A lot of emphases is placed on learning with a laptop. . (All wifi are turned off at 11pm at night.). Considering all standardize tests in the US are computerized (MCAT, LSAT) and most work environments in the US use electronic records exclusively, lap top in classroom is a good idea. Students come from all over the world with the goal of attending a college in the US. SVA has transformed itself in the past few years to focus on college prep for international students. Class sizes are small, usually less than 10 students per teacher. I noticed the students get alone with each other rather well. This is observed during lunch time. I see students from different countries sit next to each other. Dorm rooms are 1-4 students per room. Most of the ones I saw have 3 students in them. There is a microwave on each hall, fridge and safe in each room. Overall the rooms are larger than the one I used to live at UC Berkeley 20 years ago. (unit 1 Cheney) and much larger then the tiny rooms at Univ of Tennessee. Washers and dryers are free for students to use. At night, dorm exits have security alarms, hallways are video monitored SVA pride itself at offering a balance between academic and personal development. They encourage students to take advantage of it's location to learn many physical activities Tahoe has to offer - hiking, soccer, golfing, cycling, ski / snowboard. I think this makes SVA different from other college prep school. I have the opportunity to spoke to students there. Due to the many Saturday field trips student take, expect another $4000 or so in additional expenses. While the students like them, parents may be surprised at the bill.

A school centered around the teacher's needs rather than inclusivity for new families entering their school for the first time at high school level. My child's current teacher borders on verbal abuse, with her attitudes fueled by her own ignorance and judgements. The school counselor in 2020-2021 went out of her way to personally check on a highly sensitive family matter, above and beyond her duty to ethically report, breeching the ethics of her position and the confidence she attempted to build up with my child. Total trust violations since day one is my consensus. The school receptionist in 2020 did not make eye contact with me and only addressed my child directly when we came in together to get her enrolled. My child and I feel blacklisted for unknown reasons and the "we live in a small town," attitude is not digestible in this case. Taking my concerns to the school board for harassment/profiling and negligence. There are not adequate resources available for children with 504 plans, this aspect of my child's experience has been exploited by the administration and teachers who truly do not bother or appear willing to learn about their students and their families. Their parent/school communicator application is one-sided, parents can reply, however, their remarks can only be viewed by the administrators themselves. Believe you me, I fill out my annual parent survey as a bare minimum contribution but there isn't ever enough information provided in direct response (feedback). I feel too defeated by these obstacles mentioned, that now feel overwhelmingly harmful, despite my wanting to do more for my child and her school. I have commented several times about this from the start, which has fallen on deaf ears. My daughter's administrator and teacher have not considered the health and safety of my child on major intervention strategies implemented by me, her parent, in coordination with the school and county mental health programs. I am exhausted as a mom by the brokenness of our local education system, in particular, with poorly qualified or uninspired, ill-informed administrators. Consider this my white flag. I have been patient and diligent and we have not gotten the same respect in return.

Don't call them if you have any concerns at all about your child's safety, well being or education…read more They will be rude and condescending and try to make you feel stupid. 6 inches of snow on the ground at my house, still snowing and I tried to call my son's school to find out information. They finally answered when it was too late to get my son to the bus, so now I am expected to drive him in the snow all the way into town (I live about 9 miles from the school, past another district, in a weird part of the district in town). They told me that I should be prepared for the snow if I live up here. Really? My issue isn't about being prepared, it's about having severe snow driving anxiety that stemmed from a horrible car accident I was in years back. I don't believe anyone at the district office has any right to be addressing concerned parents. It looks like this is the last year my son is in this school district with these people who obviously want money for the district so bad they won't call a snow day to keep the children safe. I have never had an issue that they did help with, all I have ever gotten was an attitude about everything. I am happy with my son'a school, but this district and it's employees are bottom shelf. Not who you want to speak with when you want your concerns to be heard. Immature and completely useless.
