I guess it was still a pretty new place, but I didn't realize it at the time. I was still a pretty inexperienced new knitter. I had been intimidated more than once upon enter other local yarns shops in the Twin Cities area. That has never been my experience at Color Crossing. The folks who work there, create there, or just hang out are extremely helpful and never make me feel embarrassed about my inexperience. The yarn selection is GREAT, the owner and staff lovely, and the atmosphere inspiring! I took a sock class a few years ago and have had great success since then. For fun I took a weaving class last spring. Just a few weeks ago I bought my first ever spinning wheel and appreciated the chance to try out anything in stock to make sure I was getting the right wheel for me. Getting to any number of fiber shops is easy for me because of my location, but I rarely go anywhere but Color Crossing.

Historic! As a former UW-Stout alumni, I still take frequent Menomonie trips to check out all the…read morenew and remaining pieces of history and Mable Tainter remains one of the oldest standing buildings built in 1889. Crafted during the grand Victoria era, the interior and exterior boast arches, hand carved details, marble staircases and floors, walnut and oak woodwork and a 261 seat Victorian inspired theater. The craft of the building is breathtaking! Most recently, the former basement used primarily for storage has been converted into a beautiful bar called The Spirit Room. The idea came about during the 2020 pandemic when shows were at a stop for over 500 days. Flash forward to today and the new space boasts warm green tones in the lounge chairs and almost resembles Mancini's (for those who are native to Saint Paul, MN). I have yet to personally sit and enjoy a cocktail and small bite but this is now my second visit to the space and I appreciate what has been done. Additionally, I had the privilege to attend the 2025 Holiday Artisan Market where each vendor was scattered across the building including on stage and on the top level. The arrangement of this market was lovely as it got me more exposed to the theater where I could really appreciate the beauty. I wish the Mable Tainter great success in years to come! This was my first Renaissance Festival experience. I was told it was smaller then the on in…read moreMinnesota, so I thought it would be a good tryout for me. I know I have been wanting to go to the Renaissance Festival in Minnesota. I go to the State Fair every year. This location is in Glenwood, Wisconsin. The drive was nice, mostly because I didn't have to do it, so I got to look out the window as we passed fields and little towns and cows, etc. When we arrived, I was a little confused, because we had to drive up someone's driveway. Then we parked in a field next to the house. and in the way back was the entrance. Again, I've never been to a Renaissance Festival so I don't know if that is normal. But going to this place, was anything but normal. Not that it's a bad thing. I went with TT and JT. It was one of the first times, I thought TT was in her element. She fit right in with her parasol and outfit that day. She looked good as usual, but more in her element. Anyway, there were a lot of things to see for someone like myself who has never really seen it before. Lots of booths, food, beverages, and entertainment. I sat down and watched a Belly Dance they were good. I was fascinated by some of the things they could so. I took a picture of the lady balancing a blade on her head. That was cool. JT also got picked for a friendly contest because he was told he was a good looking dude. That was hilarious! Overall, it was an experience. I spent $10 to get in, which I thought was a decent price. I do know I don't feel the need to experience a Renaissance Festival again. It smelt like manure and at times, strong BO (it was hot and the outfits they wear-no thank you). There were too many bare feet, and some of the people were clearly very comfortable with their bodies (more power to them), however, it just made me super uncomfortable. If you are a renaissance person, definitely check it out. I heard a positive about it, was that it is way less muddy then the Minnesota RenFest. Which, if I had experienced that one, I would have definitely been a negative for me. So, go and enjoy, or don't go, either way do you!

Wow. What a great experience this Faire provides. Run entirely by volunteers, it's truly a labor of…read morelove. If you're looking for a big Faire like Minnesota or Bristol, this is not like those. It's very intimate and, most importantly, AFFORDABLE! For example, at Bristol, a turkey leg costs $9. At Ren in the Glen it's only $4. Tickets at the gate are just $10, not $30. You can even bring your dog with proper documentation of shots. The performers are all very approachable and eager to interact with guests. The Royal Court is very adept in their roles and clearly love what they do. And the Vikings are so into what they do they cook over an open fire and actually sleep in their encampment tents! The only thing that would make Ren in the Glen better is if it were longer. One weekend a year is fine but TWO would be better!!

The tour guides will tell you about the two houses built before the one that currently stands. The families that owned these houses helped form the midwest to be what it is today--something I never would have even imagined if I hadn't come here. Some of the wealthiest people in 1800s America lived in Menomonie. I'm taking away one star because I can't imagine that the tour would be quite as fascinating without my art history professor there, but it would be pretty close. This is a must-visit if you're going to be in the area!

Cassie is amazing at what she does!! She asked that I put together a Pinterest board on what I would like my Engagement photos to look like. This included type of poses, lighting, scenery and basically anything else you could think of. Before we met she reviewed my Pinterest board and made sure to capture everything I was wanting. Through out the photo shoot she made sure to ask me if she was capturing the type of photos I wanted as well. She is very good at directing you for all pictures and makes everything very easy. The whole time myself and my fiancé were not stressed and had a good time. My fiancé and I had a couple ideas on what we wanted to capture and she was more then willing to make sure we got what we wanted. The photo session lasted a little over an hour and that included 3 different outfits and 6+ different backgrounds. She captured a ton of great photos and also does great work of photo editing if needed.
