I needed a 1 week turnaround to get permits before the contractor went on a short vacation and to submit plans for HOA approval. Colin Smith and his colleague, Ian Hurlburt delivered big time. Sure it helped that I had a draft plan ready & selected a contractor with a detailed estimate. But that doesn't take from the fact that these guys did a brilliant job. This entire project - from realtor, mortgage broker, lawyers & bank - was plagued by unbelievable incompetence. Colin Smith saved the day for my first Boston real estate experience. They maximized the small space I had available to use. Their office is right next to the building department and he is well known in town. He knew the building department, zoning bylaws and how to navigate the process. He helped shepherd the project through the Historic District hearing and Zoning Board hearing. Unlike the other reviewer, who clearly was a mad neighbor and did not use his service, the house she referred to was 15,000sq/ft, not 9,000. It seems she is the one who does not have a good sense of size! This is Lexington, expect over sized houses!

We are grateful for Schneidee's guidance through the design phase, recommending so much we would never have thought of ourselves, and generally being sure the new space would work for us. David designed and supervised our house renovation. The scope of renovation was building an…read moreadditional garage bay, new screened porch and deck, laundry room, extending existing family room and kitchen and renovating all bathrooms and the kitchen. Our challenges included transforming a standard traditional house into contemporary style home. A few architects that we interviewed had no idea how to approach the project. David drew us a picture of our new house in the first meeting in 10 minutes. Then he took the house measurements, entered them into an architectural software and produced a computer design of our house renovation. At any stage of the design we were able to see the pictures of the new design or get into 3D viewer and "walk" around the house trying on the new spaces. David helped us to find the right GC. David guided us through the entire construction process, helped managing the billing schedule and controlling the budget. David introduced and designed many interesting details in the house: the new stairs, kitchen, fireplaces, front entrance, doors, windows, trim. He paid attention to every little detail and worked on it. He designed and implemented innovative lighting ideas in the house. David explained all his ideas to the contractors while he was overseeing the construction, frequently visiting the site. He detailed the tile layouts and the plumbing fixtures locations to agree with the layout. David found a kitchen maker who made our challenging kitchen exceptionally well. David always knew the best materials for the task and where to find them for the best price. He is a very professional, knowledgable designer. He is very efficient to resolve any problem or find a competent professional who can do that. We have now our dream house that has a lot of light and space. We are convinced that our house would never be that great without David's work.

We hired Light House to design a beach house for us. We thought we knew what we wanted, but David…read moredesigned a house that we would have never thought of that we adore. He has more ideas in one minute than most people have in their lifetime! But he is also very practical and budget-oriented, and continually suggested alternate materials or methods that would get the same effect for less money. He also designed all the furniture and lighting, even the pool. I can't imagine ever leaving this house- it's actually hard to go on vacation now, because we miss all the custom touches. We just can't say enough.
