This was a moms night out activity. The day after halloween so wasn't very scary. I am not one to watch horror movies coz I get spooked very easily. So when I heard how this walking your was going to be more of a history lesson, I was into it. some of the stories seemed a bit hollywood like. But the tour guide was a great story teller. If you like haunted experiences you might be a bit disappointed. The sites themselves are all tragic events like the St Peters church and the Naperville Metra station crash. So you would definitely feel the eeriness. The fun part is the EMF meters that go off on random things - like your phone, the wires under the sidewalk - sometimes even your own heart. But that's what made it fun - and the feel of energy that could be a ghost. We had a drink at Quigleys before the tour so that helped us be silly too. My hubby surprised me with booking this tour and it was really enjoyable! We did a paranormal tour in Portland, which really lacked because all the stories related to certain buildings which we couldn't go into. This tour has a lot of stops along the way (be prepared to stand and walk!!) and almost all of them involve an outdoor element. You could really start to picture what was being described and try to pick up abnormalities on your phone. Kevin was a great tour guide. At first I was worried that he'd be a little bit too dramatic, but he ended up being a great story teller with a lot of passion. He really knows his stuff and had great answers to our questions too- it ended up giving me more to think about as we left. Really the only reason I'd give it 4/5 is because there were too many comments about how big tour groups usually are and self promotion. I feel like there'd be more than 17 yelp reviews if there were 40+ per tour every night. It got a little distracting. I'd still really recommend it to anyone. read more

I went into this tour not knowing what to expect and came out a little more knowledgeable, a bit creeped out and with some cool pics of orbs! I love learning about history, and Kevin definitely knows the facts about Naperville! He's even rewritten the books by interviewing ghosts who told the real story of what has happened (take that as you'd like...). Kevin was definitely an eccentric tour guide, but his stories are pretty interesting and amusing. It's a little bit hard to hear while on the busy street, especially if you have a big group of people, but worth the time and money. BE SURE TO BRING YOUR CAMERA! Don't be afraid to take pictures while on the tour. I managed to get a few pictures of orbs while we were standing on top of an old burial ground. True Story: After the tour I while walking back to my car alone, I passed a house where a barn used to stand. As the story goes, a man unburied his wife that was in her grave and brought her here to try and bring her back to life. Both of them are rumored to haunt the location. Well needless to say, having heard the story I was looking at the house while I was walking past it and swear I saw a shadow of a woman in the window. The presenter Kevin was very entertaining and props to wearing a wool jacket in a million degrees! I was a little disappointed as we were not able to go into any haunted locations, nor given an EMF detector promised on the website. There were a few too many people on the tour, but Kevin projected for everyone to hear. I used a Groupon, and was satisfied with how much we paid, but I would recommend reducing to even $15. We adventured out on the Naperville Ghost tour on Saturday night. The sign up is extremely easy and relaxing. The price is also pretty resonable. When we started the tour Kevin was extremely knowledgable and animated. Some of the stories were really long and drawn out, but all in all this guy knows his stuff and is passionate about what he does. I love the story about the galloping horses and the footage. While I give Kevin a great amount of credit... the tour was a little unenjoyable because there were so many people on it. At least 30-50. It doesn't allow you to feel the chills or get scared. It was hard to see the TV and hear the footage because you could not see over people. It was also Saturday night in downtown naperville so there were a lot of distractions from people passing by. My only other question was....the website and article said we'd be dressed up as a "ghostbuster"... it advertises that the, "Tour has EMF Ghost Meters for free use," and we never got one. read more

Very fun tour!! Went with my husband last night. Good sized crowd, about 30 people. Kevin was very entertaining and animating telling the stories, very much kept things interesting. A woman in our group shot a few pictures of the St Peter Paul church and caught a nice orb on her camera...which was very cool! There are some great stores told - Kevin mixes in fact with little unknown tidbits to keep things interesting. $25 for a 2 hour walking tour was not a bad deal at all. My husband and I got a really good deal for Kevin Frantz and Chuck Kennedy's Ghost Tour and used it on a Saturday night. We got a really good group since there were only 9 of us so it wasn't overcrowded and we got to ask questions. It was amazing how much time and effort the hosts have put into gathering all the information they have. For this tour they did a special on one story but they told more haunted stories which is good. I am glad because like what I expected, it was more historical and everything were provided by the hosts. Kevin gave us EMF ghost meters which were fun to use as we walked around the cemetery. They showed us articles, photos and made us listen to EVPs which was pretty cool. Kevin is a good storyteller too! It was all worth it especially when he gave us a free book that he have just written and signed it! read more

Not really worth it. Four stories and a disinterested guide. The stories were unclear and did not really provide much in the way of excitement. A priest said their were crypts in the STS Peter & Paul basement in the 70s, near the corner of Ellsworth & School someone heard the sound of a horse and an electromagnetic tree. There was a somewhat scary story of a haunted apartment in the Kroehler building but again the delivery of the details did not make it spooky. I'm not looking for Wes Craven but sell it a little. What a huge disappointment! I was looking forward to this night and the let-down was awful. This is not a ghost tour. It is the Kevin show. He is a fraud who is only looking to make a quick buck. Nothing like standing outside and looking at pictures in a binder and listening to recordings that clearly lack validity. What a sham!!!! If you are looking for a tour where you listen to someone recite a script while standing in an asphalt parking lot then this is the tour for you. Otherwise I would recommend spending your $25 at one of the bars in downtown Naperville for a better time. Went with a couple of friends last night. Kevin walks you to 5 locations, tells you a really drawn out story and plays some tape where the ghost voices sound exactly as you would expect. The crowd was big, the night was cold. We expected to be moving around more (which would have allowed us to keep warm) but unfortunately the presenter seemed to completely ignore the fact that the crowd was very chilled and went on and on and on (did I say on...) with stories at each of the sites. While interesting for the first 20 minutes you'll quickly get over it. Definitely not worth the price. It's too bad because I really was excited about going but honestly, guys, my Dad told scarier stories. This guy needs to shorten up his tales or possibly let his assistant do a bit more. She seemed far more interesting than him and also appeared to have a sense of humor (something Kevin seemed lacking). The highlight for us was when a group of drunken college students paraded through the park singing. Now THAT WAS A SHOW. Hysterical. Long story short, I'd give this a thumbs down. I've done a few of these in the past in other cities and this was definitely one of the least interesting. Tip for presenter: Telling people to take pictures throughout the whole tour is silly. People are coming to hear a few cool ghost stories, get a little scared and have a fun. I feel like you struck out on all three. read more

My family and I went on the Aurora tour and it was TERRIBLE! Not worth the money at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our tour guide had NO idea what he was talking about. Told us the tour was "scripted" then brought out his nook device too look up the "script" because he forgot the names of the people in one of the stories he was telling. Took the walking tour last nite. It was so much fun! I think the address is 43 W. Jefferson - starts at Quigley's Pub. Diane was our tour guide. She is a great storyteller and had our interest the entire time. Whether one believes or not, this was fun. And who expects the spirit world to act on command! Please! We were lucky enough to have a good amount of activity on our EMF meter- whatever that really means - who cares but it was fun! Our tour began at 8:30 and ended a bit after 11pm. The night was perfect! We ate at Quigley's before and that was very good as well. The staff of Haunted Hometowns did their best to accommodate our preference on tour times and it was most appreciated. My only comment is that for the walking tour, whether it is 2 hours or longer, a break is a good idea - one easily could've been worked in over by 5th ave. station. Also, tours could be for adults only, maybe with a special separate family tour time. Other than that, would gladly go on their other tours. read more

I went on the Friday tour and had a great time, Curt is a great storyteller (also an accomplished hypnotist, very nice and interesting guy). They were really nice, very cool stories. I'm not a super ghost believer but I did have a pretty scary experience (I was actually a little freaked out so didn't even mention it at the time). I definitely recommend this and will definitely be going back and also to take the Saturday night tour with Kevin (different tours). My wife and I did enjoy the tour, the tour guide was entertaining and had some very good stories to tell (at the beginning I was worried he was going to be too "over the top" and overact, but I think that was just part of his routine). He was very knowledgable about the area, and had a good mix of funny/creepy in his delivery. The only real downside was that you didn't get to go inside any structures, you're just out on the city streets, so you lose a little bit of mystery. At the price of $25/person, I think it was perhaps on the high side for just being an outdoor walking tour, but I can't say I didn't enjoy the time. read more

We went on this tour as part of a Bachelor/Bachelorette party, and we were VERY happy with it, especially the bride! Kevin was super nice and a pleasure to work with from the start, and was more than accommodating! Unlike every single other ghost tour company I talked to, he didn't require a deposit and didn't even charge us extra to do a private tour! The tour was really interesting, and he really emphasized both the history of the town and the stories he shared with us. I'm not one for scary movies and things of that nature, and I really liked the fact that the tour wasn't designed so much to scare you, but rather to inform you. The EMF ghost meters you said had been promised on Kevin's website are offered ONLY by MY ghost tours, Haunted Hometowns, aka Historic Ghost Tours of Naperville/Aurora/Elgin, est. 2004. If you were expecting them on your tour, you were misled into taking the wrong Naperville ghost tour and I missed out on your business. Kevin used to work for me--we became friends--but then he stole my legacy of stories, business plan, and business name (he called his Ghost Tours of Naperville: mine is Historic Ghost Tours of Naperville. We dearly depart from Quigley's Irish Pub at 43 E. Jefferson. It says here he departs at 34 W. Jefferson, which he doesn't. Tell me that's not deliberately confusing). He has been leeching off my reputation, business concepts, ideas and customers ever since. The statements here offer more proof that he's causing confusion among potential customers instead of competing fairly. Contradicting Kevin's misleading claims, I was the first person to collect and document Naperville's ghost stories, compiling them over my lifetime as a Naperville resident. These stories are my legacy in this world, but Kevin claims the honor is his. Kevin didn't even know Naperville had ghosts until he met me--but he bases his entire tour business on my lifelong work, without giving me due credit for being his resource, which any kid who ever wrote up a research paper's bibliography knows is an intellectual property copyright law violation. But then he exaggerated and twisted my stories waaaaaay off from the facts for cheap scares and to avoid being sued. He's entertaining, sure...but his so-called "paranormal evidence" and historical "facts" are wildly, ludicrously wrong--and though I can't prove it yet, I have reason to believe that all or most of it is deliberately faked. But his charm sells it. Sorry for the rant but I'm very sensitive about this topic, as you can imagine. And it's important that customers know the vast differences between our ghost tours to avoid confusion and ensure they get the tour they expected and paid for. As for my tours offering only 4 stories...wow, is THAT ever wrong! Kevin's tour goes to only 4 locations, but on my Historic District tour we go to 9 locations, each with numerous stories of authentic Naperville legends, documented first hand accounts, and historical events fact-checked by the Naper Settlement historian. Plus we offer the thrill of EMF meters going off in our guests' hands; nothing is rigged, but sometimes it can't be debunked! Last year had the most unexplained readings since we first opened! Like one of the other reviewers, I also got yelled at by the host Kevin - for laughing even though I tried to stifle it under my breath (which only made it worse). Although he is a good storyteller, Kevin took himself way too seriously. The stories were long and drawn out and did not hold my attention. When he told a story about seeing a clown ghost, I couldn't help myself. You don't see any ghosts (real or fake). They show you photoshopped pictures and have "recorded" audio as evidence. If you want to learn some historical information about some tragedies in Naperville, it is worthwhile. But if you want to be entertained and have a little fun or be scared- don't waste your time. read more

If I could give this "tour" zero stars I would. I went on the "Naperville Ghosts Walking Tour" last night with my husband and two other couples. It was a total waste of money to give this guy $25 per person to walk around Naperville with him. Kevin is a total hack. His script is so rehearsed that he will take absolutely no questions until he is done with his speech. He talks about seeing "orbs" but you will see nothing. He told our group that if we took a picture and saw an orb to please send it to him; so apparently we were paying him to find ghosts for him! The young lady who is Kevin's assistant is lovely, however. At times she would walk around with a binder and show us pictures of ghosts, etc. When we got to an old store that has been closed for years in Naperville, The Red Geranium, Kevin began telling a story about a man who had committed suicide in the store/home. As I began to walk up to the store's front porch and take a picture with one of my friends, Kevin told us to stop and that we couldn't walk up to the front porch because it was private property. Fair enough, I thought. After we left the Red Geranium and he walked off without answering our questions, Kevin's assistant did ask if we we would like any questions answered, but Kevin just kept on walking. When we got to Saints Peter and Paul church Kevin stood on the steps of the church and began to tell another ghost story. I thought it was odd that SS. Peter and Paul church would condone this guy telling ghost stories on their steps, especially because he just told me that we couldn't stand on private property. So, I asked him if the SS Peter and Paul priests had given him permission to tell his stories there. He immediately said yes, so I said, "oh, which priest?" Unbelievably he started screaming at me to leave his tour!! I could not believe how angry he had gotten so quickly. My husband asked for our money back but he screamed that we would not give it to us. So, my husband and the other two couples left the tour. Basically this guy got $150 of our money because I asked the wrong question. It was completely bizarre. I'm a 49 year old mother of three, not a teenager who was acting up an giving this guy a hard time. Apparently he just didn't like being caught in a lie. Save your money people, this one not one is not worth it. The only frightening part of that tour was Kevin's display of explosive anger after he got caught in a lie. read more

Paid $110 bucks for 4 on Groupon for the Elgin haunted ghost tour for 6:30 10/26/13, got to the street where we were suppose to meet on Chicago street in Elgin to find it was blocked off for another event, some Zombie thing, the entire street was gated off and they would not let us through unless we paid to get into the Zombie fest, we explained to them that we were not going to the Zombie fest and our meeting spot was just on the street that happened to be blocked off the guards were not having it. We tried to call the contact number but got a voicemail by this time we had already wasted 15-20 minutes. They told us that our meeting spot was at some bar and all the businesses on Chicago street had signed an agreement that stated anyone wanting to visit on this day would have to pay a fee to get into the zombie fest. We even asked the officer to walk to the meeting spot to let them know we were there and couldn't pass, the guards supposedly did and came back to tell us according to the tour rep we had to pay an addition fee to get into the zombie fest in order to get in. WHAT, this little piece of information would have been helpful to know ahead of time upon booking the tour, to give us an option of wanting to pay the extra fee to enter an event we really were not interested in, or rescheduling on another day. Bottom line we drove 40 minutes to get to this tour that we were not able to take part in, what a waste of time, family was really looking forward to this tour, will be requesting a refund from GROUPON ASAP... read more
