I've been to Spenler Tire twice and have been treated with nothing but respect, kindness, and understanding that motor vehicles are not my forte. But if that's no enough for you, I can personally attest to this man truly being a genuinely caring individual who actually wants to help his customers. Raffy will solve your vehicle problems in a way that will make you feel very glad you met him, and really smart you chose his shop out of the dozen or so good ones in Iowa City. He's completely honest and open about your issues and what it will take to fix them, and the price he will charge you is verifiably fair. He works fast, his repairs are accurate, and if you're a DIY'er who normally does your own work, he will take the time to educate you and show you what you missed, and how to do it better the next time. And on top of all that, Raffy is seriously a nice man who will treat you with kindness and respect, while doing his very best to get you back on the road. I would highly recommend you make his shop your first and only choice for any and all automotive repairs, whether you live in Iowa City Iowa, Fort Worth Texas, or anywhere else in between. Police intervention was required…read more I had an extremely upsetting experience at #1 Auto Repair while traveling from out of town with my 9-year-old son. I got a flat tire and went to the nearest repair shop, as I have run-flat tires. After agreeing to a price for four tires, I left the shop and spoke with family, who thought the price seemed very high. I later contacted two other area businesses, and they quoted $800 less for the same tires and a fully completed job. When I asked the owner, Raffy, if I had been accidentally charged for the wrong tires, he shouted, used profanity in front of my child, called me "you people," and threatened that he knew where I lived. My son was traumatized -- he had never seen anyone speak to me like that. He also refused to release my car unless I paid in cash, despite advertising credit cards, Venmo, and other payment options, so I had to call the police. I was initially refunded the full amount by my credit card company after questioning the fees. However, I ended up paying the shop directly because of a small claims dispute. In court, it was confirmed that the hazardous materials and shop supply fees he charged were not actually used or standard practice, and he had to refund those fees to me. Many other reviews report similar behavior overcharging, shouting, and blaming the customer.

I would definitely chose a different spot for your window tinting needs! You won't get any warm feeling about this place. Update: Just arrived at a different business that does tint and they pointed out where it's peeling on the corner and the tints don't match. I am so unhappy with Auto toyz I would honestly stay far far away from this place.

I pulled over to the…read moreside of the road and attempted to get the spare tire out but I was unable to release it from the undercarriage of the car. It seemed stuck. I saw that BJ's Towing Service was a short distance away so I decided to call them for help as a last resort. (I do not have a lot of money on me typically. I do live pay check to pay check. I was a little anxious even calling them. In the past, at such a short distance, I've paid around $60 or so for towing services. I had $125 in my account at that time.) I thought they could possibly get my tire down and put it on for me or at least get me off the side of the road. When the tow person arrived, there was NO attempt to change my tire. Didn't even look at it or try. He just hauled my car away to the shop. No special, out of the ordinary care was given to my vehicle. I watched as it was hooked up and secured. The shop was about 12 miles away according to my cell phone. Quite a bit of time passed as I waited in the tire shop (which is apparently a separate business from the towing company.) The guy came back and gave me a bill for $247.50. I just about fell over backwards. I told the guy I didn't have that much on me. I could give him the $120 that I did have. He seemed annoyed and said he'd have to go talk to his boss. That they don't do payment plans. After some time he came back. They decided if I left my debit card information and my personal information and promised to pay the balance as soon as I could get it back into my account they would let me have my car back. I hadn't even figured out what I was doing about my tire, yet. I said this to the guy. He basically said that was not his problem, that was the other business that is there that handles that problem. I was thinking, "great." Now I owe money to the tow people and I still haven't got my car back AND I'm broke. All I really wanted was my spare put on my car. By the way, the tow guy told me he would have charged me double if he had put my tire on for me. He also went on to say that "My boss isn't trying to get rich. He's just trying to help people." Two words... Price Gouging Regardless of whatever fees extra they charged, they still charged me $100 for the mileage alone. According to my research, the average is $2.50 to $7.00 per mile. The greater amount usually being charged to big companies, like trucking companies. $100 divided by 12 miles equals $8.33 per mile charged. In addition to the other $125 Towing Charge and an additional fee of $22.50 for taxes, I assume. Thank you BJ's Towing for making a really bad day even worse. It was all I could do to leave that place with a little dignity by putting my sunglasses on before anyone could see me tearing up out of frustration. (Thankfully, the tire shop waived the fee for putting my donut on my car. The tow company wasn't too concerned about my tire or how that was getting paid for.) Also, my spare was good. The guy wouldn't change it because it was on a Corvette. Corvette's have a low carriage. He wouldn't even mess with it.
