It was suggested to us by friends that we should ride the St. Charles trolley and tour the Garden District while visiting NOLA, but we prefer a more personalized experience. We ended up booking a pedicab tour with Need a Ride and spent three hours getting to know the city of NOLA. Tree picked us up outside of our rental and drove us down to the Garden District. It's very obvious Tree not only loves NOLA, but he also loves its rich history because all along the way, and throughout the tour, he regaled us with historical facts and stories dating all the way back to the first settlers. I'm pretty sure that after today, I can convince any local that I've lived here my entire life. If you have a few hours to kill and want to learn more about NOLA, this is the way to do it! read more

At $2/block, it's best to negotiate your fares before you jump on. It seems that when the driver goes 2 blocks up to get to burgundy so that the trip goes faster, the customer should not be held accountable. So 11 blocks is $22, but the actual route was really 7 blocks. A good way for them to squeeze extra, and then ask for a tip on top. read more

My complaint is the price you are not informed of in advance. We took a cab to this area for $5.75 plus tip. For the Pedicab it cost $20.00 plus tip to return. WARNING: VERY EXPENSIVE! $$$ We paid $20 a couple days ago for a pedicab ride for 2 of us from Capdeville in the Central Business District to our destination: the Fountainbleau room at the Roosevelt Hotel, also in the Central Business District. A Taxi ride would have been way cheaper!!!!!!!!!! We were shocked at the price. It was my first time in New Orleans, and we had a business card for "Need A Ride", along with their phone number, 504-488-6565, which is printed on the card. We found this business card in our Yelp packet and figured it must be a good deal. WRONG!!! This "Need A Ride" company wants your money, and once they get it, you won't get it back. Don't make the mistake we made...we got into the vehicle without being clear on the price. The dispatcher didn't explain the price, and our driver didn't explain it either. Not sure why we handed over the 20 bucks instead of arguing at the end of the ride, but we were just shocked. NONE of the regular taxi rides we took in New Orleans had been as expensive as this pedicab! We also tipped the guy a dollar. The next day, I did call the Need A Ride company and talked to somebody in the management business office. However he was NO HELP at all. He neither apologized nor offered any kind of compensation. I thought maybe he would at least offer us a discount on another ride, or some of the money back, but nope. He told me that there are several different routes between Capdeville and the Fountainbleau room at the Roosevelt Hotel, and he couldn't be sure which route our pedicab driver had taken. He said, depending on the route, we could have been charged LESS than $20, or we could have had to pay MORE than $20. HOLY HECK!!! So...in that case, why didn't our driver take the shorter route and charge us LESS than $20??!! It was our first time in a pedicab, and it didn't occur to us until we were already in the pedicab in traffic that you are NOT very safe when a pedicab drives down the side of a busy street. At one point, the driver of a car came very close to side-swiping the pedicab. The pedicab also had to make an awkward sort of u-turn across a busy street to drop us off by the Fountainbleau room at the Roosevelt hotel. It sure seemed very dangerous to me. )-: Our pedicab driver also kept saying it was his first day. That wasn't very comforting to know. We made a HUGE MISTAKE when we called "Need A Ride". It was very expensive, and cost us way more than a taxicab would have cost. It wasn't a very safe vehicle to be in on a busy street. The Capdeville is a cafe/bar on a street called Capdeville, which is a narrow, quiet street, and that is where the pedicab picked us up. But the Fountainbleau room at the Roosevelt turned out to be on a busier corner. We had no trouble at all with the taxis that we took while in New Orleans. We used taxis a lot in Nola because I have a sore foot and currently have difficulty walking distances on city pavement. The taxi rides were all reasonably priced. If you need a ride, a local will tell you which taxi companies are reliable. United was recommended to us, and they were good, and so were a lot of other taxi companies. If you are a visitor, ask your hotel, or the owner or manager at a restaurant to help you if you need a good taxi. While we were waiting at the Capdeville for our pedicab to arrive, he was also later than the dispatcher had stated. My advice: AVOID taking a pedicab unless you can agree on the price in advance. Also, for your safety, AVOID taking a pedicab if it is necessary for him to ride on the side of a very busy street, or even worse, to make a scary sort of u-turn on a busy street. 0-: I am also surprised that when I called the phone number and complained to the management office, even when I mentioned that I picked up his card in my Yelp packet, for the Yelp event in town...he did not care at all. He wasn't the least bit interested in my dissatisfaction as a customer. It was my first visit to New Orleans, and this was my most disappointing experience. My husband will be returning to New Orleans for a business conference, and he will definitely be recommending regular taxis to his friends and colleagues at the conference. We cannot recommend "Need A Ride" pedicabs. Hmmmm...I just noticed that there are a number of filtered reviews for this business, which complain about the same issue...other customers have also felt that they were overcharged. I had to write this as soon as I got home so I didn't forget to TELL EVERYONE HOW AWESOME these folks are. I am a (somewhat) neurotic tour guide who planned a very special private tour for 5 women from Texas who loved to have fun I called ahead and arranged the pickup! I then had to change the time twice to fit our itinerary. They were SO friendly and kind...It worked out PERFECTLY. The 3 cabs waited patiently for the ladies as they got drinks and chocolates and then entertained them the whole way to the destination (St. Louis #1 Cemetery). We had an amazing time...it was everyone's favorite part of the tour. Not only are these guys PROS, their customer service is just above and beyond wonderful. A pedicabber named Easy E (or maybe it was Ryan?) saved the day. Truly. He loaded up a cooler full o'drinks and other things straight from my car trunk and took me (and a days worth of drinks) right up to the parade route. It was that easy. No headache, no backache. Need a Ride was friendly on the phone and dispatched our requested driver quickly. He arrived at the exact moment the dispatcher reported he'd show. The ride was low-key and fun, and our driver was knowledgeable about the city and good company. He even stayed a bit past his shift's end to ride us past a cemetery, and he was exceedingly patient with my senior father (who moves very slowly and asks a lot of questions). Recommended. My sister and I had landed in NOLA and me with a broken knee wanted to see downtown without having to walk or use one of the animal torture carriages that are sadly prevalent there. wE got Anna to give us a Pedi ride and she was wonderful. We also wanted lunch so she gave us the scenic route ride to a great restaurant and we enjoyed every minute of it. I came to Yelp to post a favorable review and was quite surprised to see negative ones. This evening I had my first experience in a pedicab, and it was delightful. My driver, Robert, had been stopped at a red light on Iberville when I first saw him. Although I had been looking for a "regular" cab, I decided to give a pedicab a try. Since I am a 60 year old woman with cerebral palsy, I wasn't able to spritely jump into the pedicab, even with Robert's patient assistance. He then maneuvered the cab to two different curbs to give me the height needed to get my "bad" leg up into the cab. He asked if I had ridden in pedicabs before and explained to me that pedicabs were more expensive than car taxis. As I watched him pedaling and maneuvering through the cars and pedestrians, it was totally obvious that he deserved to be paid more than a guy driving a car taxi. For those that have complained, do you think you could do the job of a pedicab driver? If it's too hot for you to walk around the French Quarter, imagine how hard it is to pull the weight of one or two adults over the rough roads of the city all day. Need a Ride is the BEST thing to ever happen to New Orleans! Being disabled, they catered to every thing I needed to get from one place to another. I called the number and within 2 minutes, the pedi-cab was at my front door and dropped me off at the door of where I was going. I go to New Orleans often and fighting with vehicle cabs to get a ride somewhere in the quarter was a complete nightmare and made my trips miserable. The staff of Need A Ride are very knowledgeable of where they are going, love to have conversations, give tips for good local places to eat and drink that are not consumed by tourists, but by locals. This is MONTHS after the fact, but my experience with this company on my wedding day November 10, 2018 was nothing short of phenomenal. I hired a pedicab to come all the way out to Mid-City for my wedding second line, because my dad is getting on in years, as is his wife, and they've had some falls as of late; I was worried the second line would be too much for them. The manager of the company (possibly owner? Not sure) came out to do the job himself, because he knew second lines were not smooth events generally (i.e. our police escort didn't show up, and we waited for like, 30 minutes) and he wanted to make sure his employees wouldn't be disgruntled in the event that there was a hold up such as this. My wife and I were in New Orleans recently and after walking all day and in to the night needless to say our feet needed a rest. We stopped in front of Cafe Du' Monde, we considered a regular taxi because we were going a couple of miles back home to The Marigny area but the Pedicabs looked like fun so we asked if they could bring us that far. The driver said no problem and the quoted price was actually cheaper than what a taxi usually cost so we jumped aboard! The driver was so friendly and nice, he talked about the area and things we were passing by, it was such a nice ride and he was definitely the nicest guy we've ever had driving us somewhere! I would give Need a Ride a zero star. Horrible! As a local I do not understand why I was just charged $60 for 3 people to go .09 miles. That is ridiculous and they are taking advantage of people which is extremely sad. Our city is great and having companies such as Need a Ride overcharging our visitors and locals is nuts. We used this service to return (part way) from Jazz Fest. We had walked around a mile and then picked up the pedi-cab. The driver took a long circuitous route to the hotel and then charged us $60.00!
