We went again tonight, 10/22/18, for our daughter's birthday dinner. Service and food were at the quality expected but the bill came with a surprise. It stated in print; "SERVICE NOT INCLUDED," a statement that is nowhere to be found on the menu. It is our custom to leave a small amount of cash as "Trinkgelt" but service is an entirely different matter. We put down 5% at which point the waiter pointed out that it was inadequate because service was not included. We spoke to the tall "manager" up front, pointing out that service is always included in German restaurant prices. He stated that that was the case in "German" restaurants but not in any "Greek" restaurant in Munich that he knew of -- a clear lie. We have recommended this place to many of our Munich friends in the past, but needless to say, we will never return to Thalassa and will inform our friends of our experience. Our neighbor, a policewoman by profession, shares our suspicion that speaking English targeted us for discriminatory (and perhaps illegal) treatment. It came in a casserole dish covered in cheese and looked a little like lasagna. It tasted delicious though. For dessert, w had a sweet puff pastry with ice cream. The service was a little slow, even by German standards, but we also realized very quickly there were only 2 servers for 20 tables. That was another sign we knew we were in the right place, the entire restaurant was packed with locals and they even had to turn some people away. One of the staff said that if we wanted gyros, he could make a few of those for us to go. That was honestly what we were after so of course we accepted his offer. This place is a little greek spot located off the tram in a sleepy neighborhood. We went at night for dinner and it was easy to get lost, but I wrote the directions down. This is what happens when you don't have an international data plan, your life resembles the 1990's. An incredibly family place and the kind of place that you let the owner tell you what to get. We deferred to him and he chose lamb and octopus and sweet baby Jesus it was amazing. Nothing the man suggested wasn't good. I would have bought stock in a CD making company if he told me to.
