Saba/Mackerel from the complimentary Japanese breakfast option.
    L. J.

I think I've found my new favorite hotel when visiting SoCal. Me and my friend are young girls not familiar with the area. The free parking in their garage with 24/7 security made us feel safe when we had to drive back to the hotel past midnight on the multiple nights we were there. The street noises outside of our hotel room was white noise for me. That, plus the blackout curtains in the room gave me the most relaxing sleep after driving 6+ hours. It was almost eerie, but well-needed for tired travelers like me, at how quiet the hotel was. It was actually a very busy place with guests constantly checking in/out, but you couldn't ever tell because even the children there with families were very respectful and not loud at all like how kids can be. Our room was clean (everything at the hotel looked very clean and well-maintained) and it was during our stay here when I realized I've been missing out on not having a bidet all my life. Lol. For the complimentary breakfasts, I opted for Japanese over the American option for all of the mornings I was there. My meals were very fulfilling, and this is coming from me, a big back who eats more than they should. I chose mackerel on my first day and salmon on my second morning. The bento presentation and how flavorful everything was could easily have cost $$$ outside at standard Japanese restaurants. These breakfasts are way yummier than anything they'd have at the IHOP across the street! Best of all, all of their staff were very polite and respectful, including the front desk, garage security, housekeeping and my favorite, the morning breakfast host and staff. The hotel had mostly Japanese clientele/travelers. I am not one, but all of the employees I came across during our stay were welcoming and never did I ever feel uncomfortable. I would definitely stay here again the next time we are in the area and I could confidently recommend the hotel to my friends and family.

Located in the heart of Gardena, conveniently located on Redondo Beach Blvd is the New Gardena Hotel. It's approximately seven miles from LAX with easy access on and off the 405, 91 and 110 freeways. For the number of visits and a few stays, I am finally writing this review. Things have progressively changed Previously and now updated: 1) complimentary breakfast was included with your nightly stay. Today, no breakfast but they now offer complimentary dinner. Several choices are offered along with their one daily special. 2) no rules for parking in the garage; today, you have a stub which you leave on your dashboard. (No stub, you risk getting towed) 3) Happa Restaurant was there to serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. They had an adjoining sports bar. Today, sports bar is gone and a local korean restaurant now serves meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. 4) A smoking section was designated but today, the dining establishment and hotel is a Non Smoking Establishment. If you are a smoker, you would have to exit the building and smoke outside (on the street side) Some things remain constant: 1) pleasant service at the front desk and around the Premises 2) moderately priced and if you're on their corporate guest list (and this list goes back to Day 1, you are still entitled to the various corporate perquisites; like circa 2000 prices, automatic upgrade for your room if available, complimentary soft drink in your room, early check in and a few others 3) CLEAN room and Premises. Drug and grocery stores are located within walking distance along with Starbucks, MacDonald's and the like. If you are passing through the City of Gardena or if you have an evening event that may cause you to have a staycation; the New Gardena Hotel is the place for you.

JAPANESE STYLE BREAKFAST. THEY OFFER COMTINENTAL ONE TOO.

Short hair like that seems to be trimmed from somewhere unsightly in my opinion) on the very pillow I was going to lay my head on!!! Genuinely disappointed, mildly disturbed, never again. The 3.7 rating or whatever ratings has by the time you view it are lying to you. You'd be better off staying somewhere else. Normally Hilton has some pretty decent places, but I'm ashamed to say this place generally felt very... meh. I'm not making this one star because the receptionist was nice about my reservation, even after having a bit of a hard time finding our reservation (someone else's reservation showed up for us somehow) and found an accessible room for my family and I (elderly individuals in my family). Very old and outdated, no valet or bellman as mentioned above. Very deceiving looks. I would say goodnight (as of the time of writing this), but I doubt I'll be getting any sleep after the "pillow hair incident" of haunting my dreams.

Otherwise, there are better options all over the Southland including other Hampton Inns. My review is coming from the perspective of a Hilton Honors Lifetime Diamond member. I stay in plenty of Hampton Inns around the US and even some around the globe. I recognize that it is in the budget arm of the Hilton brand portfolio and when I stay at a Hampton Inn, I am not expecting high-end, luxury amenities, personal services, or public spaces with artwork. I am looking for a reasonable price for the area market, a safe and clean stay, and casual but professional staff interactions. The 2 features I like about this hotel are the free self-parking and the overall cost for the local market. Almost all other hotels in and around this area (within 10 miles of LAX) charge some parking fee which this property does not. Also, the room price was not dirt cheap but was among the lowest of the other area hotels of similar comfort levels. While it is hard to not like that, I came away from my first stay here with an understanding that you get what you pay for. It is in an odd location, just off of the freeway and jammed into some open ground abutting 60 mph traffic. Just be aware that it is not really sound-proofed so freeway noise is going to be present. Also, the desk staff seems to have been called up from the bush-league. Like most hotels, guaranteed check in is at 3p. I happened to arrive early at 1:30p to an empty parking lot and a quiet lobby and thought the likelihood of me getting into a room early might be high. The desk agent did not look up at me standing at his desk until I intentionally made some noise and then instead of greeting me like a guest, he asked what I wanted as if I was interrupting him. I told him my name on the reservation and asked if I might check in early. He told me no immediately without even checking if there were rooms available. I have done this enough to know that it is sometimes helpful for the front desk to check to see if there were rooms available early and so I asked if he would check and he told me he knew that there were none. When I asked if he knew if any would be available early, he told there would not be any available until 3p and that they would text me if something opened up. I left a little annoyed because I felt like I had been blown off and I started driving away to look for somewhere to grab a late lunch. I received a text 8 min later that a room was now ready. When I got back to the hotel to ask about it, he acted like he had no idea who I was as he was checking me in. I thought it was odd when I had to ask if I could have a bottle of water which is a benefit I get for being a Diamond member. He gave me one but would not have had I not asked and I never received any acknowledgement of loyalty. I never really expect that anyway but I find it nice when a hotel staff will welcome me as a guest based on that. It just shows that they spent some time paying attention to caring about their customer base. The hotel was clean but clearly old and in need of a refresh. There is a lot of chipped paint in the public spaces. In the end, I got a bed, a parking space, did not get robbed, and did not see bed bugs. But I also got zero in terms of polite and professional service, no loyalty recognition, and no warm and fuzzy endearment to want to stay here again.

I checked in after an emergency cancellation from air BnB and there is always someone on site to assist you. Everyone so far has given excellent customer service. The prices are by the day so rates vary, but this is a last-minute spot for people on a dime. It's 1000% better than my stay in Inglewood for almost the same price, and a million times better than my random website bookings otherwise. People just want a 5-star hotel on a fast-food budget it seems, but this served every purpose I needed. And obviously no insane charge for mandatory valet on-site parking, which some high-end hotels use to charge more per room. The room itself is great. The location is not a fancy neighborhood obviously, but I've seen the Four Star Sheraton by the airport has some horrible reviews. This motel itself is awesome after having to compromise so much with my dogs with me. There's AC, plenty of parking, it's close to the 405 (main north-south) freeway, there's a mini fridge, a shower, good wi-fi, and a nice bed to sleep in. And it is as safe as it can be in California as it's video monitored. It was clean as well. I happened to lose my phone during this whole scenario and front desk was kind enough to try to help me find it. I'm sure they get plenty of customers similar to those reviewing who are overly demanding yet cheap. Cheap meaning, won't pay but demand beyond what they can afford anyway. Not on a budget.
