The stewarding is friendly and helpful, the bars plentiful and efficient, and there is a good cricket shop. With a capacity of 17,500 (after the new stand was erected) the grounds are certainly not small in stature but it is able to maintain its friendly and welcoming nature which is helped by the many staff and stewards who are on site. Although I'm not the biggest cricket fan around, I have been here several times with my partner and have still always enjoyed the whole experience. It does seem to be particularly exciting when Trent Bridge plays host to Test cricket.

Dating back to 1862, that's over 150 years. Amazing. First-Hand Experience: I've seen them play away from home 3 or 4 times, including twice at Oxford awhile back. Most recently in the late 00s. They are a classic club and I respect them and really want them to do well because they are one of the oldest clubs in the world. However, they don't get the turnouts they deserve, their stadium needs work, their ownership has been spotty, and Forest really dwarfs them in every way. So I give them 4 stars instead of 5. I did always love watching them live though, at the Manor Ground, at the Kassam, and one day, at their own Meadow Lane. They were the original Magpies long before Newcastle United. They play in Black and White like Newcastle and Juve. And Udinese. And stuff. They are the oldest professional league club in the world, in fact. They were in the top division for a long time in the early days, and then again briefly in the later 1900s but not since then. They've spent 30 seasons in the top flight, which is very impressive. They one the FA Cup just once, in 1894. Their highest ever Premier League finish was 3rd. They are literally right across the river from their greatest rival, Nottingham Forest. Hi Kerry.

It is not a review of Notts County FC, who are in fact the team I support, because even I would be pushing it to rate them as 4star! Although we are getting better ;-) The stadium was built when Notts were on the up and up and made it to the top flight of english football in the early 90's. It therefore compares favourably with its counterparts in the lower leagues of english football in terms of its size and its looks. Seating somewhere over 20,000 people when full it is certainly a good size stadium and is an all-seater layout. Access to the ground is fairly easy by train (5 mins walk from station) and by road, with parking available around the ground - yes I know we dont get massive crowds so no worries on the parking front. Facilities are OK here with plenty of food and drink on sale beneath the stands, including beer (although beer is not permitted in the stands). Apart from football the ground has also been recently shared with Nottingham Rugby Club as they found themselves without a ground.

However, if I include every other time I've been to the City Ground (4 or 5 times, including once to watch Oxford play away), it's more like a 4. Because the corners of the ground don't keep the noise in, and it needs a little bit of renovation work. Also the stewards were not particularly friendly to me. Still, lots of good memories. It's red and white and has been around since 1898 which is a long f***ing time. It looks pretty cool from above if a little uneven because of the differing types of stands and stuff. Nottingham had planned to move away so a new stadium could be built for the 2018 World Cup, but Russia won the right to host it instead of England, so now they're staying for awhile. It was used during Euro 96 and saw Croatia win and Portugal win twice. It still has some open corners, and while it's pretty huge it could be prettier and the corners could be filled in and that could improve the atmosphere. But it's right next to a river so it still scores a 4.

When they're on the field and you want them to score a goal, just yell "Run, Forest, Run!" Ha. Ha. Ha. First-Hand Experience: I've seen Nottingham Forest play live in person 8 times (I think? It might be nine) so that qualifies me as a "Forest expert" and not in a Lumberjack sense, but in a footy sense. I'm no "fan" of the team, but I really respect them and their excellent, loud, intense support and their incredible success over the years. Absolutely brilliant club on every level. They deserve to be back in the big time, and the sooner that happens, the better. One of the truly great provincial clubs of the UK, and one of the biggest teams not currently in the Prem, and in fact they haven't been for a long time. Probably only Leeds United are bigger, and have been out for longer... and maybe the Sheffield teams. Derby have been up and down and in and out of the Prem, but Forest? Not since 1999 have they been playing Premier League football, and we miss them. They play in bright red and remind me of a super cute girl I know in Notts called Kerry. They are a rival of both Derby and Leicester and of course Notts Co who haven't been good for a long time. They play directly across the river from Notts Co. They have only won the Prem once, back in 1978, and that was due to Brian Clough, the genius that also won it with Derby. Absolutely amazing for a little club like this to win a trophy like that. But then they only went and shocked the entire world... By winning the European Cup (now the Champions League) in 1979. And though they didn't win the league ever again (you have to win the league to get in it), they were invited back the following year because the holders get to play in it again... and they only went and won it again! And Liverpool were in it too and they still managed to win it, in 1980. So in 3 years, Clough won one Premier League and two Champions Leagues... with NOTTINGHAM FOREST. Let that sink in for a minute. It would be like the current team of Southampton winning the Premier League, then winning the Champions League two years in a row. It's insane. They've also won the FA Cup twice 1898 and 1959, and have won 4 League Cups, all of them under Brian Clough... 78, 79, 89 and 90. So he actually won 7 major honours which is even more amazing... and five in those three magical seasons. They won the European Super Cup in 79 too. Clough was manager for almost 1,000 games and for 18 years, too, which is unprecedented really. He's up there with Alex Ferguson and people like that, he has to be. So in 18 years they only had one manager, and then in the 22 years since then they have changed manager TWENTY THREE times. Insane. Yet they've never had Nigel Clough come in. So even though I like Derby better, I'm going to give this legendary club a big 5 star rating. And dear Yelp, please remove "City Ground" from this listing, it has its own listing.
