Upon entering my family was greeted by two men, one offered to take the food trays we brought to the kitchen, the other directed us to the registry and room with family and guests. Later I walked out to use the bathroom and the gentleman walked up to me and asked "would you like to attach your name to the (glass) food dishes or drop a note in the card box"? He said, most do so the family knows who brought it. I wasn't concerned about the return of glass dish but had not thought about it at all. Very professional, I thought! Being close to the young man that passed we stayed longer than expected. It was over at 7PM and we noticed it was 7:30 when we were greeted by the kind men as we left. The next day at the funeral service the staff was on top of everything. They were organized to perfection, impressive and professional. At the 7th day I was given excuses on why the remains were not ready and the total time to get remains was 12 business days. It seems at this location, they have a book of excuses on why there is a delay. I made plans based upon their date of pickup to book a church and set up burial. When I asked to have death certificates overnighted me, I was given an excuse that the USPS would not deliver the next day so they would not mail to me. Their empathy in dealing with their delay was definitely off putting. Maybe one of the other locations are better and more compassionate.

James and the whole team from Mayes Ward worked with our family through the entire end of life process. From the planning stages into the actual viewing/funeral/burial once my father-in-law passed away, they were right by our sides, providing excellent guidance and support. Their facility on Church Street is modern but tasteful, and provides ample room for even large scale visitations and funerals, such as ours. The staff worked closely with us to take care of all the little things, such as easels for pictures, TV hookups for a slideshow, and water and mints for... well, you can guess how we were feeling after several hours of up close and personal chatting with friends and relatives. My points of reference for end of life services are limited to when my grandparents passed away last year, however when I compare the experiences I cannot help but feel blessed that we were able to work with Mayes Ward-Dobbins for my father-in-law.
