This former bed and breakfast was turned into the local YMCA back in the 1920's. In the 1940's the gymnasium was added onto the home. The gymnasium has original hardwood floors and subway tiles. Yesterday I happened upon a discussion that was aimed on identifying a "new" piece of merchandise. It was a decorated throw with a stately military figure in the center and looked to be from the 1800s. Who was this guy? Why was his likeness on a blanket? Quickly the entire shop, customers and staff alike, were involved in attempting to identify this man. Well after a few minutes and some help from internet searches, Admiral Dewy was identified! This carriage blanket is likely from the late 1890s! Google search Admiral Dewy to learn why he was admired enough to be put on a blanket. I can't promise you such an adventure every time you visit Shady Lane, but get out there and find a mystery piece of your own and make it yours. P.S. Please don't tell my Wife how much I spent yesterday. I got some great stuff!
