we felt most drawn to and welcomed. This church was a huge part of our life when we lived in Hawaii. We are military and didn't fully feel at home until we came to Anchor Church. They are dedicated to serving the whole family-an amazing children's church lead by warm and loving Aunty Kristine and Pastor Jodi take care of the Little's while adults can get a great message from Pastors Carl, Tom and Rob. Tami, the women's pastor, is the most genuine, wonderful woman I have ever met. Worship is on point! I love love love this church. From the outdoor seating to the Aloha spirit of welcoming everyone. We started attending this church about a year ago. My husband jumped right into volunteering as soon as we started attending. I however have been back and forth to the mainland quite often and felt it wasn't fair to commit to volunteering just yet. Even though I wasn't involved, everyone seemed to recognize me when I attended and greeted me. The pastoral staff is great and always available to greet and chat about life or whatevers. Our daughter loves the youth program here which is the initial reason we continued to come back. She wasn't getting connected at the other churches we visited. When she actually became excited to attend church we said, we've found our church. She still loves her teachers and the other kids here. My one complaint about this church...it seems as if you must be over 6 feet tall of above to attend. The way they have their seats situated, directly in front of one another instead of staggered, I can't ever see anything standing at 5'1". I miss the entire worship and sermon due to this. read more
