The Night Oven Bakery is bespoke, with modern design and meager offerings. I came specifically…read morebecause they were recommended for butter tarts and galettes, and we wanted to carry out enough for a family gathering. An hour after opening there were no galettes and only two butter tarts; one of their basket cars was completely empty. I can't fault them for that but limited offerings from a bakery an hour after opening raises eyebrows. We ended up ordering two types of pastry, a croissant with apples on top and something whose name I've forgotten, but it starts with a V and came in two varieties, apple and cherry. It was essentially a dense, heavy sweet bread with custard and fruit on top. The custard was very nice but the dense blandness of the pastry was a disappointment. The croissant was also very heavy and chewy; it appeared shortcuts were taken in its making by using fewer and thicker layers of dough. I ordered a coffee and was told they were out of brewed coffee--again, one hour after opening. As an alternative I opted for an Americano with cream and sugar, which was presented to me warm rather than hot. My overall experience was disappointing and for folks wanting substance over surface appearances, I recommend looking elsewhere.

They must have been good because they disappeared pretty quickly. We had just missed the sandwich cutoff so decided to come by the next day before heading out. We were not disappointed. My wife and I had the breakfast sandwich. Mine with smoked salmon and her with the bacon. You really have to appreciate fresh ingredients and the salmon combination was a good choice. My son had a salmon sandwich and raved about it. This will undoubtedly will become his go to place. The owner gave us a fresh loaf to take with us. We used it for open face sandwiches that night. There is a lot to be said about quality products. This was quality. Moist and hearty multigrain loaf. There is a lot to be said about shopping local. A small little place in a strip mall serving fantastic food. All I could think of was all those people going to Timmy's or McDs and spending almost as much on mass produced products. Stop and smell the roses. Better yet, stop and enjoy local food. We will be back every time we are back in the city.
