The staff were super friendly - green fees were under $20 for 9 holes, and the driving range was an added bonus (only $3 for a bucket!) I'll be heading back the next sunny day - with kids to hit a few buckets. Manager told me he is hoping to have a kids golf "Academy" soon. Limited supply of rental clubs, so bring your own if you have them. There is a nice patio, and BBQ facilities available, but no kitchen yet (just soft drinks, chips etc...) Manager said there will be beer and wine available soon. Really close to Saratoga Beach and the wonderful Oyster River trails. There were only a few golfers out, even though it was a really nice afternoon. Possibly no one knows this course has opened up - so enjoy having a "private" course while you can - once word gets out I'm sure it will get a lot busier.

It gets "easier" knowing the course. First game out is the biggest challenge. Lots of water on some holes, narrow fairways on all, and some strategically placed sand traps in the way or even a low rock wall in front of the par 3, 17th hole. The back nine are so far back in forest that there is sweet, perfect silence, unless a foursome nearby is loud. Fairways are well trimmed, rough is thick, sticky grass and the greens are perfectly manicured and fast. The closest in design and conditions is Olympic View, but Storey Creek is flatter. Staff in the pro shop are super friendly. The Creekside Cafe offers yummy self serve or table serve meals, either inside with a big TV on Golf Channel, or outside patio amongst the extensive herb garden that surrounds. This time we had the special: Denver sandwich on artisan bread with the clam chowder ($9.95). The sandwich was thick with chopped ham and egg filling. Though we don't think it was house made, the chowder was thick and hearty with more clam meat than expected. All in all, a good protein and carbo lunch that sustained through the whole game. Great, friendly table service. There is a driving range. And beverage cart on course. Watch for huge ravens, cute deer, native plant garden features, bald eagles and bear scat in the OB. Much more pleasurable and helpful to the game to walk the course.

It was not until later, when I stop by the Pro Shop to ask about the practice facility, when I was asked, when are you playing! I stated Friday, (tomorrow) at 1:09, he said "no you are not! course is closed for a tournament!". I said we confirmed one hour ago! He responsed again the course is closed! well have to try and get you another day, that's it! Return to the front desk, they stated it shows our Tee time, but the Pro shop has the final say! They would look into it! Checked out the next morning with still no response. We cancelled the addition night( hopefully get it refunded). We left! TERRIBLE! Wings were on for $.50 which is a little more than I'm use to paying for a wing night, but it's on par for the island. I tried three different flavors, honey garlic, salt and pepper, and cajun. The honey garlic and cajun blew me away. Some of the better wings I've ever had. The salt and pepper were well done, but were standard. They earned their 5 stars with the wings though, well breaded (maybe a tad bit more than I like, but that's personal preference and not a flaw), and they were big wings! Full sized wings even, not the cheap ones you usually get! Wow. Can't wait to come back here.

And for the 19th hole: The clubhouse restaurant . . . . The crab cakes appetizer was two cakes served with adequate but commercial salsa and tartar sauce. Nicely presented and prepared cakes, but tasted and looked like canned, shredded soft shell crab was used, not local Dungeness crab. My partner ordered the velvet oysters appy, and found the sauce was rich and tasty. Oysters inconsistent - one dry and chewy, the others OK and moist. The West Coast Salad main was plentiful in mixed salad greens with a lemon-based dressing, with 3 prawns and lox salmon accent. Same style crab cakes were served on the Crab Cake Salad, with 3 prawns and mixed greens, some of them wilted. The view from the deck to the 1st and 9th golf greens was beautiful. The service was inconsistent - had to go inside the restaurant twice to request service after a patient wait. The menus provided were subsequently replaced with the "correct" menus. The salads came out as we were still eating our appys. The golf course carries the rating, and is worth a visit . . .

The course is deceptively challenging…read more There is not an alwful lot of elevation change, but the fairways are a bit undulating so you get an uneven lie, and depending on how they cut the rough, it can be punishing to hack out of it. They can also let the fescue grow, making it even more punishing. This is a tougher course than what it appears to be.
