Each and every one of these ladies (teachers and assistants) is a treasure. My son has a gluten sensitivity, and Ms. Gloria went out of her way to bake gluten-free versions of all the baked goods they serve for snacks, and buy gluten-free treats for him to have on celebration days. I feel as though all the staff were very cautious with him and I can't express my gratitude for this enough. I delighted in hearing all about what he was learning. From the different continents, to planets in our solar system, it was all amazing. I can't believe the grasp he already has on phonetics and math. We are sad to be leaving the school, but will always look back on this experience fondly. Thank you for making my little guy's first school experience so exceptional.

Ross Elsmentary School giving an option of 3 playgrounds all within sight of each other. I love this option for bringing my young children to come play on a sunny day. It's literally in the same field as Sir George Simpson Jr. High and has so much to do! There are trails that run all the way to Wild Rose Elementary and Albert Lacombe Elementary but be warned - coyotes do live in the woods here and are seen regularly. The sports field is HUGE with full size soccer fields, ball diamond, outdoor rink for winter fun, and the best open grassy fields and hills to sled on. Grosvenor Outdoor pool connects to this park system on the North edge. My kids never get bored of this playground or park and I know we'll be back a hundred more times! As far as the school goes, my friends that have kids here love it! Robert Rundle has programs supporting kiddos with extra needs and a free hot lunch program this school year as part of a Provincial pilot. I wish my kids were this lucky!

I walk by this beautiful downtown Catholic elementary school often and have always been intrigued…read moreby its portable sign outside, which often displays messages not just in English and French, but also in Spanish. Turns out they provide not only a French Immersion program but a Spanish bilingual program as well - the only one of its kind in the country - to approximately 430 students from kindergarten to grade 6. But being childless - and intending to remain so - it's the building itself that interests me moreso than its current educational offerings. There have been some additions over the years, such as a gym, assembly hall and extra classrooms, but the main building, a lovely brick structure, has been operational since 1915. This neighborhood was once the centre of a thriving French Catholic community but its presence has been reduced to just the school, nearby Eglise Catholique St. Joachim and its rectory, and various place-names that pay tribute to th area's history. The school, like many other institutions around Alberta and beyond, is named for Bishop Vital-Justin Grandin, a pioneer Oblate missionary from France who became bishop of St. Albert in 1871 and passed away in 1902.

We love the playground/park at Albert Lacombe School…read more It's easily one of the best in St. Albert with easy access to the city trails connecting Albert Lacombe to Sir George Simpson, the outdoor Grosvenor Pool, and even all the way down to the Sturgeon River and St. Albert Place (think best farmer's market ever!). The only downside is that the playground is on sand a little below ground level so it can be a bit of a swamp when snow melts in the Spring or if there is a big rain storm. But otherwise you've got soccer fields, baseball field, basketball hoops, swings, and a large play structure to keep the kiddos busy for hours! We love to bring a picnic and a blanket (well, Mom does anyway - ahhh, reading a book in the sunshine while the kids play).
