And once you've accomplished that, there's something even more satisfying in recycling the things in which it was packed. Cary's recycling center will take nearly everything: cardboard, books, glass, plastic, tin, aluminum, pots, pans, even furniture and yard waste, but not plastic bags. There are a few restrictions though, so check the city's website to be sure. Offloading an old computer, or any other electronics, will cost you a few dollars, but otherwise, there is no fee. As I enter the gate, a friendly employee will stop and ask what I'm dropping off, then direct me to the appropriate bins. Sometimes, late in the afternoon, it's difficult to find a spot in any of the three or so containers for cardboard boxes, but at least I know there are others making use of this resource. It may sound odd for an outdoor recycling center, but this location is kept pretty clean by both the City and the residents who drop things off which makes it even easier to keep coming back.

Last week I saw a woman struggling with a mattress and not one employee render assistance. They push the buttons on the compactors one in a while but what jobs do they actually do? The site on Ole Smithfield has good employees at the household chemical area but that's it. You could have one person help direct people for the rare instance that they do not know where to put trash. It's about time Wake county starting saving money instead of wasting it.

They spend the day at the landfill and nights at Jordan Lake. Bald Eagles were traveling from Jordan Lake with them. The landfill is an amazing place that keeps us healthy from diseases while doing what it can to protect the environment. A lot of thought and technology goes into it. The landfill has a liner system; the groundwater is monitored; the gas is being monitored by the current flare system and will soon be reused. Dominion Energy is building a site to use the methane gas released to provide renewable energy. Then there is a system for the leachate to remove the bad stuff and dehydrate it and filter the water. Besides the landfill, it is also a convenience center, multi-material recycling facility and also a household hazardous waste facility. This landfill handles the waste for over 1.1 million people in Wake County. The landfill is expected to be full by 2040 and there is no future facility set up yet. But a big problem is 65% of the material is the landfill could have been composted or recycled. So if we were doing more the landfill would not be filling so fast.

The woman on the phone started asking a series of questions about "paperwork," who I worked for, and whether I was a mechanic shop instead of simply answering a basic pricing inquiry. A few minutes later, my father called and asked to speak with a manager. Despite previously being told that a price could be given with the serial number, the manager spoke very quickly, in a confusing and roundabout manner, and continued treating my father like he was doing something wrong simply for asking about pricing. At most other scrap yards or catalytic converter buyers, you can provide the serial number or send photos by text or email and receive a general price estimate. That's standard practice in the industry. Instead, we were essentially told we would need to drive all the way there just to inquire about value, only to be casually told it might be worth around $100. This is not how professional businesses treat potential customers. The communication was dismissive, unhelpful, and unnecessarily suspicious. I would strongly recommend other sellers call around before dealing with this company.

I can't even begin to tell you how joyful it was. Nowadays, everyone seems to be working on a very short fuse and finding anyone that is kind and patient is getting harder and harder. Dennis was just such a person. I am getting ready to move to Burlington (cue sad music now) and as I am slowly going insane with packing, I am finding more & more broken electronics that honestly have me wondering if I need to contact that TV show Hoarders. For real. I have a 42" TV, a 20" monitor, 2 computer keyboards, an old wifi router, a broken wii, a broken Hello Kitty alarm clock (don't diss the Kitty!) and an entire shopping bag filled with various plugs and cords. I wanted to take this to a recycling center myself however I have a fondness for compact cars & the TV just wouldn't fit. I didn't want to just dump the TV because I care about where I live & I know that TVs have a lot of toxic parts to them. I went online to get some advice (thank you Nextdoor) and was told about Anything with a Plug. I went online to visit their site & wow. It was SUPER easy to make the appointment & to prepay online with zero issue. They have a form to fill out but only if you need to declare what you are recycling. I found this out after I'd filled it all in. No worries, had a laugh with Dennis about it. I made the appointment via a phone call & all of this, chatting with a caring business owner, paying online, and the truckload of junk....all of this is costing me the low cost of $40. Yep. You heard me right. Dennis is coming by to pick all of this stuff up from my home....for $40. Y'all...if you have ever read any of my reviews you know that I will jump up and down trying to get anyone to listen & use a good local service. Well....here I am, got my jumpin' shoes on. If you have ANY electronics that need to go to recycling, why not take them to Dennis. Or, if you are like me, and hail to the compact car, give him a call! Give him your business! This is one of the good guys.

This lady is a scam artist. She posted items for FREE on marketplace saying "take anything you…read morewant" then threatened us to either drop the items back off or pay her for the junk. If we refused she said she would file a police report. We talked to our lawyer and they said while she doesn't really have a leg to stand on, she could drag this out and make a big stink about it if she wanted to. She seemed to be the type of person that manipulates people so she can get her way. We are a hour away so it really hurt us to drag the truck and trailer there and back twice. I tried to show her that our time and travels adds up to way more than she thinks we "stole" but she freaked out and threatened us again. We eventually just dropped the crap back off and called it a loss. I'm sure she is smug thinking she really showed us but we just didn't want to waste any more time or money on her drama. I'll never do business with her and I will forever tell people to stay far away from her!

I quickly heard from her with a very-reasonable estimate and time frame, and I scheduled an appointment. As can happen, she had a last-minute problem and wasn't able to come when expected. This is when Megan's professionalism was at its best! She made sure I was taken care of, and I could tell she was concerned that she'd let me down (she hadn't!). When she arrived with a colleague, they quickly took my junk, then looked at my table. I was relieved when she told me that she had a friend who redid old furniture and she would pass it to her. I really wanted my 1940s table to live on, and Megan made sure of that. I absolutely plan to hire Megan again . . . as soon as I get around to cleaning my garage!

You put your food waste (and paper waste) in there, instead of the trash. You put it on your porch the next week, and they replace it with a new bin. Once you've earned some soil, you get that in return for your efforts. Which, frankly, are laughably minimal. The lid takes some finesse and getting used to, but it's easy once you have the hang of it. CompostNow works with a large-scale family-run composting facility here in NC, so you can compost a whole slew of things you couldn't do in a home bin/heap (meat, oils, bones, dairy, citrus peels, "compostable" cups and forks, etc.). Between food and candy-making, we've diverted 1-2 bags of trash a week for a 3-person household. $25/month for weekly pick-up. You can request an additional bin if you have more waste than a single bin's worth. The folks who run it are friendly, passionate, and extremely knowledgeable. What more reason do you need? Maybe this: the EPA estimates that 27% of all solid waste could be composted. Almost a third less junk going into your local landfill. If you recycle, that's even more junk being diverted. Easy choice.

They have also mistakenly left taped notes on my garbage cans that were not intended for me, threatening to cut off service, when my payments are up to date. They make a lot of mistakes but the worst one is not emptying the fill trash can. With all the options for trash pick up in Wake County, this company does a mediocre job Very disappointed. Next billing cycle I will switch to one of the many other options.

Isn't that why I paid to store my vehicle there, behind a gate that requires a code for acccess? For SECURITY purposes?? Beware that they clearly state that non-approved vehicles/persons can "tailgate in" behind another vehicle to access the property and access YOUR belongings illegally. They state they are not monitoring this activity, despite the massive security camera presence. This issue could have been alleviated had they simply asked for a photo ID of the tow truck driver claiming to be ME!!! Or calling ME (who pays the monthly storage fee) to verify I was having said vehicle towed away. But no! It never happened. "Please understand this, the tow truck company could have tailgated in, took the vehicle and tailgated out, this is something I would have had no control of, after speaking to your brother last night I feel that one way or another the Blue Cadillac was being towed off our property yesterday with or without my knowledge. One last thing, the towing company did not need our assistance, they knew exactly where to go to, which car to pick up and tow away, also they knew where to take the vehicle." They had everything you could think of...antiques, furniture, clothes, vintage books, artwork, etc. My understanding was that the sale is only on the third Saturday of the month (10:00 AM - 1:00 PM). So call ahead to make sure you have the right Saturday. I got a really nice full length mirror on a stand for $10.00 I've been looking for one forever. Most everything is really cheap...like $1.00. For bigger items they'll price them for you. You can use cash, Venmo, Zelle, or CashApp to pay. Everything is pretty dusty and dirty, it is a garage after all...so I'd recommend wearing some disposable gloves especially if you're going to sift through clothes or old books.
