The National Mall is one of the iconic parks in the US, a true National symbol. Fun and educational, there is so much to do: exercise, visiting the various museums and monuments, paying tribute and celebrating our history, to even demonstrating. This should be on everyone's bucket list. If you are visiting with kids, remember to stop by one of the ranger stations and ask about the Junior Ranger program.

I was here a few months ago and got the most beautiful fall weather. It's a lot of walking but with a tour bus company, I found it much more manageable. I think my favorite spot was the view of the Washington Monument from the Jefferson Memorial. The Lincoln Memorial is under renovation and was the most packed spot.

We were fortunate to have enough energy left at the end of a long day that enabled us to see more than half of the National Mall at an expedited pace. Would like to return to do this at a more leisurely pace and to see it in its entirety.

A must-visit in DC especially in the spring. Right now, they have beautiful tulips during cherry blossom season. It can get a little crowded and super hot, but it's totally worth it. Just look at the picture! Parking is challenging, so I recommend taking the Metro.

I have visited the National Mall several times before but never walked the mall at night before this past weekend. What amazing views we found by moonlight!!! We started our visit by stopping at the Jefferson Memorial which is bit farther than the rest of the mall...sort of behind or in front of the Washington Monument depending on your vantage point. From up in the memorial you will find breathtaking views of DC. We decided to check out the new National World War 1 Memorial next which is also a bit off the National Mall...a few blocks to the left or right depending on your vantage point. This new memorial is well planned. We headed back to the Mall and visited each stop along the mall and then retraced our steps back to the Lincoln Memorial to walk along the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. It is a nighttime stroll everyone might consider taking at least once.

The National Mall. An iconic place to visit some of the most iconic tourist sites in Washington D.C. we visited the Capital, Washington Monument and various museums along the streets. Plenty of historic moments have taken place at the mall. You can get there easily by using the Metro.

I'm happy to see hindreds of thousands of protesters on the National Mall today. This was a huge "Hands Off Rally" with protesters from across the country. The colorful posters, hats & tee shirts are entertaining. I wish all the protesting did some good!

When in Washington, D.C., if you get a clear sunny day, take advantage of it and head out to the National Mall and visit all the wonderful monuments and museums. On the better weather days, we stayed outside and focused on the monuments and everything to explore outside (less of the museums). We were recently in Washington, D.C. over the course of two visits and seven days and went to the National Mall three times. There is absolutely no litter anywhere, the place is spotless, no pan handlers, no homeless, and a high feeling of safety. Grass was also recently replaced in major portions of the Mall and it looks immaculate. A really great experience for families and also quite dog friendly. When we visited, residents were taking advantage of the unseasonably sunny and warm weather with flag football, volleyball, and other cool games on the fields around the Washington Monument. Visiting the Mall at night (after sunset) is also a must and a unique perspective as all the buildings/museums are light as well as all the monuments and Capital that are viewable from The Mall.

The National Mall is waaayyyy better at night. The monuments are all light up and it becomes tranquil in comparison to the day time. For me, it became a time of reflection. Walking between the illuminated Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument under the stars felt surreal. The Reflecting Pool mirrors the lights perfectly. The sounds of the city fade, replaced by the sound of the fountains. I just strolled along and occasionally looked up remembering that the sky is one of the only things all of us for centuries will have in common. The National Mall at night is a must-see. Take a walk after dinner.

I walked 10 miles around the national mall when I visited Washington DC. Most museums offer free admission, but even if you don't explore a museum, you can admire the sublime architecture and gardens that span the mall. Definitely a must-visit spot when in DC.

If you are visiting our Nation's Capital, Washington DC, the best way to explore this beautiful city is by train and walking. In the past I had also rented a bike and that's pretty lovely too. There is so much to see and so many wonderful monuments, museums, memorials, parks. The National Mall has a lot of historic sites and memorials my favorite is the Abraham Lincoln memorial and the views reflecting the Washington's monument over the water. There are no fees to access to this memorials. We enjoyed a beautiful day/night and lovely weather during our walk, I hope you have fun too!

This is one of the best places to visit to know about the different histories and stories that made up America. This time we travelled with kids and the kids loved running around the huge fields visiting museums, monuments etc. You need a whole day to visit different places here. The metro is directly connected as well and you have ability to move around easily without any difficulty. Overall we always loved visiting DC. Will come back for sure and one the highlight here is that you can visit all the museums and monuments for free

If you've seen the 1997 movie entitled 'Titanic," starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet then you can better understand the cost paid by many men to preserve the lives of many women and children on board the vessel that day. The memorial is located at the far end of The Wharf between the marina and U.S. Army post, Fort McNair. A true concrete park, the grounds has benches and when the weather is nice, it is a place for strollers, joggers, dog walkers, and picnic goers. This area also entertains people migrating from the marina and The Wharf. You'll often find locals pass through here as the memorial is adjacent to multiple mid- and high-rise housing units. The area isn't the most pristine, however, it is a great place to hang out during great weather as it is along the waterfront and is slightly shaded by trees. Historical Fact: this isn't the memorial's original location. The statue once stood at the current site of The Kennedy Center in Northwest DC. When The Kennedy Center was constructed in the 60s, the statue was removed and eventually relocated to its current home on the Southwest Waterfront. I believe the memorial is due for another relocation as it doesn't seem fitting in its current spot and is overshadowed by the commercial development on the Southwest Waterfront.

The entrance to the this place to see the views is incredibly tricky to access. The Waldorf took over and shut down the way to access through the building so you'll have to walk around and find the nearly completely hidden from street view entrance. For ease, I have linked the approximate location from Apple Maps below. There is a small historic background museum when you enter following the bag search and this is part of the National Parks stamping service so if you collect those speak with the nice ranger on duty. There are two elevators to travel to get to the top, the first takes you up to see views of the Astoria and the second will show you the rooftop from the Old Post Office Tower.
