Not having a psychiatrist and being so close to my home, I decided to stop in and check it out. What I found was different from a traditional doctors office. I met Dr. Turell the psychiatrist and owner of the practice who runs the place. There was old vinyl records playing and a comfortable atmosphere. Dr. Turell was very friendly and welcoming. I set up an initial appointment where he asked me a lot of questions to get to know me and then prescribed me medication. After a few appointments he introduced me to a service he had available for depression called Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) which I had never heard of. Being resistant to many psychiatric medications I decided to give it a try. Dr. Turell was very helpful and professional throughout the sessions I've had with him. I definitely recommend Strive Mental Health and Wellness to anyone in the Cleveland area looking to tryout TMS or get involved in wellness programs he has to offer.

He is kind, non-judgmental and easy to talk to. Appointments are easy to schedule and I'm never stuck sitting in the waiting room for long periods of time. The treatment plan is always clear and I get to have a voice in it. I've always felt like my feelings and issue were taken seriously and never invalidated. I highly recommend him.

The only reason I'm leaving a review is to potentially save even ONE vulnerable survivor from making the mistake I made in seeing him. (He met with me twice via zoom. I opened up to him which took great courage. He called me a few days before our third session and told me to find someone else who can help me because he didn't think we were a good fit. This is devastating to any survivor of horrific childhood abuse and he, of all people, should know better! Luckily, I've done a lot of internal healing work over the past few years, so even though his phone call was upsetting, it didn't throw me into chaos and make me suicidal. I shudder at the thought of him doing this to someone else who hasn't done the healing that I've done! This could be the straw that breaks the camel's back for them!) Again, STAY AWAY.

After accidentally missing an appointment, I reached out to reschedule and was told I could not because I supposedly had a past-due balance of $105. I knew this was incorrect because I had already paid $110 through the patient portal. Instead of investigating before denying care, I was simply told I couldn't be rescheduled until I paid the balance. After I provided proof of payment, the office admitted they had found my payment--it had been in a section of their system that only the office manager could access. While I appreciate the apology, this issue should have been resolved before I was denied care. The most concerning part of this experience is that these were mental health services. Patients seeking mental health care are often already in a vulnerable position. Being turned away because of an internal billing error created unnecessary stress and delayed access to care. Administrative mistakes happen, but patients should not bear the consequences of those mistakes. I hope this office improves its billing processes and communication so others don't have to fight to receive the care they need. I continue to see my therapist and nurse practitioner, Devon and Jennifer, who are amazing. My experience with the office staff is extremely poor.
