Does being horribly rude to your customers or ignoring them while you chat on the phone to your friend help you to sell your overpriced clothes? I think not. There are tons of other boutiques on Martha's Vineyard that employ friendly people where you can go to buy preppy pink and green clothing. I encourage you all to go there instead of Nell. read more

The young girls in the shop are cute and helpful and i've noticed they try to stay off their cell phones and limit their "teen" gab. On the other hand. The owner. Horrendous. SAT AT COUNTER telling this customer her life story about working in Fall River back in the day. It was an interesting story but GET OUT OF MY WAY, i'm trying to make a $400 purchase and you're standing there blocking me from the cash register. I politely asked them to move so I could get my wallet out and on the counter for the credit card. Barely moved. Then the sales assistant Lauren was struggling w/a bar code or POS issue. I waited, waited, waited and Lauren apologized. My friend was so put off she left the store. I was so appalled by the owner's lack of unwillingness to even help her bc she was so consumed w/her "life in the factory" babbling story. The whole time standing in MY way while i'm trying to look at the jewelry and perhaps add to the purchase. CLUELESS. I'll come back in September and do my typical sale clean up but I don't recommend this level of ego and nonsense on vacation. read more

2 years in a row we have gone in here and found rude staff who pay no attention to you and are annoyed when you ask for help. There are better stores in Edgartown than in this place. Courtney had a Julia Roberts moment where they work on commission so if you don't look rich they ignore you. AWFUL store. Avoid!!! read more

Have to admit a couple of years ago I gave a very negative review of Nell. The staff was rude, unappreciative of my presence in the store and no one greeted us the entire time we were in the store. After several other failed attempts, I vowed never to enter the store again. Well, had some visitors recently and as we passed by, they wanted to go into the store and although I cringed, I entered. Much to my surprise, there is a new wonderful vibe in the store! Was greeted warmly by the staff and everything was upbeat and friendly. Kari in particular was so engaging and so friendly. She was so helpful getting us appropriate sizes and so knowledgeable about the entire inventory throughout the store. We felt so appreciated and the entire experience was very positive. This is not the Nell of years past that has received negative reviews! If you had a less than pleasant experience in the past I suggest you give it another try! I now highly recommend it and kudos to that sweet Kari- you and your team have really made a difference. read more

New owner is so wonderful! Literally every single person on the team helped me at some point over my three visits to the store. The owner pulled new items that had just arrived for me despite it being a busy wknd day. I have always liked this store's selection but this summer everyone was much nicer and more helpful. read more

Check your receipt! I bought a $45 necklace and a $36 pair or earrings (which the staff member quoted for the set of 3, but then told me it was only for one set of the 3) and I was charged $100.06!!! They don't scan the items, they manually write out the receipt. read more

I purchased a beautiful white Aidan Mattox dress here, too bad when I got home I Google'd it and realized Nordstrom sells it for $60 less... and the folks at Nordstrom are a heck of a lot more polite and helpful. I guess I need to beware the 'boutique' mark-up next time. read more

Wanted a dress at Chace N Lulu, they didn't have it, but they said that I could order it from the sister store called Nell.. So i said okay perfect they took my credit card info shipping and billing.. I received the dress in was thrown in a plastic mailing bag , not even in tissue paper with a written receipt which stated the return policy... When i pulled it out I instantly knew something was wrong it smelled like cigarette smoke... and I am no smoker so I smelled it immediately.. there was no clothing tag on it either... Which leads me to believe they mailed me a worn and returned dress.. I would have taken it to the dry cleaners if I had loved the dress instead of the hassle of returning it, but it was too small... not a normal XS.. So i wrapped it back up better then i received it and mailed it on back... I was so disappointed I loved the dress when i saw and and thought it would have been perfect to wear for my honeymoon... I get back from my honey moon a week later and received a message, nasty message on top of it.. I called back and they said they would not return my dress that it was worn etc.. I was like OMG this is ridiculous i never wore it.. It came that way, I own my own clothing boutique and no a thing or two and would never ever ever do that.. I curse those people that try to take advantage of wearing an expensive dress and trying to return it.. I later explained that there was no way i was keeping the worn,smoky,too tight dress. She said she would mail me another style and I never got that.. they left it on my credit card and i got charged for a too tight, smoky worn dress.. They were rude no idea how they stay in business... read more

My first visit to this store was last year with my friends. The woman behind the counter was taking care of a woman spending alot of money and all the attention was on her. But one of us asked a question and right away we thought unless we are spending some serious cash, we are on our own. You can tell by not what she said, but her tone. Yet, I was there 2 days ago, and the woman behind the counter was very nice and sociable. It was not the same person. I hope they read the reviews because as stated on another review, lots of boutiques there to visit...not just "Nells". read more
