This past summer I took a package tour of Nauticus and the USS Wisconsin BB-64 for the first time with my parents for our annual vacation. We wanted to learn, explore, and have fun, and it did just that. The tour was one of the best tours I have taken. If you want to take an informative hands on one I would do this one. The museum wasn't like regular museums, it was hands on, life size games of battleship, along with recordings, clips, and information all around. To top the museum off we got to go on a retired battleship. There was some stuff roped off, but that didn't take away from it. If you like to be able to see firsthand, where the sailors lived, ate, worked out, lounged, etc., you could on the ship. Not only did we see it, but you got to explore the ship all by yourself, climbing the stairs, and walking the hallways. You were able to go to where the jets are stored on the ship, the ends of each, engine rooms etc. As a tourist the best part was we were able to do it on our own time, ask questions to the volunteers sharing information, we were not in a big group it was just us. To end the tour, they took us out on a tour boat to show us around all their ports for their ship. The tour was two hours long, with a lot of fascinating information, like how many can be in port at a time, which ships served in what battles etc. In general the whole experience at Nauticus in Norfolk was an experience I would take again. It didn't cost that much, for what you got to see and it was definitely worth the 6 hours we spent there. One of the highlights also that I didn't know we would see was the flyovers and the practice runs, by the fighter jets, it just added another level to the time we had there. I would highly recommend to visit this if you want to spend time with your family or not, but also explore a new place. read more
