I really appreciate that NSO (National Statistics Office) offers to delivery your certification requests. You can easily order your birth certificates online and it is a breeze! I've done it many times and even when I needed certificates for CENOMAR.
The website is very easy to navigate. It instructs you to choose from the following: birth certificate, marriage certificate, death certificate, certificate of no marriage, and inquiry. Then, you will be asked the purpose of your certificate request; answers are provided for. Once all questions and fields are completed, indicate the delivery address and how many copies you need. Now, for the payment, there are various payment options but I always choose to pay the amount via Metrobank. After payment, your certificates will be delivered after 3-5 days (depending whether you are in Metro Manila or in Provincial Areas). About the price of this service, it does cost more than falling in line and waiting for your birth certificate. But, the extra cost is worth it. I would always prefer to pay more than fall in line for hours!
However, when the need arises, you can still opt to get your certificates the old-fashioned way by going to the NSO. That is exactly what happened to me. I needed a recently issued NSO Birth Certificate for a Visa application and, due to time constraints, I couldn't do the online request.
So, I arrived at the NSO at around 830AM and there were so many people lined up already just to get a form. In my head, I was already psyching myself for a looong morning at the NSO. So, filled up my form, got my number and headed to the "holding area." Basically, it's a covered court divided by fences. To my surprise, it is all very organized! There are NSO representatives everywhere telling you where to go and what to do. At every step, someone is there to explain what you have to do and what to expect.
Once you are cleared, you are separated to the group which is for "Quick Release" and standard process. Standard processing means you have discrepancies or you chose to do payment first then claim your certificate after 10AM. I was part of the Quick Release group. This meant that we just had to stay in the holding area and just follow the line to pay then wait for the certificates to be released on the spot! True enough, that's what exactly happened! It was painless and fast considering the MASS number of people who were there that morning. In terms of time I had to wait, I lined up at 915AM and I was holding my Birth Certificate by 957AM. That's pretty FAST!
All in all, I would still choose to do the online application. But, seeing how efficient the NSO is in processing requests was amazing (especially for an OC person like myself!). Of course, the only downside is the heat and, well, the people you are with. Yes, they will cut the line, not follow instructions and some did try to pay other people to get their stub numbers. *le sigh* read more
