However, this cathedral will surprise you so get closer. It's the tallest church in Switzerland. Built starting in 1421 and completed 400+ years later in 1893. Free to enter but if you want to go up the tower to get a nice view of Bernese Oberland and Aare River, you have to pay a fee. Before entering the church doors, be sure to look up. You'll see images of the Last Judgment figures: Archangel Michael, Jesus, Mary, apostles, the saved and the damned, and angels. Inside, you'll see the coordinate stained glass windows. There's a crypt underground which is another fee. It's quiet and people were respecting the fact that this is a church and not a market.

The detail in the front of the last judgement (difference of the wicked and the righteous sculptures) is just amazing and I cannot fathom the artistry and time it took to decorate and finish! Inside some amazing detail also in the ceiling and beautiful colour and detail of the stained glass windows. I really like the freaky skeleton detail of death with the living. It must have had an amazing story behind itself. I'm not currently a religious individual but I have mad respect for the the churches and detail put into making these places of worship, history and storytelling!

Dating to the 1720s, this facility isn't anywhere near the oldest, nor is it remotely the most beautiful. It's really not worth a stop. You'll only find an ordinary building with no majestic exterior features nor remarkable interior characteristics other than a large pipe organ. There is no stained glass, no stunning paintings, no famous burials. And there are numerous sketchy people on the exterior steps at all times of day that you may want to avoid.
