Academy Allergy Asthma & Sinus - Dr Patterson, a huge fan of the bow tie!

Dr. Patterson is such a knowledgeable dr. He is the first Immunologist who actually cares about my…read morehealth. His staff also knowledgeable and nice. I've also never had a Dr. personally call to check in on me. I highly recommend from an Immunology standpoint, I can't speak on the Allergy part... but im sure he's just as great in that area, too.

I moved to Indiana from Michigan in '98 and quickly suffered sinus infection after sinus infection…read more Like, I would be on back to back courses of meds. After a few years, my doctor suggested I might have allergies so I tried to self-medicate. That worked until a disastrous trip to meet my fiance's extended family ended with me suffering an awful sinus headache from being outside so much. A few weeks later, I was off my meds and at Academy for allergy tests. Unfortunately the first round of tests didn't show much. I was disheartened until I found out that, basically, after the age of 25, we have been exposed to so much that the lower dose in the first round of testing doesn't show much. BUT, if I were to have an extreme allergy, a higher dose would have caused an unwelcome reaction. Reluctantly, I pressed on, paying out of pocket because this went towards my deductible. The second round of testing involved approximately 60 shots, applied on both arms. Thankfully the nurses kept me talking about whatever we talked about. They weren't normal shots, per se, but they did sting. Finally, I had results. I have allergic rhinitis, non-allergic rhinitis and allergies to a few types of grass and mold. After changing my meds and adding some nasal sprays didn't bring about the desired results, the nurse practitioner recommended allergy shots. Oh what a difference! I am on maintenance now (and very well could be for a few years) and, although I take claritin twice a day, use my nasal sprays and take another med, I am at least functional. I can be outside with minimal side effects. Yes, I still feel it if I am outside for a prolonged period of time, but it's an annoyance now, not debilitating. If you think you have allergies, I urge you to seek out the services of an allergist. It is a long process but it is so, so worth it to be relived of the suffering I felt for so many years! (And that includes going on a cruise while covered in arm bumps from the testing!)

I had an MCAS reaction AT the allergist's office...the nurses witnessed the whole thing, and then…read moreDr. Vivian Nanagas proceeded to tell me she doesn't really specialize in MCAS (which isn't what I read on Medifind) and she wanted to start from scratch despite me bringing along ALL of my labs (recent & dating back 8 years) indicating MCAS. She threw them aside and didn't even want to look at them. The amount of frustration, gaslighting, dismissing, and minimizing in the healthcare industry is mind-blowing. To top it off, they had a water leak on a ceiling tile in the bathroom (possible mold?), the nurse reeked of cigarette smoke (which caused my reaction), and when I stepped out to go to the restroom before meeting with Dr. Nanagas (after the nurses witnessed everything) she walked in, looked at my husband and said, "What do you really think is going on here?" (Before even meeting me OR even looking at my labs!!) Yes, my jaw dropped when he told me this later, he was floored. It's frustrating to think this is the "help" I get after waiting months for this appointment. Clearly, we are not a good fit for one another and I won't be referring my health coaching clients to her OR this practice. Honestly, in my opinion, she needs to be fired for that kind of behavior.

We loved Dr. Dan Garcia but since he left the care has gone downhill. My daughter is severely…read moreallergic to milk, which they know because they tested her. Yet when she came in for a check, the doctor gave her an inhaler that contains milk. Thank God I taught her to read all of the paperwork on a new prescription before she takes it, so she did not. If she had inhaled it, she might have died. I called them to alert them and the nurse was very rude and acted like it was not a big deal because it was lactose, not milk protein. I told her, after she continued to talk over me that my daughter was allergic to all milk. No apology, no, "we'll make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else.

My daughter (over 18yrs) went to CENTA about a hearing issue. They did not listen to her at all…read morebut did a standard hearing test and told her to follow up in 3 months. On the follow up visit , I attended her visit. I was shocked to see how the audiologist dismissed my daughter's concerns and told her past tests were normal, and they had nothing else to offer. If hearing is not a physical issue with the ear, then there can be another issue. CENTA (the Center for EAR, Nose, Thoart and Allergies) is supposed to be a certified physician, but no doctor ever looked at my daughter's case and dismissed us. When I pushed the issue, the audiologist told us that we needed to see a Neurologist and would send us a referral. They never followed thru. So disappointed in the care or lack of care we received.

I went to Dr Huntley to get an opinion on my tongue cancer and have a needle biopsy. I had been…read moretreating my cancer naturally for almost 2 years and had lost over 60 lb. His first step was tell me that I needed a feeding tube and although I would have never considered it but he scared the witts out of me and we set the appointment for the feeding tube to be placed. The next appointment I was told how insane I was to attempt natural healing for such a thing as cancer. He told me that if I did not do EXACTLY as HE said that I would be dead within 6 months. He never sat down with me and explained if he did surgery how much of my tongue he would take. I never received copies of any of the reports and/or visits. He continually berated me and said that if I had never had a good vacation that I should spend my money and take a nice vacation before I died instead of wasting it on natural things. I explained to him that if I submitted to his surgery, at only 100 lbs and that I did chemo and radiation at this weight that his curse would come true and I would be dead within 6 months. I explained to him that God did not die place him on the throne, that he had no control over my demise. That I would live, I am still here over 1 1/2 years later. I still have a tumor, it has not metastasized at this point. I had no plans to return to his office and then received a letter stating that he was firing me as a patient. AS IF HE was GOD once again. I explained many times that it was my body and my choice. THIS IS WHY I despise most medical doctors...they believe they know it all and no one else has a brain. Be careful folks, they will kill you if you allow it. I am still on my journey and I call the shots, not some Doctor that thinks he is GOD and talks down to people, telling them they will be dead in 6 months if they do not do what he says. I HAVE BEEN BEGGING FOR MY MEDICAL RECORDS FOR OVER A YEAR AND THEY REFUSE TO SEND THEM TO ME. I am looking into what can be done to them for denying me access to my own records. I had the records faxed to another facility and the font is about a size 3-5 and no one can read them. I would not take my dogs to this facility.
