One of my favourite bars in the fair land of Hamiltonia!…read more ML3 is located pretty out of the way of most amenities, with it not being particularly close to either Hamilton train station; but somehow still manages to stay incredibly busy and popular at the weekends. It is quite a pricey bar in comparison to the rest in Hamilton, but I think that's because it's trying to market itself as more of a student pub. Plays sky sports, has a big modern jukebox, and the staff are great. Nothing much more to say about this great wee place!

Weekends in here are quite busy, and are usually full with the younger crowd. It is a cosy pub, quite small with a big fireplace making it feel really quaint and comfortable. The drinks are quite expensive though, with a glass of red wine coming in at just under five pounds, restaurant prices. Not somewhere I would go out of my way to visit, but nice enough if you land there by accident.

Everything about it seems tired and somewhat sticky, carpets and tables included. I can't vouch for the food but from what I saw delivered to the tables nearby I can't say I was remotely tempted. It was 6pm Saturday evening and if you don't like football your stuffed!! Every telly was showing the latest match results so not really much conversation or atmosphere in the place. Perhaps I picked a bad time to go but sadly disappointed in what used to be one of my favourite watering holes.

Just minutes away from Buchanan Street and George Square, this fairly large pub has a generous…read moreamount of seating and can handle larger crowds. However, due to the televisions, good food and convenient location, it will fill quickly especially when matches are on. There are several small intimate booths and alcoves where you can escape the noise of the larger pub and a large room in the back can also be used to escape the central throng. This pub has served for me as a quick stop during a peace march past George Square, an opportunity to have a quick bite away from Buchanan Street crowds and an excellent place to take in a football match on their large screen televisions. Some good beers on tap, range of lagers and ales, and decent gantry. Good food served during the day. If you want to avoid the Wetherspoons "Superpub" across the street, then this place will serve you well. The dripping cornices and assorted items on the wall may please your visitng friends and family more than the corporate decor in the Counting House.

A voice on a mic started encouraging people to the dance floor, eh... what dance floor pal? Suddenly the pub was a mass of kilted lads... oh hello, and lassies, swooshing aboot to the Gay Gordons. I ken it had been Burn's Night the night afore so I'm guessing the partying was still going on like. (Ooft got all East side there). Coopers is alright, it's got tasty food and drinks, service is good but I would avoid like the plague if the fitbaw (football/soccer) is oan. Well unless you like the football. This does put me off a bit about the place. Best seats are up on the mezzanine level but can be sometimes reserved for parties. Btw there's a mezzanine level if you wanna reserve for a party. Good pub, good location, only a hop, skip and a set of lights from Kelvinbridge underground. Drink, food, seats, big screen tv, loads of tvs and a mezzanine. Check? Sorted!

It's a small pub, but I thought it was really cosy and warm and I quite liked it! It's sort of an old mans pub, but the interior is quite contemporary, with bare stone walls and big plush couches, and a well populated darts board in the corner. It's got a couple of 'rooms' almost, with two seating areas away from the bar, and its also a sports bar, with large screens showing sky sports channels. Great wee atmosphere, and good for a drink after dinner in Riva!

We are from the US and I have lived in the Boston area for almost 40 years. Anyway, I wanted to try more traditional Scottish cuisine. Ordered a Scotch egg, which was amazing! A crispy fried outside with delishness inside. The Cottage Pie was hot and very flavorful with tender beef, gravy and mashed on top. I asked if The Griffin had won any elite food awards because it was that good!! Not to mention the great friendly attitude from all staff, as we just went in and seated ourselves not knowing the etiquette of the establishment! It was a relaxed pub atmosphere with an incredible dining experience!!

A few months back the venue relaunched itself as a pre-club bar, getting reasonably well known DJs in to play at weekends. The problem is that The Gate is nowhere near the vast majority of nightclubs that cater for the new crowd they're trying to aim at (slightly neddy but with plenty cash, likes Ibiza, house music and watching Big Brother), with only Byblos nearby. The result is a place that can be surprisingly quiet on weekends, especially compared to some of it's neighbours. It's a shame because it's actually a very well laid out and aesthetically pleasing little bar. The whole pre-club thing just doesn't seem to work, or even fit with the look and feel of the place. Fingers crossed they'll change it soon.

The Bull is as handsome a bar as you will find in the west of Scotland and its traditional fittings and homely atmosphere are almost worth the jaunt to Paisley alone.
