I am gonna call this maternity hospital Podolí in this review as we do. One of the best maternity…read morehospitals in Europe if we will talk about professional level of doctors. The second thing is customer approach. Let´s look at both. But first some generall facts. It doesn´t look awesomely beautiful from outside but it´s really nicely looking inside. Plenty of space, old statues, continuously renovated a rooms (for pacients) are big enough, especially if you are on of those private ones (which I totally recommend to book). Ok and now about those two things. As i said the first one is professional. Generally speaking czech obstetrics is on very high level. We have one of the lowest mortality in the world (top 3 actually). And Podolí is on the top of the rank. If any other hospital has some problems with mom and kid so they try to get them to this one (or Apolinář). They have the best skills and experiences. They can save babies which would be doomed somewhere else. That´s actually amazing. If any mom knows that the birth is risky, they go automatically to this hospital. So all and all, there is no question about the high level of professionalism of local medical staff. But there is a second thing and it is customer approcach and not only here but generally in czech hospitals. We carry this weight from comunist time when customer didn´t really matter or better said customer´s opinion. So in this case, it´s like I am the doctor and you are just a patient so you shut up and listen me because I am always right. Well, I understand that those people study for six or more years and have plenty of experiences but that doesn´ t mean that they can´t be more flexible in approcach and communication towards clients. Also many people wants to know exactly what will go on and the type approacch "Well, I could tell you but you wouldn´t understand so why should I" is also not the right one. So that´s the "dark" side of hospitals generally including Podolí. But not everything is so bad and now I am talking about Podolí. It´s getting better and it´s more or less really up to which doctor you meet because there are lights in the dark. Also all doctors and many midwifes speakes english in this hospital so that´s cool. Worse situation is with nurses. They don´t really speak so discussion with them might be sometimes frustrating or confusing but it´s not so horrible as it can sound. All and all I recommend this maternity hospital because the life of your baby is always the most important thing.

No one could see him for days and we were referred to this university hospital by our Air BnB superhost. He received excellent care and saw an ear nose and throat physician. The only reason we are not giving this five stars is because it was very difficult to figure out where to go, the place has a rather austere and cold look about it (dark cold war era feel) and it was not as well marked in English so we relied on stopping people and asking for information. Luckily everyone spoke enough English to help us. That being said we would recommend this hospital to anyone looking for urgent care type services in Prague. The price was very reasonable for anywhere, especially compared to US medical prices. It is at the end of the Metro green/A line, the stop called Nemocnice Motol. The hospital itself and the "foreigners reception" area is basically straight across from the entrance to the metro. There are at least two hospital pharmacies on site - one closes at four pm and another is located in the open courtyard area directly across from the metro entrance and that was open after 4 PM but I do not remember the closing time. That Pharmacy had excellent air conditioning! Nowhere else in the hospital was there any that we encountered. The foreigners reception area has three or four stations with chairs for people to give the intake person all their information. That is on the right side. On the left are two stations for children and people who need to stay at the hospital. They take your information (drivers license or passport needed) and they require a 1000 Czech kronor deposit. They then send you to the appropriate floor to see the type of position that you need. After you see the physician you return to the foreigners reception area and either get a refund if your services were less than 1000 Kč or you pay them the balance due. For my husband it was 1102 Kč or at the time of this writing roughly $55. That your drops they prescribed were only $5! There is a Canadian doctors chain that we could not get into but they responded via email and said it would've been anywhere from 3000 to 6000 Kč for a visit. Obviously the university hospital was much less expensive and he saw a specialist fairly quickly. It was a Monday afternoon and to us it did not seem busy. The total time it took from arrival to departure was roughly an hour and 15 minutes.
