A wonderful English pub nestled in a beautiful location, the decor is traditional pub but with modern upgrades to the bar, but its the food that's the real winner here. Specials listed on chalkboards around the pub offer alternates to the solid menu, i really wished i could have ordered about 5 appetizers and 6 main's but alas, only one stomach! Prawn cocktail app was traditional English, small prawns in a delicious marie rose sauce with a few slices of granary bread, this was a huge serving, could almost feed two (but there was no way i was sharing!) For mains i went light, grilled salmon with baked potato with seasonal veggies, absolutely cooked to perfection grilled salmon with a decent sized potato with carrots and green beans. Other winners at our table were the Sunday roast, meat and potato pie, ribs and chicken and the southern fried chicken. Great value, clean, and a well diverse menu make The Railway one of my favorite places to visit when i'm in England.

You can always get a really good feed, with food ranging from hearty pasta dishes to Asian favourites like Thai green curry etc. Maybe none of the food is particularly groundbreaking, but it's hard to bear for value for money and me and my wife often come here when we have someone to look after the kids. There's plenty of space and the pricing is very fair for what you get. Only minor quibble might be that the music is sometimes a little on the loud side and I always feel vaguely rushed when that's the case, but like I say: a minor quibble in what is otherwise a very nice little local haunt.

I am actually quite an established Morleyite having worked here in the past so this is a place I know and trust. It's a good team player (in football pun talk). You've got a big beer garden which will be good when the sun comes back from Jupiter. That's always a good starting point. next up, the beer is pretty cheap and that's a sure fire winner. The pub night is great for a laugh though I swear I was robbed referee. it's bent when the game is like that (football pun number a zillion). Whilst waiting for my drink, a severely intoxicated man swayed beside me grinning and nodding in my general direction. I sat down with my G&T feeling a bit uncomfortable, I obviously looked out of place. Then the guy came and sat on the floor next to me and tried to talk to me. I engaged in his conversation as much as I could but most of it was between himself and...um..himself. Fair enough. I thought. He's had too much to drink but he's not swearing or trying it on, just chatting. After he left however, comments I won't repeat on here filled the silence around me, calling the man in question all sorts. One man even said 'If I were 20 years younger I'd kill him'. Right. Ok. So there we were driving around on Sunday looking for somewhere to have "Fathers day" lunch…read more Looking for the usual 2 for 1 or all you can eat for a fiver deals (I'm a bloke from Yorkshire, therefore I'm tight) but to no avail....... then I just remembered this place from my youth and headed over and BINGO! Big chalk board outside said Fathers day lunch £7.50, I conned the wife into going halves (she was fed up of driving round by then) so we went in. We were greeted by friendly bar staff and a more restaurant approach but in a rural pub setting which was a bit odd but good, grabbed a couple of pints of rancid old scrotum or some other cask ale and parked at the table which the waitress helpfully showed us to. The menu had a choice of 4 meals, 5 starters and plenty of puddings (desserts if you're from that London) which were all specials for the day. I chose a steak and ale pie with new spuds etc and the wife a beef dinner with all the trimmings....... service took around 10 minutes so I bought more "Armpit sweat" or "Old bags eyeball juice" or some other beer of some strange name. Believe me when I say it was worth the driving around and having to drink beer with twigs in (I don't have a beard or corduroys or a tank top so I prefer my beer twig free) as I can honestly say it was a genuinely home made pie, in a dish with just a crust on top and filled with half a cow and some fungus pieces (mushrooms of the non magic variety) all swimming in gravy that I believe was made from the tears of an angel. The vegetables were a plenty and in bowls to share between us which gets me on to the wifes choice of roast beef dinner, she said it was the best beef she's ever had and believe me when I say she's had a lot of meat in her lifetime ;) It was melt in the mouth and enough to leave her with a smile on her face and the yorkshire pudding (no that's not the wifes nickname) was fresh made and delicious. So next time you're in the Drig area or even not but want a bally good nosh (sorry I just put my Tim Nice But Dim head on) put BD11 1LJ into your Satnav, you will not be dissapointed.

WOW, were we lucky? This is a nice pub with nice staff but doesn't look anything special. However, the food was just wonderful! Fresh veg, proper home made yorkshire pud and real puddings too. Last week, I had a leaflet posted through my door advertising that they had just re-opened following a re-furb, and that they were also offering a new food menu......so I thought I would give it a try. The re-furb has certainly brightened the place up, and it is now quite a pleasant place to visit. Prior to this, I certainly wouldn't have taken the Missus there, but I wouldn't hesitate now. They have the usual selection of keg product on the bar, but I was impressed with the real ales on hand pump. They have Tetley Cask, and Leeds Pale, which was on top form. They also had a spare hand pump which I was informed they intended to start using for a guest ale. The food menu was interesting and reasonably priced, with a bias towards steaks. I had their Steak & Stilton Pie, which was served with chips and peas. Plenty of steak in the pie and it was really very tasty. Chips were done just how I like them too. Portion size was more than adequate. I noticed that they also had a special on the blackboard......two steak meals and a bottle of Pinot Grigio or Merlot for £20......sounds like great value. All in all, I was quite impressed with what they have done here, and I will certainly be back for another visit soon.

The Queens Hotel is a pub/bed and breakfast that looked big and cosy so i thought I'd give them a try. On entering, I was stared at slightly suspiciously (however, this may have been due to my bright red coat, bright yellow boots, and bright ginger hair) and I did feel a little uncomfortable. It was very quiet, and their were some local men propping up the bar as like in many traditional pubs in Leeds. I felt I had disturbed the peace a little, but it was warm, big and cosy as predicted so I just got on with ordering my coffee. The drink was £1.20 and delicious, (much better than my over milky Morrisons cafe disaster the other day) and it came with one of those straw shaped biscuits with the swirly chocolate inside. Mmm. Perfect and exactly what I needed. The interior of the place was very dated, like most of Moorley, but I found it charming. With thick floral carpets covering the floor and even the base of the bar, it felt warm and cocooned. Pictures and decorative bits and bobs covered the walls and beams which made it feel balanced and inhabited, but not cluttered or too busy. Drinks wise, I noticed that they do a small selection of red and white wines, bottles priced at £8.50 each, a huge selection of spirits around 2.10 a single, and the mainstream beers and bitters on tap. As for the Bed and Breakfast, I haven't stayed here but the website tells me that it is £18 per night per person or £22 pnpp including an evening meal. I have included a photo of the upstairs area for you to see. The kitchen is open Tuesday - Saturday 11am till 2pm and they do a senior citizens lunch deal of £3 between 11am and 12pm.

The reception and function areas are quite grand, but the bedrooms could do with a bit of a revamp. Still, there was a nice view of City Square and the proximity to the train station is obviously a bonus. Mum was in a twin room, which had two quite large single beds and all the amenities you'd expect from a hotel room - TV, coffee and tea making facilities and the bathroom was quite nice too.
