They are happy to accommodate diners with dogs (there are also dog-free areas) and it's very child-friendly (there's a children's menu, and some tables seat eight). The menu offers starters at £7.50-£7.95, mains around £18 (except fish and seafood at £24 and steak at £29), desserts at £7.50, as well as a choice of ice creams and sorbets (£3.50-£7.50). They offer a range of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. We chose Sea Bass served with Lemon Parsley Caper Butter, Herb Roasted New Potatoes, Garden Salad with Buckwheat & Broad Beans with Honey Mustard Sauce & New Leaf Microgreens (£24); and the one of the vegetarian options: Glamorgan Crumble a tower of Leeks, Carrot, Breadcrumbs & Mature Cheddar Cheese, Garlic & Herb Roasted New Potatoes, Glebelands Salad, Quinoa, Bean, Vegetable Salad & Fresh Herb White Sauce (£19.95). We followed this with Dark Cherry & Marzipan Bake Vanilla Ice Cream £7.50. Overall, the food was very good, except that the seabass was (disappointingly) over done and therefore falling apart. I always think it's a little odd serving a cold side salad on the side (or in my case underneath) a hot dish, although overall the flavours did work well together. The Glamorgan Crumble was very tasty. Service was a little manic: some staff seemed to run around all evening, and we were served by four different people during the evening. (One was very nice, two were a bit brusque.) They were busy, but we had booked (and were expecting) a table in the downstairs area with a river view, but were shown to a different part of the restaurant area. There were, however, a number of reserved tables which remained empty through the evening, so it seems like they had a few no-shows. Overall we had a nice evening: with two glasses of wine, the bill came to £75 for two, excluding service. It's firmly worth four stars, and of course you're paying for the location, but at these prices, getting the fish right and calmer service would land a five.

We only booked a few hours in advance of our reservation but as the owner is Vegan herself they were not fazed in the slightest by our dietary requirements and we were given a number of options for each course when we arrived. Starters: We had the tomato tart and soup. Both were lovely and there was a choice of two Vegan soups which came with bread and dairy free spread. Main Course: We had the Thai vegetable green curry with a dhaal side and the pancake. The curry itself and the side of dhaal were great. Both really flavoursome and tasty. The pancake was fantastic and was served as a burrito with mushrooms, spinach, couscous and other delights inside. I had it with rice but you can have chips or rosemary & lemon potatoes instead. Dessert: Not that we had much room for dessert after the excellent starter and main course! We all had the chocolate cake was absolutely wonderful! Moist with lots of tasty chocolate icing on top. Apparently it's always Vegan too. They gave us the option of either whipped soya cream (which we chose) or sorbet to accompany it. There were also lots of Vegan wines marked clearly on the menu. Wow! We learned about The Baker's Table on a Talgarth Mill brochure left at our AirBnB in Penderyn,…read moreon the other side of Brecon Beacons park... We were heading back to London the next day, and at first thought "too bad this isn't on our way home," but the next morning decided we wanted to see more of the park anyway, as well as a few other points north before our weeklong adventure adjourned... What a pleasure it was to stop here on that dreary morning! When we arrived around 10:30am, the whole place was bustling with what turned out to be a tour group of retirees, about to tour the historic adjacent mill. The setup is counter service style: order your items, take your number and choose a table (indoors or outdoors). Most of the indoor tables overlook the brook running through the mill; the outdoor tables are in the courtyard of the mill buildings. They don't have a true breakfast, per se, but they have teas, coffee/espresso drinks, breads, cakes and cookies available all day, most of which are made using grains locally harvested and milled right there. There are some gluten free options available as well. At 11:30, their lunch menu is available and features sandwiches, soup and salads, all made from locally sourced, processed and grown Welsh foods. We were still finishing up our morning coffee, enjoying the chill vibe of the place (especially after the tour group moved on - haha!) by the time lunch was available, so we decided to stick around a little longer and try it out too! After much deliberation about how to best sample their offerings (everything sounded AMAZING), we opted for a soup/sandwich combo with the ham, cheese & mustard sandwich and fresh garden pea and mint soup, along with a "board" that included salad, two cheeses, local ham, an apple, fresh cherry tomatoes, house chutney and fresh bread. So simple, but so delicious!! We ate it ALL... I can't recommend enough the sheer quality of this real, simple but delicious local food. Other items to note: Credit cards require a £10 minimum charge. Locally made gifts and gourmet food items are available for purchase. Restroom entrance is in the courtyard, but there are public toilets in the adjacent building, facing the street as well. Free Wi-Fi. Check out the Talgarth Mill Craft Shop next door if you are looking for locally made Welsh treasures to take home. Free parking (and recycling drop-off) is available a couple of short blocks away, just off the highway. The Talgarth visitor's centre across the street is there for all kinds of information about the area, or, if you'd just like to converse with the friendly locals.
