I booked an appointment, kept getting calls every 4hrs for 24hrs AFTER the time of the appointment saying that the plumber will be late.... the next day he still didn't show up. So I had to book one from a different company that was more reliable. They have no value or appreciation of your time. Complete ripoffs, and cheats. Firstly, they7 don't commit to a time frame for the visit even in an emergency situation. Had our furnace off in the -130C temps. Child and pet at home. Kept us hanging the whole day saying will be there shortly, but no time. Regardless came the next day. Cost us a good over 2k and was out of order again within a month. Called again using the warrenty and again no commitment for time. Cancelled them. Got some one else and was there dot of the time given and fixed . Showed them the bill from Need Plumber, and he freaked out at the con job. NOT TRUST WORTHY or competent in the work. read more

Please don't use this company. I am only one of the many customers that they have cheated. I called Need a Plumber Canada at 1:15 pm on March 21st. The technician Jason arrived at 1:45 pm. He told me that the hot water tank was leaking because it was overheating and they would need to replace the whole tank. I asked for a quote. He said $2,100. He offered no options as to the type of tank we could replace with. While he was getting the new tank, I was talking to a friend of mine whose husband is a plumber. Her husband was shocked at how high the quote was, and didn't recommend the company. I called Need a Plumber's dispatch to ask them to tell the plumber not to pick up the tank and just come collect his tools so we could go with a different company. They called me back to tell me that they weren't able to reach him. Yet it took him another 30+ minutes to come back. When he arrived, I once again attempted to stop the install. Jason stated that I would need to pay 35% of the total cost, $746 (with just $36 being his fee for showing up). He kept insisting that it made no sense to go with a different company because we would be paying  $746 with nothing done. I relented and allowed him to continue. He finished at 3 45. By that time I had 2 different plumbers tell me that he was charging me too much. I asked for a bill broken down into tank, parts and labor. At first he said no. Finally he gave me one. He told me that that he didn't know how much the tank or parts were. However, at one point he quoted me $1700 for the tank. Two different plumbing companies have since quoted the price on that tank as $1200 max before markup, with the usual markup being around 15% (I have a copy of a quote on the tank). At one point during our conversation regarding price, we were standing close to the living room where my children were watching TV. I told Jason that I wanted to move closer to the door so that the children wouldn't be interrupted by our voices. Jason walked to the front door and locked it. The entire time up to this point, while he was in my house, the door had remained unlocked. His locking it made me feel like he was trying to intimidate me or possibly threaten me. He had quoted me $2100 so since I had no money in my account at that time, my partner sent it to me. Jason added GST on, which brought it up to $2200, and my bank account came back with insufficient funds. I explained that my partner would be driving for the next 40 minutes so I couldn't ask for more money. He asked several times if I had cash or a credit card. Then he said that I should ask friends for money. He refused to leave a copy of the bill (I took a photo). I have since learned that the brand of water heater that we have in our house usually lasts much longer then 7 years, and that the repair on our tank should have merely been parts replaced ($30). Even if the tank had needed to be replaced, it should have cost approximately  $500 less then I was charged. read more

We called ARO to fix a leaky faucet. I raced home when my wife texted me - the guy was trying to up-sell 2 water heaters ($4500) and a new faucet ($1000). By the time I got home he had already started to replace the two shut-off valves under the sink ($290) and pulled the faucet apart ($195 for diagnosis). My wife later called to politely inquire re: job/labour rates; when customer service realized she didn't want to book a plumber, they hung up on her. ARO was called to fix a leaky faucet and charged me $500 leaving me with no running water in the kitchen. Awful! read more

Avoid this company! When I called to get a leak fixed for my mother, they promised a time the "technician" would arrive. That time came and went. Calls to the phone number were never answered with the company name, so I think that it's an answering service or this guys wife. The woman claimed that he would arrive as soon as he finished the job he was working on. By late that evening, they rebooked for the next morning. In the meantime my mother had no water. The next morning, the arranged time came and went with no one appearing. This loser never did show up. We eventually called someone else who arrived immediately. Based on the other reviews I've seen here and my experience, this is a plumber to avoid. read more

I waited for a plumber Saturday my window was 1-3. Then at 3 I had to call and they said he's still coming. Then at 5 and then at 7. Then they pushed it to today from 9-11. Then at 11 they said soon it's now 1:00 pm and they have nothing. I am very very disappointed read more

No respect for customers time Not very happy at all with the service I have received from Need a Plumber Just had a new AC installed on June 11 after mine broke down after 20 years of service . This new AC unit does not work properly it keeps freezing up inside my furnace plenum and forming ice on incoming lines up to 2" thick and forming ice on the outside compressor unit. I ask on many occasions to have this problem resolved, Yes will send someone to fix it during an arranged period of time, then I get a call he is falling behind on another job this has been going on for a few weeks now, and when they do send someone to look at the problem they sent a plumber not an AC guy who know nothing on how to fix the problem, oh you will have to call the office to re-schedule another appointment. Today they called (Aug 7) and told me that we need to re-schedule to next week again falling behind on another job. I'm sure when next week rolls around there will be another excuse from them. If I would have known the problems with the service this company supplies I would not have chosen them. Summer will be over and the snow will fall before my AC unit will get fixed if I'm lucky. I will probably have to hire a reputable company to fix this problem since they wont. read more

I'm 81 needed a copper pipe saudered...he gave no estimate and proceeded to start,he then suggested a new line,,and proceeded again with no estamite,,Charged me 2,500.00 less senior discount,,after several calls for manager they offered me 800.oo back and fix the falling pipes,,As this was my whole months income,I pd again and ag and finally same guy came out and offered me the 800,00 plus he said he'd take the 20. from his own pocket to make 1,000. which I requested and we agreed..I asked him to see the money before he fixed the pipe and I never seen him again..He had no intention of returning some of my money in the 1st place..I am having a hard time getting my medication.food utilities etc WORMS read more

I am very disappointed with the service that I got from this company. In fact, I would not even call it service! I waited for a whole day for someone to show up for my 8AM appointment. Had to rebook. Problems with technician. Leak was not fixed. Called to rebook. Asked for 8-10 am appointment. No one showed by 3PM. Had to rebook again. Finally technician showed by. Demanded to see paper invoice. Otherwise would treat it as a new call. Fixed the problem. I complained to management. they stood up for their staff and then offered my 20% off next call. Not going to happen! read more

First the hot water tank broke. They were fast to come to replace it ($1500+$145 valve+ $36.75 service call). Then the kitchen sink faucet did not work. They came again in the evening and diagnosed ($195) and said because of all the dirty things clogging up after shutting and starting the water (while replacing the hot water tank), this faucet broke and needed to be replaced. They had one ($695) in the truck. If we bought the faucet then they would waive $195 fee. Also there were 3 valves of $65. They were not very clear, we thought $65 for all 3 but it was $65 each. By the time of paying, it became $790. Seniors qualified for 10% off but it was $2336 for the day! But after using the faucet, I could see the spout is too short for the kitchen sink, this has caused my arms stretching out to the farther side of the sink and water spilled on that side, too. I have arthritis. This makes my arms hurt and I am very unhappy every time I do the dishes. I've called the company about 20 times and was stood up 3 times. At last, I talked with Richard, supposed the owner. He refused to take that faucet back, just offered more service more charges. I could see this company is fast when selling things but so slow and ineffective resolving problems. I don't want to pay them any more! The same faucet they sold was priced at $130 at Canadian Tires! Last but not least, when replacing the hot water tank, Mitch (technician) broke the draining pipe from the furnace and fixed it by taping around it. We did not realize that until the water leak wet the carpet. Stay away from this company! They over price every thing and do not want to resolve problems for you. read more

Called for an emergency repair, service rep was not friendly, technician came after the arranged appt window, and after he left we discovered that the repair was not done to code. Had to call for a re-do, again service rep was not friendly but arranged for a technician to come that evening, specifically asked for a different technician. Same technician showed up, again after set appt window. Argued with him for 10min that repair was not to code, had to threaten to call manager before he finally redid the repair which only took him 5min. Brutal Service! I called and made an appointment for 6:00 pm to fix a plugged drain on a Sunday. I received several phone calls afterwards indicating that the plumber was running late, but will still keep his/her commitment. At 8:57 pm that night, I received a phone call indicating that the plumber would not be able to make it. An appointment was made the for the Monday for 10:00 am to get the drain fixed. At 11:30 am I gave them a call to find out if the plumber was coming. I got the same answer that I did the day before. I called again at 1:13 pm to inquire if the plumber was going to show up. The lady on the phone said that she would check with him and call me back in 30 minutes. I never received that phone call. Around 2:00 pm, I cancelled my appointment with them and made an appointment with another plumber. read more

Zero Respect for anyone's time 2 Different Days, 2 appointments, 10.5 hours of waiting, still not fixed. They are happy to take appoinments. But have 0 follow through, and no appreciation for anyones time. I booked Sunday for an arrival betwwen 1-3pm. They called a few times over 5 hours before saying they won't make it today. We rebooked Monday 12-1pm. After I made a call every hour after 1pm, they said each hour - 1pm: He will be there within the hour - 2pm: He is on his way - 3pm: He is still stuck on the job - 4:35pm: He is still on the job, He will be there later.. 10.5 hours waiting, and still not fixed, and still have to wait more. Nothing like booking time off work. I told them I waited to long, it's crazy. Their exact response "I wasn't here yesterday so I don't know. I'll take care of cancelling him for you, good bye, ("click"). She dumped me off with 1 line. Total lack of respect. Garbage people work here. If thats not giving a shit I don't know what is. They are will tell you what you want to hear, but it ends at that. I wouldn't recommend for anyone who has a life. read more

I called Badger Plumbing in Onoway, AB, but that redirected me to Need-A-Plumber through a dispatcher in Calgary. The dispatcher said the "technician" would arrive within two hours, but no one appeared. The dispatcher then booked for my next available day, but again I waited all day. When the "technician" did arrive, he pulled out the failing sewer pump, and then quoted me an outrageous price of $1200.00 to replace the pump. Since an adequate pump would cost around $200.00, and allowing for a couple of hours of labour at most, I expected the cost to be under $500.00, but when I declined the $1200.00 offer, the "technician" said that if I was going to "go the cheap route" he would have to "bundle the costs" and would not give a guarantee or the seniors' discount. He then installed a 1/4 hp pump, which retails at Home Depot for under $100.00, and is intended for a basement sump, not a sewer. Because the cord on that pump was short, he put an extension cord down into the sewer tank, which to my mind is very dangerous, and charged a total of $707.18 for a shoddy, inadequate set-up that will require a pump replacement. I phoned the manager in Edmonton, and after a long argument, he suggested that he could refund $125.00. When I asked why I didn't get an itemized list of the costs, rather than the "bundled" invoice, he said it was because customers often complained that the labour costs were exorbitant, so they just gave a lump sum invoice. I suggested that $125.00 would not cover the cost of replacing the pump, so he said he would see what he could arrange, and would call me back. Needless to say, he did not call, and is not responding to my calls. It seems to me that the modus operandi of Need-A-Plumber is to try to up-sell or quote an exorbitant price after they have rendered the problem in question to a useless stage, and then to do a cheap and totally inadequate job for a highly inflated price. read more

Called ARO to fix the bathroom sink which was not running, its a 15 ft run of 1/2 inch pex from the mechanical room to the bathroom sink. After suggesting I have two valves to isolate the sink installed at 100 dollars each (they cost 15 dollars at home depot) I said no, turn off the main water. First upsell. Second was replacing the faucet which would run me anywhere from 300-400 dollars, second upsell. We agreed the pex may be frozen within the wall above the sink, 36 dollars for the service call, 90 dollars once dry wall was touched, and then cost of material. The technician was there for two hours, this included running to the truck and back, a total of two hours. The cost to run 12 combined ft of 1/2 pex, cut a 5 ft strip out of my drywall, and push an ikea vanity out of the bathroom ran me 983 dollars. I was left with a butchered bathroom wall, drywall all over the floor, plastic from inside the wall, and a bill that would set me back a few months. I called other plumbing companies in Edmonton to explain my situation, hoping this was the norm, and was sickened when the bill ARO handed me was laughed at by other contractors. Not once was this price communicated to me throughout the process, in my wildest dreams I couldn't stumble upon 1000 dollars for a two hour job that required 100 dollars of combined material. Ive been calling ARO for the past 3 days to dispute this invoice, it is also the 3rd day in a row I've been told "my name and number have been passed onto management and they will call shortly". This company has no regard for peoples money, or time, they will upsell you any chance they get and leave you completely in the dark with their billing process and costs until they are done and stick you with the bill. The experience with this business is far worse than any other experience I have EVER had with ANY other business. The repairman, Richard, was rushed and very inconsiderate. He was also 50 min late. Minutes after he left, our water heater quit working (due to a rushed installation by the repairman), and we had to restart it ourselves. The ad from the yellow pages was entirely deceiving as almost every point was incorrect (friendly dispatchers, prompt service, etc.) Awful experience worthy of 0 stars. read more

Very scabby company will not say flat price for standard replacements such as hot water tank. Service call out fee is so low that once "technician" lol arrives will try to up sell or say more work is needed than actually required. A simple fix on a 6-8 year old hot water tank that is perfectly fine and they will end up scaring people into buying a new hot water tank that is unnecessary. They will also try to look around for plumbing issues that are not really "issues" bad plumbing practices in general! read more

We waited 24hrs during -30(WC) temps for someone to show up. never called to explain. Did some diagnosis and changed out the wall thermostat on speculation. Didn't fix the problem. finally said i needed a complete electronic overhaul or a new furnace which they could amazingly change out the next day.Bill was $460 with $295 for an $80 thermostat. Left the house with our high end wireless thermostat and had to call him to return it. had another technician in and fixed the furnace with a replacement of a $59 HI LIMIT switch. It took 2 weeks trying to contact a manger. He never returned a call unless I phoned the company. Wanted a refund on the installed thermostat as it had nothing to do with the problem\fix. Diagnostic was carried out on original thermostat with no problems. Finally relented to a $125 refund. Untrained technician and profit oriented management. Do not let these people in your house! read more
