Just like there's a moment of eye-pain when you open the blinds a sunny day, there's gonna be a moment of awkwardness when you walk through the door into the super romantic ambience. Just power through. Make joke about it if necessary. Just power through. It's a place designed to get you into a warm fuzzy haze of happiness. Didn't like the chairs though. They're big and bulky, there's too many of them, and I don't like to perform self-origami just to sit down.

Had a chance to visit this bar while I was in Hamburg. It is a very nice looking bar about a 5…read moreminute walk from Hamburg Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) and features outdoor seating. The drink selection is very good and the ambiance is very nice. My only complaint was the level of service I received. It was myself and two other tourists there, and the waiter was too busy entertaining his friends and checking on others that he completely ignored us. We attempted to get his attention on several occasions to get our bill because we had to leave, and from the time we initially got his attention to the time we paid our bill and left, was approximately 20 minutes. I felt that the service could have been a lot better.

Ask for a bottle list and they pull out the only bottle they serve, which is a southern German wheat beer. They had Choufe on tap, which, for my money, is probably my favorite Belgian Blonde beer, and they had a Boulevard beer from Kansas City as well as a Brew Dog beer that was full of diacetyl. Two tables outside, and kind of an angular design inside. My favorite place in Hamburg to drink craft beer.

There are 3 screens available and on champions league nights with simultaneous games on, it is quite awesome. 30 mins in and I've been standing the whole time, I start to feel the hate part of the relationship. The bar is frequently visited by loads of english speakers. You will her more english than german whilst here. My tips are to probably get in early and get a table if game day. Drink wise, you've got your standard irish drinks and a paddys ale is always available which is quite good. Also available are nut and pizza is available for purchase. I am yet to try the pizza but do you really want to eat pizza at a bar?

I have also been very late (post-theater) on a Saturday evening and we never made it inside; we had to sit outside. The decor is subtle and classy. Le Lion is the cradle of the gin basil smash (I had never heard of it until I came here but it seems to be a Hamburg thing). You do pay a premium for the drink but it's the original and it's also a good drink. In conclusion: Come early to get inside for the full speakeasy experience. Come late and understand if you have to sit outside. Don't miss the gin basil smash; they invented it.

Walk through the front door into the kitchen/utility room. In the back there is a living room, then further back still is the bedroom (also where you'll find the table football table, oddly. Update: We went to 3 Zimmer Wohnung again last night and I accidently found out that theyve massively expanded! Basically I was looking for the toilet (having never been to them here before) and took a wrong turn in the maze downstairs which landed me in the table-football room. After talking to the barman it seems that they only opened the room up a few weeks ago. So the upstairs is the same 3 Room Flat that we've always known, but downstairs there is a new long room with a few sofas, a second bar and 6 table-football tables. Yes, 6. It's quite a cool game, but it's depressing how good all the locals are at it...

Our waitress was fluent in English and made us feel welcome in a "so you're not from around her, but that's okay, sit here" kind of way.... Very pleasant! The beer was plentiful and ice cold, and we had the Wienerschnitzel (I know... cliché, but oh so good!), and it came out fast, hot and delicious. Also, for French Fries fans... these were thin, hot and crispy! (Not a big fan of soft fries/chips).
