Update: Since posting this review, the owner of Nelson Landscaping reached out to us directly and is working to make things right. We appreciate his personal involvement and willingness to take accountability. While we had challenges during the project, we're encouraged by their commitment to resolving the issues. I'll continue to update this review as we move through the process. -------------------------------------------- We hired Nelson Landscaping to improve our poolside area in Edmond, aiming for something cohesive and functional. While the crews were great, the rest of the experience left us frustrated--and stuck with a space that doesn't work. We were sold on flagstone set in decomposed granite (DCG), but in reality it's totally impractical for a pool patio. The DCG is rough on bare feet and constantly washes into the pool, staining our new concrete. Worst of all, the amount of flagstone was drastically underquoted. When I pointed this out, they came back with filler pieces, which helped visually--but it's still not functional. The area is uncomfortable and not practical for furniture or barefoot traffic, which was the entire point of the project. Communication was poor. We were rarely informed when crews would show up, and a comment from the salesman ("all you women want to see what it's going to look like") when I asked for visuals was unprofessional and frustrating. A concrete crack formed within a month, which is still unaddressed a year later as no one returned my multiple calls. I even reached out to the owner whose email address is listed on the website and still only heard back from our salesman. The crews did great work--but the planning, oversight, and professionalism were severely lacking. If you're hiring Nelson Landscaping for pool area landscaping, flagstone patios, or outdoor design in Edmond, ask a lot of questions and don't rely on them to act like the experts. In February 2024 I requested the services of Nelson Landscaping to add a sunroom addition to our back porch area. The end of March I paid a 25% deposit to get the work initiated. They were also to provide some landscaping in the back yard. On May 14 I paid an additional 25% to start work. We were told the project would take about 6 weeks to complete On May 22 concrete was poured. On June 10 builders came and began framing the addition, which only took 3 days to get it completed. I was then told they had to wait to set in windows as two of them had broken in transit/delivery. We also had to wait for fireplace that was on backorder. On June 14 an additional 25% was requested to continue work on project. July 19 the concrete was stained, but has cracks in high-traffic areas that I believe will expand and/or chip in the future (needs to be repaired). The windows were set in and fireplace installed. Gas, electric, heat/air were put in place. Gas/electric inspection failed on first inspection. Was corrected and has now passed. Framing inspector came on 8/27 and rejected the inspection for a list of reasons. Return inspection on 9/4 was again rejected for items not completed. Third inspection on 9/20 was again rejected. I was initially told that this process would take about 6 weeks. It has been OVER 7 MONTHS since my initial down payment and 6 months since project began. There is always some excuse why things aren't getting completed or failing inspection. We could have had an entire house built by now by most professionals! Sheetrock and ceiling were completed end of October. Sheetrock people came by on 2 days to ask about getting paid. Since I already paid Nelson Landscaping, I gave them contact info for Nelson and their contractor, Conrad Czarnik. Last week the contractor brought by the door and lumber, but nothing installed... just sat it in unfinished room. We need this to be completed! I'm not sure if the subcontractors are incompetent or why this is taking so long. It has been a drain on us emotionally. Many of our family and friends believe we are being scammed and that they are using our money to fund other projects. read more

Nelson Landscaping helped us add to our patio wall and around the new pool by incorporating new stone walls that looked very much like what we had installed years ago. They also removed an old retaining wall and replaced it with lawn. It all went very well and looks just like what we had envisioned! We were exceptionally pleased with the repair and finish work done to our pool by Nelson Landscaping. We had a crack alongside the pool and settling of the patio and stairs as a result. Nelson removed the entire patio section, fire-pit, staircase, and coping. New rebar was laid, and the replacement stairs match those on the opposite side of the pool exactly. Not an easy task given their curved design! A HUGE thank you to our lead project manager, Asa Perlman, who was constantly in touch with us either on the job or by phone. When one small area was not to his liking (or ours) he immediately had it redone. Nelson's standards are indeed high. read more

Nelson Landscaping was my first call in 2014 to renovate all of my flower beds. It was a job done beautifully and on budget. Called them again late fall of 2021 to begin planning another renovation and they were quick to come quote the job, recommend plants and shrubs that thrive here in Oklahoma and had a great vision for creating a new bed with beautiful boulders. Install was completed April of this year and it is gorgeous. The quality of the plants, shrubs, materials were top notch. The employees of Nelson were wonderful to work with. Our backyard project is a 3 phased effort. This review is for phase one... new patio. Oops... stuff happens. Demo went well. Framing new patio went well. But when their installer poured the new patio, it did not drain correctly... toward the house. Heartbreaking. Thankfully Nelson Landscaping backed up the mistake. Installer tore out the new patio, reframed, and repoured... correctly this time. Drainage is spot on now. There are two important aspects to writing a review on a company like this. The first is the sales (the person providing the estimate) with the second being the actual work (the workers at your house) Sales person & estimate - Very prompt and courteous when providing an estimate, on my flower bed border, as well as suggested ideas on what they would recommend. This was very important as they have the experience as what is most likely to look great for the house (it's what they do). We discussed the design and it was clear what was suggested would look very nice (I had no idea - it would just be a guess on my part). Workers and installation - A sales person can promise the "moon" but if the work is low quality & low effort then the sales and estimate really mean nothing. The workers that came out were also courteous and friendly. As with any homeowner - I was going to watch the process - I'm paying, I'm watching. In watching the workers trench out the shape of the border then lay mortar for the footing, install the rock and do the finish work I found myself impressed with their work. I would say it was like its own "art form" the way one person would lay the rock and mortar while another person would do the finish work. It was clear this wasn't the first time they had done this and there is quite a skill to doing the work they did. In thinking about this there are two ways people (companies) do work at our houses - the first is doing it as "just a job" - on some occasions this may be fine - the second is doing work, at our houses, with the effort, intensity and attention as if it was their own house. Clearly, we all wish everyone would do it the second way - the Nelson Landscape crew took the time and effort (the way I saw it) installing my border as if it was their own house - they took pride in their work and asked what I thought. These are key words - they actually asked what I thought. They were asking two things. The first being - "what do you think?", meaning, "we are proud of our work" and the second being do "I" as the homeowner have any questions, concerns or suggestions. My experience with Nelson Landscaping was clearly positive. As with any homeowner, If I am paying the "bill", I will be watching the work and express a concern if I have one. The only reason I am willing to provide such a detailed review is because I watched the entire process from beginning to end - sales to completion of work. read more

My dog was lost in the Coffee Creek addition in Edmond and the Nelson Landscaping people who were in Coffee Creek, notice that my dog was not where he should be and called me from the tags he was wearing. I was not at home and could not get him right than, so they took him to my house and put him in his dog pen in my back yard for me. Nelson Landscaping recently completed significant work to our home, including extensive landscaping and the addition of a sun room. We began the process by meeting with Josh - he walked the property with us and listened to our wants and wishes and then used that information to have a very professional drawing prepared for our house and yard. We then met again with Josh and revised the drawing and estimate to fit within our budget - Josh gave us options that were very helpful during the whole process. After we agreed upon a contract the work began under the supervision of Shannon. Shannon checked in regularly and he was always available by telephone if we had questions or concerns. As to the workers who did the many jobs required for the project they were uniformly professional, hard working and pleasant. The end result is a job well done - the lawn, garden beds, sun rooms, and everything else all look great and we are very pleased with the result.
