I think the effort in dollars by the board of trustees and the administration for a high quality…read morefacility is probably there . The doctors and staff were professional and sincere. There was no game playing as far as billing and checking out. The Trauma center appears to be the real deal and on point. The LOCATION at Davis Island cannot be overcome and it an abomination with gridlocked traffic 6 days a week morning & evening. There is a sincere effort to have a security team guarding the hospital and keeping it safe. However, that is only 5 days a week. And on Saturday and Sunday , there's little security team or one tenth of the security , and if there's problems , terrorism or vandalism or gang activity that doesn't happen Monday through Friday , it could happen anytime? I found that disingenuous that the security team wasn't there on the weekends with the same presence. The parking situation , of course , is out of control and the parking decks are managed as well as somebody could possibly try to manage them , but it's still a large can of worms. I have no doubt that the valet parking team of employees means well and tries hard. I personally don't trust anybody to drive the car and park. It because of theft and organized teams of petty criminals. Very difficult for a visitor to come to the hospital. For the first time, enduring the parking garage, the heavy traffic before even getting to the hospital where they then have to check-in by supplying a valid ID after going through security. This is a high stress situation that needs to be explained to the entire security staff and the entire hospital administration. So everybody can continue to work together to make this a good experience considering the hardship. That's upon everyone, the nurses and the doctors are HEROS as they come to work each day. The patient advocates were sincere, polite as helpful as possible and yet it's still an uphill battle. The food served at the hospital was very good and a wide variety and choices for the patients. However there needs to be a specific 15 minutes of grace granted to the PATIENTS so they can eat, breath and relax with their meals uninterrupted. The moment the patients were served , the patients were interrupted constantly without respect shown and the patient ended up eating cold and either melted frozen items or soups and hot meals that would of been good but the experience was turned negative for no reason. The patients NEED the nutrition and positive few minutes and their MEALS should not be interrupted. In closing, there needs to be a extra effort put in for signage , lights and roadway painted arrows on the ground from I -275 to the hospital. Once a person has traveled this numerous times it becomes far easier but for a first timer , it is ab extremely difficult drive to make it to davis island from I-275 , even when trying your hardest. I am sure hundreds of millions of dollars have been poured into the hospital and the effort to make this top notch , but the location is so abysmal it makes it almost impossible to overcome. To all the nurses and doctors, your Patron Saints for being able to endure this on a daily basis. I'd love to see some special effort made by the city & county and State for the doctors & nurses & key staff to have some special Transportation arranged, whether it's by Boat or by special Limousine service every day &seven days a week. Kid Glove transportation service should include every special amenity possible showing appreciation and respect to them. We appreciated the entire staff and team of medical professionals ...in the most stressful time in our lives, but I was unprepared for having to show ID and it made my initial visitation traumatic with having to go back to the parking garage to get an ID with a disability. Yes, I was too proud to take the golf carts and that is on me. Great Hospital, horrible location and sewer system is probably the breaking point whenever there is flooding. Be safe, be sure to take your security seriously and it will help keep your experie nice positive. This hospital handles every conceivable catastrophe and should be given every benefit of the doubt and I tried to keep that in mind with my review. Thanks

The woman at the desk truly seemed to take pleasure in saying it would be months before I could be seen. Honestly, I've never thought that about any medical office but she was sneering and laughing. I told her I'd been in 10/10 psin since Friday night. I'm not a drug seeker ( or I would have gone to an ER). I wanted a consult and possibly a guided steroid shot to stop the pain. Major mean girl vibes. How about offering to have a doctor call me? A nurse? I told her I had no ortho in FL and this issue had been dormant for years. Edited for typos

He was being discharged after being there 4-5 hours and NEVER saw a physician, when the nurse brought the discharged papers he asked was he going to speak with a doctor and was told the doctor had already left. It is their office hours however, was told I had to leave a message which I did for a call back. I am reporting this experience to the insurance company because I'm sure all the charges will be billed under a physician's name, and he never saw one. I understand not seeing one for the CT Scan because you don't see a Radiologist but not an ER Physican, Resident or Intern??? Unacceptable even if they would have come in to at least speak.

I told him I didn't find it funny but everybody's different. 5 mins in the room and the housekeeping employee gets a personal phone call in the bathroom. When it occurred to me that this call was going to last awhile and I was missing a movie I was watching on TV, I ask him to leave. It would be different if he could scrub something and talk at the same time but nada. I'm never asked about nor am I supplied with more than 1 gown. No 'welcome kit'.. meaning no soap to wash with, no wash bin.. its' no biggie as I do have access to soap on the wall and a sink but still... last night, I had my light on to ask for washclothes. I get an angry nurse who was due to go home and I wasn't her patient. Ok, well, that's not my fault but i did apologize. I didn't make her answer the light. Med staff ask about pain... I tell them but I can't get a med until 9pm so I use ice packs to numb body parts all day. Some staff get upset that ice melts. Again, not my problem. Pharmacy refuses to change their opinion of a 9pm med pass (no one knows where that time was birthed); I'm thinking staff needs to take out their frustration on them, not me. I have been very vocal about my fear of needles and my Tourette's of obscenities when I am stuck without a numbing cream. No one believes me and are then shocked to discover I wasn't lying. Nurse wants to stick a needle in my dorsum without lidocaine first? You better get somebody to hold me down. I don't understand why people think I lie. I had the same issue with a nurse in the OR once about 10 years ago. Boy, she was pissed! She got another nurse who used a numbing agent. About 30 years ago while im the military, i had to have an ovarian cyst removed. I'm very upset, my husband explains to the med staff that I don't care about anything but that needle. Took 3 people to hold me down but it worked! Anyway, back to the present, interesting lung doc comes in. Asks me repetitive questions. Staff has to do that to catch you in a lie although that theory doesn't work when I tell them about my needle fear, low pain tolerance and screaming obscenities. So after the repetition, I am questioned about my marital status and if I have given birth to children. I have no idea what these questions have to do with my lungs. Yeah, I told another lung doctor who laughed and said she wasn't around to monitor him. Again, I fail to see the humor. I love South Park, Nate Bargatze, Jamie Foxx, Fortune Feimster... So yeah, I have a good sense of humor but it stops at this miserable excuse of a hospital. Here's an update. Apparently, items like soap are listed on an a-la- cart menu! So nice to tell patients on Day 4... I have an idea! How's about providing said list during admission? Just a thought! The list should probably have gowns, towels and washcloths too. Sonja, I'm in rm 5019. Ill save you calories & tell you not to waste your time coming up here with your fake apologizes. Actions speak louder than words. If you think I'm paying for items on this here menu that I did not order, you are mistaken. And my expectations are based on common sense and working in healthcare myself.
