My 8 year old Pomeranian declined FAST and suddenly stopped eating. It was after hours, and this is…read moreone of the few 24 hr emergency places you can take your pet. I called around 8pm and they got me in for 9pm to see a doctor. Every tech, and doctor we interacted with were so nice and caring. They quickly did X-rays and discovered a severe case of bladder stones. Unfortunately, emergency surgery was our only option. It was expensive... $4,000 but everywhere else would of been around the same price. Their initial evaluation visit was actually cheaper than the quote I got at VCA. The doctor did an amazing job and called us as soon as he was out of surgery. She was able to get every stone out, including the tiny ones. She saved our fur baby's life!!! Not only that, but when we went to pick him up, the doctor spent a long time with us helping to figure out a better diet plan moving forward. I appreciated that we were not rushed. Facility wise, the lobby area is huge and very nice. There are lots of rooms... it feels spacious. My dog was in great care here and is now on the mend. If you need to take your pet to an emergency place, they will be in good hands here. They made us pay about $2,000 as a deposit to start the surgery and we had to pay the rest upon pick up.

Side note: I've hinted to Dr. Hisanaga......where is Dr. Takaesu's picture in the hospital waiting room?.....he told me that they working on it. Thank you.

Finding a truly cat friendly vet has been such a relief! We adopted a very sick kitten and also have an older cat who struggles with anxiety and respiratory issues. From our very first visit, Dr. Hester and the staff made us feel secure in that we were getting the best care for our cats. They took the time to listen to all of our concerns and provided tailored care for both of our cats. They treated not just our kitten, but our anxious older (big and kind of mean) cat with such kindness and understanding. Their ability to handle our anxious cat with such care and professionalism is truly commendable. The staff always makes us feel heard and comfortable, and their dedication to their patients is evident. We have done X-rays, multiple medications, food changes, vaccines, and annual exams with them and prices have been very reasonable and clearly stated to us!

Our favorite veterinarian on island, Dr. Peacott, has always been exceptional with our furry family members. He has treated us kindly, is very honest and upfront, he explains procedures and medications well, and he stays current on the literature for the best modalities in care. My beloved BeBe struggled in his later years, & despite my efforts, I was unable to find a veterinarian I could fully trust. Sadly, he passed away from pancreatitis that went undiagnosed. The practice I saw, felt rushed & detached, and BeBe's (nor my) pain & distress were met with the concern, that was deserved. Losing BeBe under those circumstances left me heartbroken, carrying deep guilt. Years later, after adopting Buffy, history seemed at risk of repeating itself as he too faced health challenges in old age. Desperate to find better care, I found Dr. Tamura--and everything changed. Her knowledge & attentiveness were immediately evident. She quickly diagnosed Buffy with diabetes & patiently taught me how to monitor his glucose levels & administer insulin. Because of her guidance & care, Buffy went on to live a long, happy, & well-loved life. When the time came to say goodbye to Buffy, Dr. Tamura's compassion went far beyond medical care; it was unforgettable. She sat with me, encouraged Buffy to enjoy his favorite final meal--a personal pan pizza topping...and as Dr. Tamura gently administered the injections, she cried alongside me. That moment meant more than words can express. How many veterinarians share that depth of empathy and tenderness? After many years, I adopted my current pup, Chibi. I feel deeply reassured knowing Dr. Tamura & her amazing team (more like a family) are caring for her. Even now, commuting an hour from Honolulu even during rush hour, does not deter me. The trust, empathy, & quality of care there, are truly rare.

My chow chows were neglected during the last month of my pregnancy and three months after the birth…read moreof my baby girl. Their fur got so matted I knew I needed professional help. I called around to get them groomed. Two places flat out refused to groom them because they are chows. When I contacted Maikai via yelp, Lita was agreeable to get them groomed and scheduled my appointment. The appointment day and time came and no groomer showed up. I called Lita who told me she'd find out what happened. She called me back within half hour and let me know the groomer got bitten at the previous appointment and wasn't able to make it. She offered to reschedule the appointment and we did. I wasn't there for the rescheduled appointment and was worried my dogs would be temperamental since they never been groomed by an outsider, but it was my husband who got temperamental since he didn't understand what needed to be done. My mom was there to alleviate concerns and told me the groomer did the best she could. Because they were matted, the only option was a shave. My mom said the groomer took her time and really cared about her work. After the grooming was done, I received a call from Lita who discussed with me how the grooming went. I appreciate the call since I couldn't be there and I'm the primary caregiver to my boys. I give them five stars because 1. They took my boys in when other places wouldn't, 2. My mom said the groomer took care in grooming them, 3. Lita was professional in communication, 4. They're chows chows, not the easiest breed to groom because of fur and temperament, 5. They came to the house which made it easier to handle my boys. I hope to use them again in the future, but with my boys fur in better shape the next time around.

She immediately was able to set an appointment to accommodate my schedule (after work @530). My Lilo has been going to PetSmart to get groomed but the last couple times it wasnt a successful visit :(. Her nails were getting long n she gets very excited around other dogs, so I turned to YELP as usual n found Maika'i Pet Sitting n Mobile Grooming. Lalita and April came promptly at 530 if not a couple minutes early. They dont have a mobile truck so they do use your yard to do their services, but thats not a problem because it made Lilo feel even more comfortable at home. As Lalita and April began Lilo immediately took to both of them n they were able to get to work. She got a basic service of a bathe, nail clipping, and ear cleaning. Lilo enjoyed every minute of it. They also mentioned that not only do they have house sitting, they do drop in services if ur on vacation as well:). You best believe I will be calling them again for Lilo's SPA treatment as ii called it:))) Give them a try you wont be disappointed:))

Joey was in and out of this hospital through some very serious moments. He had to be induced many times, undergo emergency procedures, and face situations where I truly didn't know if I would get more time with him. And every single time, this team showed up--with skill, urgency, and unwavering dedication. They didn't just treat him... they gave him more life. Because of them, Joey lived to 15 years and 2 months--time I know I wouldn't have had otherwise. That is something I can never repay. But what truly sets this hospital apart is their compassion. Every doctor, every technician, every staff member treated Joey like he was their own. And they treated me with such kindness and patience through every high and every devastating low. When it came time to say goodbye, they handled his final moments with a level of grace and humanity that I will never forget. There was no rush, no clinical coldness--only quiet compassion. They made space for love, for dignity, and for a peaceful goodbye. In the middle of the hardest moment of my life, they created something that felt gentle... and even beautiful. Joey wasn't just a patient there. He was known, he was loved, and he was fought for. And I will be forever grateful to this team for giving me the gift of more time with my boy--and for helping me say goodbye to him in the most compassionate way possible. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart
