It is a short drive to downtown Neumunster shopping. Downsides: Tiny shower that you must step up into. None..zero-I mean not one-toiletry provided, other than liquid hand/body/hair do it all soap. For ladies, no way to stand close to mirror to put makeup on, and the makeup mirror provided is way over against the left wall behind the toilet; Not even accessible. Also, no wash rags. What? Only two hand towels, two scraggly bath towels. I am a fan of frugality, but not really when I am traveling and spending good euro at a hotel; My bath towel had a patch on it. Seriously.

They have a fitness room ... well, it's a treadmill and a bike that's it... not even a weight or a bench. What is worse, the fitness room is open only from 10am to 8pm. I mean, it might sound hard to believe but I assume most of guests are here for some type of business as I don't think this is considered a vacation spot... therefore the poorly equipped gym is worthless as it's only open when I'm at work. The only real plus is that the staff seems really nice.

To begin with, the service was impeccable- the staff was friendly, helpful, and constantly looking for ways to improve our dining experience. The food itself was similarly fantastic; providing us a great blend of tasty and imaginative cuisine. Every dish (and there were many of them if you include the complimentary amuse-bouches) was a creative blend of flavors and textures. The restaurant was also very accommodating with regards to dietary restrictions (gluten-free in my case), which is always a big plus. To top it all off, while the restaurant was certainly not inexpensive in an absolute sense (€59 for a 4 course meal), it was excellent value as the dining experience was truly top notch. We started with a salmon carpaccio which was to die for, followed by celeriac cream soup with ravioli which was also exceptional. This was followed by veal filet which was done perfectly medium rare, tender and a real treat. Last a creme brulee with thyme and berries which was a perfect finish to an extraordinary meal. I don't give five stars often but Villa Mare deserves it. The service was extraordinary, the setting superb and overall an absolutely five star dining experience not to be missed.
