Psst! I've got a secret to share. I feel like we know each other well enough now, Yelpers, and I…read morefeel like I can trust you with it: Seng Kee may not be the prettiest place on earth: but it's my most visited for yum cha, hands down. I know, I know: everyone gives the title of Adelaide's Best Yum Cha to Ding Hao or Star House - but this humble little eatery, smack bang in the busy Central Market International Food Court , has lots to recommend it. I end up getting my yum cha dumpling fix here 8 times out of 10. Why? Well, it's open throughout the week (you have to wait for the weekend to get the restaurant variety of yum cha) which is a good start; it's located in the Central Market, so I can get my deli goodies and stop for a coffee at the same time; and most importantly - it's really freaking good yum cha. The selection is plentiful. Personal faves include bean curd, which is cooked just right (soft and not too chewy), perfectly soft sui mai, and the BBQ pork buns are a dream in bun form. It all comes to you fresh and hot and with major flavour and lots of soy sauce and chilli oil. It's got all the staples you know and love, and even better you won't break more than a $10 getting your fill. And while it doesn't have fancy surrounds, the staff behind the counter are always friendly and the jam-packed lunchtime crowd of the food court has a charm all of its own. So now you know guys - keep it under your hat will you? I don't want a line up next time I'm there....

I've had yum cha at restaurants with Michelin stars. Seng Kee is better than all of them. Hands down. It's not even close. Seng Kee yum cha is the standard by which I judge yum cha. Last year when I returned to Adelaide, I made a special trip because nobody else in the world has been able to recreate that perfect balance of fresh seafood and herbs. How is Adelaide so blessed among nations, as to have the finest dim sum in the world available in a food court?

Great foods & beautiful ambience in general. l ate there…read morefew times previously and heard that one of the manager was rude. However, Tonight was the first time i experienced it firsthand. I went there at dinner time and asked him politely if they still have "yum cha" (normally served at breakfast time); however, i know that some restaurants still serve it despite night time. To my horror the manager replied by pointing his side forehead as if saying i have no brain for asking yum cha this late at night. I was shocked, taken aback and offended. His behaviour was no way acceptable for customer service especially at managerial level. I feel sorry for the rest of the staff there, if the manager can behave that rude to customers, imagine how he treats his staff.

It definitely pays to book. The decor is upmarket classic and there are the most beautiful floral illuminations on the ceiling. Staff swarms all over the place, welcoming and efficient. More or less. One of the dishes we ordered came very late, once everything else was well and truly finished. It seemed to have been overlooked. But it was delicious. Everything was special. Wine ordered on arrival was promptly brought and, a Kiwi Savvy, it was superb. Chinese tea. Table water. There was plenty to drink. We began with Sang Choy Bow, crisp iceberg lettuce leaves with utterly delectable filling. The fried lamb with cumin came with well-sizzled vegetables, all scented with cumin, a zing of chili and a crispy edge of pan fry. Braised beef on rice noodles provided another whole taste pleasure, softer and just slightly sweet. The green beans with minced pork in XO sauce were neither over nor undercooked. And, my special off-menu request of wok-tossed beansprouts with ginger and chili was accepted willingly and cooked perfectly. Unusually, we had vegetarian fried rice with this meal - the particular tastes of our friends being a strong influence on what we ordered. The rice was delicate and lovely. The steamed chicken was so late to the table that it was like an after-course. But the chicken was succulent and just cooked, surrounded by excellent bok choy. They did not yet have a dessert menu but the waiter reeled off what was available. We chose the red bean pancake which came out rather heavily fried and very hot. Icecream would have been good with it. But we enjoyed the sugar hit. And then the complementary slices of fresh fruit, a nice touch. There is a sense of authenticity and sophistication to this new incarnation of Eastern Gardens. I loved it.

Their Yum Cha mainstays are consistently good - I particularly like their radish cake and zhaliang (the chinese donut encased in rice noodle). I can say with certainty that I've never had a bad experience here, be it the staff or the food - but it does get a little crowded and noisy, so bear that in mind if you're coming in during peak hours. Great food, wonderful staff and generous servings all for a fairly good price - Ding Hao is hard to beat for Yum Cha in Adelaide.

Located next to the court house on Gouger Street (in which I have yet to be convicted of anything in.....yay for me), Ding Hao is known as one of the top Chinese restaurants in the city. Although the normal menu is nothing to sniff at, it's all about the Yum Cha! I have noticed that one of my fellow Yelpers, Andrew C, has named the place 'Best in Adelaide for Yum Cha'. Energetic and stinging Hi-Five's coming your way Andrew, becuase I am in full agreement! Everytime I head in there and see that wonderful check list of tantilising bite sized morsels, tears of joy begin to well and the 'ticks' begin to fill more spaces than they should! The dumpling casings are soft but firm and the filling is high quality, stupidly hot and 'heart skip a beat' tasty. The steamer boxes keep coming, just as you have knocked off the previous one, and before long the weight of your over enthusiastic ordering hits you. Somehow I always seem to battle through and finish every last dumpling and steam bun (I am quite the trooper!). Some days can get busy, so book ahead, but if you are looking for a feed for lunch during the week you shouldn't have too many problems.

There are 7 outside patio tables seating up to 4 chairs and about roughly the same tables and seating inside where you are cooled from the summer heat or foot traffic. Friendly server will guide you on your meal selection unless you're an advent DimSum goer, you already know the drill. Typical SiuMai to more courageous Chicken Feet with Black Bean sauce, they have a whole sleuth of selection to choose from. I didn't stay long enough to experience the more crafty Chinese authentic cuisines, but from the dim sum themselves, I'm pretty sure they will be as excellent. We ordered a few items to try out this DimSum place: -- Chicken Feet with Black Bean Sauce (very tender and savory) -- SuiMai Pork (very flavorful and fresh) -- Steamed Ox Tripe (tender, no too hard or soft and juicy) -- Beef Tripe with Ginger sauce (steamed to perfection) Recommending this place if you're ever in town here in Chinatown!!
