NBM is very slow to respond and lack basic communication -- they rarely reply to emails, never answer the phone or reply to voicemail. If you visit them in person they will make excuses and tell you they're not around. The whole time I've felt as though I've been project managing them and going round in circles as they kept asking for paperwork I'd already sent them and make me feel as though they were missing things or making mistakes, which didn't fill me with confidence! As someone who was new to selling, I'd advise that they should be avoided at all costs! read more

Poor service followed by the most unprofessional personal attack by Mr Broadhead. The initial issue was mostly caused by a lack of phone coverage/voicemail at NBM which on the day of intended exchange meant that myself, two estate agents, and two solicitors couldn't reach Mr Broadhead to arrange release of contracts. Worse though was that when I managed to reach Mr Broadhead (by going through the new client phone line and asking someone in sales to get a message to him to ask him to call me), he launched into a tirade against me, calling me pathetic. When I questioned this with him he said I was free to select another solicitor, knowing full well that I had no such option without adding six weeks and a lot of expense to the process. To add insult to injury, the complaint I sent in to NBM Law was not fully considered by the firm, it's clear to me that they are closing ranks to protect Mr Broadhead. They are cheap, so the lack of a decent service may fall into the "you get what you pay for" category, but there is no excuse for such abusive unprofessional behaviour to anyone, let alone a paying client. Ive just had to dismiss NBM. I don't understand why YELP doesn't include the 6 pages of negative reviews, and allows just 4 actual "positive" reviews to rate the company generally. I made the mistake of contacting them from this high average rating, whereas if you read a little further (read the "non recommended" reviews) you get a clearer picture. My experience with NBM has been terrible. Slow, unprofessional and in 4 months, neither the buyers solicitor, my agent OR I, have managed to get them on the phone to talk to them. They have crossed the line today by suggesting something they have done that has turned out to be untrue. They have delayed exchange by non communication, and we are a month beyond what we had hoped. I will not waste my time further by writing more, as I am getting advice from the Law Society about action I am able to take. I have today switched to another solicitor. read more

I used nbm a number of years ago but used in 2013. They might be cheaper but they are very slow and don't respond to messages and when they do they are quite abrupt. Pay a little extra and use another firm. I am stuck with them. They were so slow to request searches. Even the mortgage came through before nbm was ready ! Please do not use NBM, stick to a local firm but read the reviews yourself before you decide. This firm isn't very good at customer service and how they treat their clients. They really do think they are doing you a favour. Before you try using them just try ringing them. The sales team answer straightaway but once you sign up you have no chance. Just try it yourself. I wish the SRA would do something but depends if we complain. I will once I am finished with NBM. read more

NBM should be ashamed of the appalling service they provide. They jeopardised the sale of my property on more than one occasion. In the month preceding the sale I had to phone them almost every day to get them to do any work on my file. They sat on correspondence for over a month and always sent incomplete responses so the buyer's solicitor had to resort to sending them idiot proof letters which NBM again took ages to respond to. NBM also often refused to communicate by email to speed things up despite imminent deadlines and they regularly lied about when documents were sent or received. Because of NBM's delays I had to hand-deliver some documents otherwise deadlines would be missed and the sale would fall through. It was only because I took the initiative that the sale actually went ahead; NBM couldn't care less about deadlines. The staff were also rude and have awful attitudes towards customers. I formally complained about the behaviour of one member of staff and I didn't even get the courtesy of an acknowledgement. NBM also discourage customers from complaining by stating in their t&cs that all work on the customer's file will be put on hold pending an investigation into the complaint. So in other words, if you actually want to buy/sell a property, don't complain! read more

If you are looking for a company that only ever contacts you via email, takes 6 months to complete, seems unable to communicate with any party involved, couldn't careless about your situation, hardy ever answers the phone and when they do, you only ever speak to a jumped up PA who speaks to you like they are doing you a favour (as you have clearly inconvenienced them) at best and at worst are bloody rude. (The comment 'I apologize what more do you want!' Still sticks in my head, How about some respect!) Next thing, they didn't inform me on the day that We had exchanged contracts and picked a day out of thin air to complete not asking me if that was suitable! They dealt with our purchase of a property last year only to find out that they did not follow instructions on our registration documents for property. This is now causing issues with other legal matters between my partner and his previous marriage as the current documents do not reflect our percentage shares. NBM Solicitors (Nigel Broadhead Mynard, Chelmsford) decided to fix this problem but this will still not resolved our current situation because a whole conveyancing team decided to not pay attention to details. There have been no apology!!! Secondly, poor communication!! The sales team selection option on the phone always pick up but you can never get through to any team via phone. They won't even return your messages you leave on the answering machine. Emails are just as frustrating because they take forever to respond after so many reminders. nbm solicitors are a conveyancing firm dealing with multiple clients and are in a mass market business, do not expect personal service and as i found out not quick to look after your interest. even after i pointed out their failings they did not do any kind of recoery work for their own client. avoid if possible. read more

I used this company in January 2015. I bought a flat and completion was in May 2015. It went quite smoothly until I paid my fees. After completion I had problems with the service charge for a previous year but because I was not responsible for that payment I contacted nbmlaw, since in my contract it clearly stated that they would have helped me out if any issue came up with the retention account. I sent one email in November 2015, to which they replied "we will get back to you". I sent another reminder on the 7th of January but up to today, 20th of January, I had no reply at all. I guess after they receive the money they don't really care anymore. I have called the operator because I wanted the contact details of the person dealing with complaints but I had to leave a message, because nobody picked up the phone. And guess what? Nobody has come back to me as yet. And I doubt they will. So, a review on here will have to do, for now! I have posted this very same review on trustpilot but they didn't like it so they have reported me as a fake client and they never bothered looking into it. They have probably forgotten that I have emails, letters and a final bill which I am sharing with Trustpilot to prove my authenticity. But I have to give them credit. At least they are consistent. Consistently bad, that is. You see, it's the second time I used their service and I really should have learned from the first bad experience I had. We used NBM to do the conveyancing on the purchase of a house. There was nothing proactive in their way of working at all, they needed pushing all the time to do something during the buying process. It then took them 2 months to register the purchase with Land Registry. We exchanged and completed over 6 months ago and we are still waiting on some outstanding queries on the purchase. I instructed them for my conveyance. They will only ask for something when you chase them. I am now 5 weeks in and when I asked how they are doing?, they came back and asked If I'd like them to do the searches. Surely this is one of the 1st things they should do. I asked why they are taking so long, you can buy stuff using a mobile phone these days. I have copied in their reply:"I find your criticisms rather insulting. A solicitor/client relationship is between a professional adviser and his client and has nothing to do with ordering goods online. These solicitors are pretty notoriously bad. Some estate agents I've heard of even refuse to take on a property if the seller says they are using NBM. While my purchase using NBM went through ok (with some significant delays), I wish I had heard about this before. I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

I had used NBM on a previous property purchase and they had done a decent job. However, I was very disappointed with the service this time. They were extremely slow (to the extent that the vendors threatened to pull out of the sale) and did not pick up on points I asked them to raise. Most worryingly, they did not register the purchase properly with the Land Registry and only noticed the issue when I pointed it out. They then failed to rectify the mistake for a year and a half and both the individual working on my purchase and the complaints partner have ignored all correspondence on the issue for over three months. These solicetors are acting on behalf on my house buyers and the sellers at the end of my chain. These have been the cause of my house purchase delays from August to December and still not complete!!! They do not respond to emails or letters, or even ice age faxed requests! They are unbelievably slow and most difficult to deal with. These will be the main cause of a breakdown at the age of 27! Their cost in comparison to my own solicetors was more expensive and for the quality of service delivered is appalling. I would not advise using these atall. read more

We decided to move once accidently finding a property we found on the south coast and decided to relocate, now because of NBM this dream is slipping away.... We Instructed NBM 5th September 2014 Had on going problems with them not returning calls to us and our buyers solicitors. They have lied about paperwork they say they had requested and had not when we contacted our freeholder. our buyers solicitor got in touch with us via the buyer who said they was not returning his calls. We made a formal complaint 5th January 2015 and they replied on the 11th January 2014 - saying they would speak to the team and they are sure things will speed up. They have not addressed one point in our complaint. We then lost our buyer due his mortage offer running out due to our solicitors taking so long to proceed with the relevent paper work. We not have a new buyer and need to complete in 7 weeks and our solicitor is not returning our emails or calls. can only get to speak to his assistant and they constantly say he in a meeting or on the phone. We have found lots of people online who have had problems with this company. Even people not being able to compete or move. Another Person said they are holding funds that was meant to be transferred to him From his house sale. We Have contacted the Legal Ombusman and they have said we need to wait but all they can do is contact them to say we are not happy with their service. We don't know what to do next. The company are rude and unproductive. Spoke to few other solicitors to take over our case but they need our file and we can't get to speak to them to get our file. What can be done? This company are ruining people's lives with one of the biggest purchases people make. Moving is stressful and this company make it so hard. read more

Prior to engaging NBM the head office in Chelmsford advised that capacity would not be an issue, neither would staff annual leave affect my tight schedule for completion. I can report this was not the case. The local team, in Ashby de la Zouche, handling the matter could not even spell simple words correctly! Simple requests were not dealt with in a timely manner, nor were they understood while using all words of less than two syllables. All I heard was empty words and no accompanying action therefore they were dismissed. My replacement conveyancer has done more in 2 days than NMB did in 4 weeks! Enough said. read more

Unfortunately i have the experience of dealing with this company as a buy. I used a very good and professional service, but unfortunately was subject to these unhelpful and slow people as a buyer. Its taken over 4 weeks for a simple question to be answered, which has now delayed our property move twice. To add insult to this they refuse to communicate with either myself, my solicitor and the estate agents. A very frustrating experience all round. The saga still continues. Very unhappy with NBM and the service received. They delayed our move to the point where the chain nearly collapsed. Took constant chasing to do simple things like forwarding a letter from our buyers solicitor. Half way through the process without warning our solicitor took a holiday and nothing got done in his absence. Also never able to speak with the actual solicitor until on moving day when he called about an issue which should have been sorted before exchange. Even after moving they couldn't even write the cheque out correctly for our estate agent which caused further issues. Dreadful company. The sales team were helpful at the time I was getting quotes, which gave me a false impression of the way they work. It was a completely different story once you actually instruct them. I had no chain, it should have been a simple transaction, but lack of communication from NBM law made things extremely difficult the whole way through. They never answered the phone, mailbox full and the responses I did get on the case tracker, were either very vague, inaccurate and in some cases, lies. It seemed they didn't know my case at all, blaming delays on management companies (which didn't exist) and tenants (when the property was vacant). I even had to pay my legal fees direct due to the delay they were causing.... and as expected, I'm still fighting to get this money owed back to me. There was also a delay in getting the money into my account. I almost lost my buyer due to NBM's service... or LACK OF. I'm not sure how they are still in business to be honest. They are very rude and are clearly taking on too much work than they can actually handle. I dealt with James Broadhead team - Emily and Anna. My advice would be Don't do it! I decided to take the Purchase of my property to another solicitor instead and it's completed in a fraction of the time with zero headaches. read more

Wish I had looked at all reviews before going anywhere near this lot... DO NOT USE NBM FOR CONVEYANCING!!! Absolutely useless. They will not respond to a call or email and will never call you back. I am a first time buyer in no chain, as they are moving to a new build, yet it has taken 4 months and we have still not exchanged. I have left 100 voice calls with not a single response, ive never even spoken to my `apparent` solicitor. The on-line system is a good idea, if they answered it. They lie about receiving documents too! The other parties solicitor cannot get in touch, the estate agents cannot get in touch, they will not pick up the phone! I even used a review company to find them and they cant get on touch for me. I have been promised on regular occasions that a director will call me to discuss and this never happens! I even got a direct dial for one of the directors and she does not answer the phone or respond to a voice message left... I dont know what else to do and am now at risk of losing the property. I write this in vein that maybe somewhere there reads these reviews and may help???????? If I can save just 1 person from using these then ill be happy. Save yourself and stay away from NBM! Absolutely Awful, I decided to go ahead with this firm due to the 5* reviews but this was 100% not correct. James Broadhead's team were dealing with my purchase and not once did they call me back, reply to my email or update me; I called at least 2 times everyday and no answer, the voicemail box is full so you cant even leave a message. I paid to apply for searches to find out that a month after receiving the money they still hadn't been applied for. We used these solicitors because they were the cheapest and local to us. We made a big mistake, due to their incompetence it nearly cost us our house move. Our move was going to fall through due to them not sending us letters that they should have and sending us letters saying 'please find enclosed' and there was nothing in there! This pushed our move back and I had to have 2 days off work sorting out all the things they should of. It also cost me nearly £1,000 in indemnities to get it through, if I was looking for a solicitor for a future house move in Chelmsford I'd go with Leonard Grey. Our home purchase is being managed by Ashby- de - la- zouch branch (by the senior partner). No chain purchase on both sides, 4 year old house. Should be an easy one but It has been now 2.5 months since all neccessary documents have been provided to NBM Law from Vendor's solicitor and we are still away from completing. Every single action performed by them has taken much longer than anticipated, following multiple chasing up both by us, vendor's solicitor and the Agency. It took them 2 weeks to apply for the searches, another 2 weeks to get them back. There was another 1 week delay due to them claiming they have not recieved our mortgage offer - which has been sent to them 1.5 months prior. We found out about this not from them but via the Agency. In the process we have discovered NMB Law in communication with Vendor's solicitor have been telling lies to excuse their lateness such as: "it took buyers a while to pay search fees" (1 day), "we haven't recieved mortgage offer' (which they had). Currently we have been waiting for 3 weeks already and the 'report' is still being put together. We call every seond day, but they will not provide any kind of reassurance as to when the process will be complete. We already had to apply for extension on our mortgage, every month is costing additional rent. In their communication via the tracker or via the phone they are either rude or totally indifferent. We are utterly disappointed with NMB Law service and we urge anyone to stay away of this firm. We will be posting an update when (or if) we will finally complete. read more

We dealt with Richard Broadhead and his team in Cheltenham, although we never visited and they served us remotely. Our purchase ran into problems as the sellers had so much debt it was no-longer theirs to sell, and NBM advised we abort the purchase to protect ourselves. Then some months later, while we still looked for a new home, the house came back on as a repossession. Despite performing significant work for us on both attempts and having to race to exchange within 28 days on the second attempt, they only charged us for the extra searches not for the significant extra work. Their fees were already very reasonable as we found them through a national conveyance quote provider. When the banks fleece you for 4 figure 'admin ' fees and charge an extra £400 for a 'valuation' even when you have a separate full structural survey by a chartered surveyor, and estate agents charge 5 figure sum for fees, NBM fees are incredibly good value. For all the work, time, effort, letters and numerous phone calls for impromptu advice all under the flat price cost, there is no justice. There online case tracking system was easy to access and the solicitor invariably replied the same day. In between the two attempts at purchasing, we were charged more from another solicitor for opening a file and sending out a few standard letters in another abortive purchase, than NBM charged in total! I have to say that, after 5 house purchases over 30 years this was by far the best service and value: lets just say that, while I would never stoop to question the honesty of integrity of another reviewer, some of the negative reviews posted on here certainly raised my eyebrows! While I have never had a family solicitor, if I need a solicitor again I will approach Richard at NBM first. My experience was very positive. read more

Absolutely dreadful. Took so long to arrange surveys, reports and paperwork during the purchase of a brand new property (I'm a first time buyer so no chain) that the vendor almost pulled out. Were horrendous to communicate with - couldn't get hold of Richard most of the time and he wasn't particularly communicative or helpful when I did reach him. Still haven't received my deeds or any paperwork and I completed and moved in last summer....sigh. You get what you pay for I guess. Would only recommend if you have a desire for a stress related hernia. I can't give zero stars, so lets say the one star is for the reasonably sweet lady who sometimes answers Richard's phone. read more

Totally terrible company, lost me my buyer as took far too long, like 14 weeks!!, I would NOT touch this company!!

Charged an 'Expedition Fee' even though we were assured we wouldn't be. Emails querying this were not responded to. Just how many of their clients are charged this fee - I wonder if they would care to publish this information? At one point this company had objected to 11 poor reviews, including mine - twice, on another site which were then 'taken down'. The 'Expedition Fee' was never mentioned in our first contact (only appeared when the contract was sent) when we were assured this would be the price with no other charges. Make it quite clear should you wish to deal with this company that no such fee or any variant thereof will be charged. It really is a slap in the face when the process has been going on for months. Another question - do these companies actually instigate any sort of delay to force the 'Expedition Fee'? You would do well to search for a local solicitor with a 'good' reputation and pay a little more to save yourself the headache. You might as well for you'll end up paying the extra anyway. read more

I am an interested party with regard to the extension of leases in a private residential property that comprises 6 flats. I spent a considerable number of years in commercial property management including responsibility for leases and hold both engineering and legal qualifications. NBM was engaged a year ago (Nov 2010) to extend the leases on the flats. For the first 6 months the service appeared to very efficient and praiseworthy at a most comptitive price, until the new leases were sent to the Land Registry (LR) for registration in March of this year. The affected lessees were advised to expect the finalised documents back shortly thereafter. Never happened. The LR, lessees were told, sent the leases back, raising a number of questions. This 'ping pong match' has continued this way throughout the summer, so directly affected parties were told, only after the matter was raised during a residents' AGM in October. That is a very long time without any form of update good comunication is vital to maintain a healthy client relationship and NBM failed in that regard causing at least some disquiet to one owner that wishes to sell in 2012. This does not mean that extending a lease is a straightforward task but, as in other areas of law that are constantly evolving, it does demand specialised knowledge to maximise efficacy for all concerned. Unfortunately, for the affected residents, the matter has been largely overshadowed by the appalling daily conduct of a set of tenants over an 8 month period that has caused considerable distress and anxiety to others, resulting in eviction. It is a sad fact that the law and legal process is heavily weighted in favour of tenants. Notwithstanding that, it is hoped that the lease extensions will be finalised very shortly. read more
