Full Disclosure: I own a house that Napali Properties manages. I have found that they have been very professional in helping maintain my property. I'm writing this because I had been renting my house with another company for over a decade and have found that Napali Properties has been extremely helpful and conscientious in taking care of my house that i don't get to visit enough but feel confident that 'it is in good hands'. Over the years, i've noticed that what Mark Twain said (paraphrase) is true: 'Most people are just about as happy as they want to be'. There must be a little truth in some of the negative responses i have read - there are always 3 sides to any story, but i can say that from my experience with Napali Properties, i have only experienced what Carol K. wrote: "Jane and her staff at Na Pali Properties are professional, knowledgeable, honest and efficient. they are sharp, they know what they are doing and they obviously enjoy helping people find great places to rent or buy." Renting a Princeville condo managed by Na Pali. Arrived to a clean, well equipped 2 bedroom unit. Furnished nicely. All appliances are in good condition. Only critique is that 2 overhead light bulbs were burned out. I found new bulbs in the supply closet and replaced them. Condo is located on the Makai golf course. Pretty view looks out towards the ocean. Quiet and peaceful complex. The pool is clean. The hot tub is out of service with no repair date predicted. Despite these shortcomings I plan to return next year. read more

I recently used this realty agency for a 2 week vacation home rental for the second time. It appears that the first time, "we just lucked out" because the home we rented had been newly renovated. We were very excited to have the experience again and paid 2,600/week for a wonderful looking rental next to the beach. The price of this property was in line given location and size relative to the others listed on their website. NOT. We arrived at a house which was much older than appeared in the pictures on the website (scary flashback to online dating experience right now). It was a 2 bedroom with an additional master suite loft; we quickly discovered that one of the bedrooms was filled with mold as one of our party cannot tolerate it and couldn't go into that room. The floor in that room was not redone like the rest of the house; it was faded linoleum with what looked like cigarette burns all over it. Upon moving one of the beds to another room so that it could be used, there was a hole about the size of a golf ball that led directly under the house. Now in Kauia in this kind of house that actually means it leads outside, as there is no built basement AT ALL. Within three days, one of the burners on the electric (eek) stove had burnt out, the ballasts on the fluorescent lights in the bathroom and kitchen were fried (they're old, just fiddle with it a bit to turn it on said the realty - ??! huh?? I don't want to do that on vacation) and the dryer blew out. The worse is in this tropical paradise, we discovered many of the screens in the door and skylights had holes in them, so mosquitoes were streaming in day and night. The house had no broadband and promised a BBQ, which turned out to be an old portable hibachi that had rusted out, under the house. We had to call the realty to bring us another one. When asked why they would rent a house in such disrepair for this amount of money, they said, they do not really manage this house, they merely handle the bookings. What I ask is the point in renting a house all the way from New York City with an agency which can't quality control the condition of a property??? read more

Most visitors to Hanalei will remember the great times they had in beautiful weather and never give a thought to the property owners they rented from, but when things go wrong, it's more important than ever to know you are dealing with. When the historic floods hit Hanalei recently, we were already in Maui, anticipating our flight to Kauai. Barbara of Na Pali Properties called us to let us know what had happened, and of course when we saw the news accounts the next day, we knew we would not be able to go there. We had to come home early but Na Pali refunded $$$everything$$$ we had paid - these are stand up people you can trust when renting your vacation property on Kauai. Don't rent from these people. They are dishonest. I actually had a great experience with my rental, right up until the end, when they tried to scam me out of my $400 security deposit. They said I had caused damage and that the unit required "extensive cleaning". To back this up, they sent photos-- of crumbs on the floor, a baby carrot my son left under a cushion, sand in the shower.. essentially what you would expect after renting a beachside condo for a week. This was on top of the $225 cleaning fee I already paid, and after my wife and I cleaned the unit thoroughly. A terrible end to an otherwise nice trip. Stay away from this company. read more

We rented a cozy little plantation cottage from Na'Pali Properties in Hanalei Bay. The house was even better then in the pictures and we had such a great stay. Na'Pali is a small family run buisness and Jane was there to help us with everything we needed. We had some other friends staying the same week as us who also rented from Na'Pali properties and their places were great as well. I can't recommend highly enough, we will definitely be coming back. read more

Pretty much what the person before me said. They want the money but don't want to be held responsible for the condition of the property. They also make it very difficult to get into contact with them after they've received their payment. If anything is in disrepair, don't bother asking them to fix it because they will ignore you and say it's your fault (even if that is not the case). They're hours are infrequent and they gave us no emergency contact for when they were closed. In a nutshell, please don't use this agency to rent from because they will only end up screwing you over and it is not right to have to worry about something that should be a given while on vacation in Hawaii or for that matter, in life period! read more

We have just checked in to a property on Kauai rented by Na Pali Properties and advertised as a "refurbished" "luxury" oceanfront home called Hale Kalani. When we arrived we noticed the old, worn furniture..nothing new or refurbished here. The sofas and old, flat pillows had been sprayed down with a strong perfume to mask odors. Na Pali's answer? "Some people just love that." We were asked to find spare linens in the home and change them ourselves. I can only say I wish I'd never seen the stains under one of those pillow cases.. We opened all the doors and windows and went out on the patio to catch some fresh air and I found myself locked out of the house...the screen door whether locked or unlocked will not open from the outside... the only smoke detector has been removed from the wall and is nowhere to be found in the house...three out of four lights in the smaller bedroom including the bedside lamps either don't work or don't have lightbulbs in them....forget about reading before bed......the next morning cooking breakfast was spooky..the silver is worn and dirty...several spoons have seen the inside of the garbage disposal and have not been removed from the tray...every piece of silver and every knife I grab from the tray has small bits of food or rust...the toaster is broken..the kitchen wall is splattered with food and the baseboards are filthy..the floors are sticky and our ocean view is marred by filthy windows.. some windowns are covered with blinds that have a thick coat of grease and dust on them...the glass blind in the bathroom is broken and will only close manually.... Na Pali's answer?..the last occupants "really trashed the place". I was alarmed to find notes from the owners warning us not to take patio furniture out to the oceanfront lawn because "it will be stolen". There was also a note posted warning us that "burglaries by teenagers have occurred" . Scary! On day 2, after hearing our complaints, the screen door was fixed, the windows washed, the kitchen was cleaner( but still yucky ), the toaster was replaced and my son asked if he could sleep outside in the car. The smoke detector is still missing. It is apparent that the property managers have not been out to check on the condition of the property and that their advertising/website has not been updated to convey the state of the property and age of the furnishings. This rental experience is A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. I would not recommend staying at Hale Kalani or renting from this agency. read more

We arrived at our condo and were surprised that there was unexpected construction and a lot of noise. We immediately called the company and they offered to move us to a different property, which they did right away. They immediately gave us a full refund for the week's stay, but offered a free night and found an even better unit for us to stay in. They were super nice throughout the booking and moving process. Even though the first unit didn't work out, they did everything they could to make the process painless and they treated us very well. Thank you, Jane, for being so responsive and friendly. Dont ever work with Na Palo Prop. I was surprised by their in-hospitality, which is very counter to the island culture. They are dishonest and change rates in midst of reservations. Not only that, they have other property management companies working for them and dont communicate with each other. They quoted different rates for a rental called Riko Hale from 950/week to 1050/week even though their website said 950/week for 4 people. Then they tried to blame me for price negotiating and then lied that the property was booked. We know its a lie because its still available for the dates we wanted to rent. For travelers who are looking for a trusting host, these guys are opposite. They are rude and don't honor words or website prices. If you want to have a peaceful stay in Kauai, stay away from them and go with other property owners who are very nice and sincere. We found a much better place to rent from and are much happier now. Sorry for a long note, but I have to warn other travelers about this. read more

My family and I recently traveled to Kauai on vacation and booked a house rental through Na Pali Properties. From start to finish our experience was nothing but top rate. The owner, Jane provided us with a list of properties that fit our needs and helped us in evaluating the options. This was the first time that we were traveling with our nine month old daughter so we were fairly particular about the details. She not only found a wonderful home rental for us, she also took the time to provide us with contacts for baby equipment rentals as well as logistical information on where to shop and what to do with an infant. The icing on the cake was at our departure when we arrived at the airport and I thought I left my wallet at the house. Jane was kind enough to run back to the rental on a Sunday and check for me. This is a true family business that cares about the experiences their guests have on the island. If anyone is traveling to Kauai and looking to stay on the beautiful North Shore, I highly recommend booking with Na Pali! read more

Do not rent from Na Pali Properties! They do not value the safety of their renters! My family and I just returned from a 9 night stay in one of their properties without a smoke detector! I noticed the mounting bracket with wires sticking out of the wall, but no actual smoke detector, about half way through our stay and called. I was told it would be taken care of. I called 2 days later and was told it would be taken care of that day. The woman I spoke with seemed baffled that I was concerned about it. I called again the next day (before our final night there), and was told again that it would be taken care of that day. It never was. I am extremely dissappointed and upset that Na Pali Properties had so little regard for the safety of my family that they did not take action on such a simple safety measure, that is required by Hawaii state law! I plan to return to Kauai and will never rent from them again. read more
