Saw Dr. Mar today with my boyfriend at her Albany location. Succinct, knowledgeable, to-the-point and very thorough yet efficient. Spent the extra time to "cover all the bases" and answer our questions, although she does talk and move quickly. As I'm also in the health care field, I had an easier time understanding her lingo, although my boyfriend (who's a software guy) said "he got lost a few times." I made an appt with Dr. Mar after researching on Yelp and read the positive reviews. Unfortunately, I was unable to experience an office visit with her. I called in October to make the appointment and was told that her appointments were booked a month out. I decided to make the appt anyway and finally the day came. I rushed to my appointment this afternoon soI can be on time, just to wait over 40 minutes. I would have waited longer but I had to be back in the office for a meeting. Dr. Mar is great - I saw her about once a month for almost a year. When I first went in for a diagnosis, I was scared and imagining the worst for my condition. While Dr. Mar couldn't reassure me medically (what doctor wants to make false promises?), she was willing to answer all my questions and concerns about my condition. Sometimes, it was hard to get answers for a question or two, but it just seemed like she was still thinking through and answering my previous question (I had a lot). Dr. Mar has a great bedside manner - she always conducts treatments with a smile and expresses genuine excitement as conditions improve. She takes the time to explain options to you and even looks into finding doctors in other specialties who could be familiar with your condition. She even gets back to you personally - the other week, I stopped by to leave a message about a prescription refill and she personally called me back to follow up with me. Not only did she mention a study that reminded her of me and my condition (she doesn't forget about you after treatment ends), but when I couldn't find the correct phone # of my pharmacy, she simply asked for the cross streets and said she'd take care of it right away - and she did! read more

Dr. Mar is a fantastic doctor. She will take as much time as needed to make sure you get all your questions addressed, she's really nice, really professional, and she knows her stuff! I just found out she's no longer at the Sutter Street building when I called to make an appointment. I think that office only gave her one day a week, so she has moved to a clinic in the East Bay, and I'm considering taking BART all the way to her new office, that's how much I like her! Dr. Mar was not as helpful as I was expecting. Not only did she "diagnose" me with a more serious illness than I have, she scared the crap out of me and led me to believe that if I didn't see another doctor I was going to die or something. So, I asked her for a referral to this doctor that was going to save me, and she did not supply one... So I am confused...I need this other doctor, but I can't get it because I don't have a referral from her. Also, the office staff is completely wack. After 2 years of ignoring a couple dry skin issues, I yelped the best derm I could find and decided to try Dr. Mar. She was very helpful and was able to explain the conditions I had. I'm one of those guys that asks about every little health concern of mine while I'm at the doctor, just so I can soak in as much info as possible (since I don't like to frequent health professionals). Unlike some doctors I've seen, she was more than willing to spend the extra 5 minutes to make sure that was comfortable with her explanations. I've used the topical prescription and lotion that she recommended for 6 months and I've noticed a dramatic difference. Highly recommended! read more

Fixing my funky feet and being a great person is surely enough for 5 stars given how stressed for time and money most young doctors must be today. However, she had a hunch about a spot that most doctors, even her she admitted, might have let go. But no, it was cancerous and caught early enough before it even broke into the epidermis. A good dermatologist is hard to find in San Francisco and I thank the sweet nectar of the gods that Dr. Mar accepts my health insurance. She is really good at making you feel comfortable while explaining what is going on with your funky ass skin and what she is gonna do about it. In some ways I think she should be a gynecologist because she makes you feel so at ease and really most ladies can use that when someone is sticking metal in their hoo-ha. Right, I digress. Dr. Mar is wonderful, it's worth putting up with the sometimes retro-annoying-weird-lagger wait room/staff. She probably should open up her own practice with new staff and a new office, I'm sure all her patients would follow her halfway across the globe. read more

Worst doctor's office EVER. If I could give 0 stars I would. She would only prescribe me 3 months & then she would make me schedule another appointment with her to "make sure everything was ok." Its not like she was prescribing me dangerous medicine like accutane or anything. I've been to dermatologists before and they never made me do this. She just wanted to milk me for more money. When I missed one of my three month check-ups and rescheduled for two weeks later (the soonest appointment she had available) the doctor would not renew my prescription for the two weeks until my appointment!!! Ridiculous!!! So, someone told me that Dr. Tuffanelli would be better. I switched to her and she is even worse. She told me that she would write me year-long prescriptions and fill everything that Dr. Mar had me on. Too bad she screwed up my prescriptions (not the same dosages as before) so then I had to call to fix that. When she finally fixed that, she only wrote the fixed prescription for 1 month. So when my pharmacy called to have her refill this 1 month prescription she once AGAIN wrote it for the wrong dosage and only for 1 month. Seriously...I would NEVER go to this doctor or any other doctor in this office. I have NEVER written a Yelp review before, but I specifically created an account because I was so appalled by this doctor and her staff, who are EXTREMELY RUDE and unhelpful. I have never been so pissed with a healthcare service. read more

I saw Dr. Mar for a biopsy. The office is a bit cramped and dreary, but I was very pleased with her professionalism and follow up.

She also has an office in San Francisco on Sutter. She was the backup dermatologist for the original referral that went on vacation. I had some problems with my skin that I thought was something else and my doctor couldn't confirmed it for me. She was very attentive to my needs and address my concerns and really made me feel at ease. Because of her, she was able to confirmed what I suspect that my doctor couldn't figure out. I immediately got treatment and now all better. Comes highly reccomended. I am going to make her my permanent dermatologist once I switch doctor groups. read more

This is a super busy office. The waiting room contains many different types of people and the experience often reminds me of being on MUNI. Not a luxurious feeling office for sure but seem to be efficient and I like Dr. Mar a lot. read more

Just saw Dr. Mar and like her a lot. She appeared very patient and friendly. It was my first visit ever to a dermatologist and actually did not know what to do. I must say that Dr. Mar made me very comfortable. She is a wonderful person, and a great doctor. But, I didn't feel as if she answered all my questions. Maybe I didn't say it clear to her to get the answer I wanted. If I could give her 4 1/2 stars, I would. Anyhow, I definately will return to her with any skin problem in the future! read more

I have been seeing Dr. Mar for about 2 years now, was moved to her from Dr. Lucia Tuffanelli and, I have to say, I am thrilled to be in Dr. Mar's care. I recently told her I was pregnant and she went the extra mile to explain how the body changes and what to expect over the next several months. I also recently told her I had concern about one mole and she is squeezing me today to take a look and hopefully give me peace of mind. Dr Mar saved my life! One year ago I went to a random dermatologist from my health care plan to have some spots on my back checked out and to get an overall scan for skin cancer. The doctor I saw (not Dr. Mar) told me everything looked fine. My wife was not convinced and eventually talked me into seeing Dr. Mar for another opinion. Dr Mar removed a small growth on my back and had it biopsied, turned out to be Melanoma! The next week I was in the Melanoma clinic at CPMC, and two weeks later was in surgery have tissue and lymphnodes removed. So far the cancer has not spread thanks to Dr. Mar's early detection.
