    The bamboo suite

Very funky, modern hotel at a great location, right where the Lanes meet the North Lane, so you are a short walk to the main shopping and restaurant areas either direction. The front desk people are very helpful and smart. After seeing our room, my boyfriend wasn't happy about the color scheme. Right, you need to know that each of the 3 levels has its own color scheme and all rooms on that level have the same colored drapes and and blinds with some buddha on them to create the mood. We tried to change to a different colored room, but the lady at the front desk said that for 60 pound more, she could upgrade us to a suite. She took us up there to check out the room and successfully up-sold us the suite. And I am glad she did so, because the suite was much more spacious with a huge round bed and a bathtub. It is well worth the money. Not only do you find alcohol, tea and coffee at the mini-bar, you can also find tooth brush should you be one of those forgetful guests. Oh, speaking of being forgetful, I even got a loaner cellphone charger from the front desk. There is a bar, restaurant and even a cool independent restaurant attached to the hotel. So when you don't feel like being trapped in your room, there are plenty of places to hang out in the hotel.

Bottle is the night-time counterpart to Cup at the MyHotel complex. Where Cup is the daytime coffee place, Bottle is the night-time bar; they even take over the same space. Bottle seems a strange addition, with Merkaba across the hall in the MyHotel, but it seems to get OK business. I assume that Bottle is an attempt to be less chic and expensive than Merkaba, and while it is cheaper, it is still more expensive than a lot in the area. Still, it is a nice little place, if a bit dive-y (for reasons explained below). The MyHotel used to have two food bits run by Aldo Zilli: a cafe and a restaurant, but the scheme didn't work. Now, the hotel has taken over and runs both the cafe and the restaurant (Table), and has made the cafe a bar, Bottle, at night. The prices, I think, are a holdover from when Aldo Zilli was around: very high indeed! However, price isn't everything, and Bottle does offer a pleasant mixture of booze and music: like so many bars in the area. It is a little out of the way; Jubilee Street is a bit of a dead zone past 5, and I'm sure Bottle suffers for it. Also, with little advertising or flashing lights drawing you in, it does often seem closed, and with Merkaba next door, it would do well to be a more attractive prospect from the outside. Inside, Bottle suffers from being a cafe in the daytime: the arrangement is more high tables and chairs than couches, and it doesn't lend itself to the bar environment. Also, the lighting is very dim, possibly to detract from the bar atmosphere: it feels a bit like a dive because of this. I'd recommend giving Bottle a try, but I doubt you'll love it. Merkaba, literally across the entrance hall, is lovely for most of what Bottle offers, although it is much more pricey, but then again Bottle is almost dingy, while Merkaba is bright and alive. Take your pick!

    a. Location and Surroundings - This is certainly not a 4 star hotel, the best part is only its location - which is also not at the beach. The good part is the nearby restaurants and pubs which you can just walk to. They also have an Indian restaurant right downstairs. b. Facilities - I got this hotel with a priceline deal, so I was happy as it seemed expensive and updated - turned out just pretentious and quirky. Which four star hotel does not have a pool, gym, spa, included breakfast or even decent wifi? Myhotel is the answer. Wifi was restricted to devices (sucks) and slow. They asked us to go use the public pool & gym down the road. Parking was a whopping 25GBP per day. c. Room - Size of room and bed were decent. No coffee maker or locker in the room. The room décor was very quirky - they tried to go for a modern décor but the orange designs were just creepy. There is absolutely no privacy. If you open the window, the glass window was see through, so were the bathroom and toilet glass doors? We went with a group of friends d. Service - They were pretty rude when I requested an extra mattress or bed - we had 5 people and wanted to stay in 2 rooms (not leaving a friend alone) - but they were very strict and refused outright. When I asked to pay, they offered me a room at 350GBP - which was higher than my entire prepaid booking of USD 270. The reception staff seemed Russian or Eastern European (nothing against them) but they were curt and not courteous at all. I would never come back or recommend.

Really trendy modern hotel, very quirky bathrooms (make sure your comfortable with your roomie) great location! Middle of everything, short walk to pier, shops. pub and restaurants on your door step. Staff friendly and helpful.

There's no doubt about it, this place is seriously cool. Walking into the hotel lobby from North Laine is a bizarre experience like stepping from the epitome of Brighton into something completely different that feels like it would belong far better in the centre of London. That's not to say I don't love it, because I do. Strangely enough, I'd never set foot in here before last week. I wasn't sure that just wandering into a hotel lobby was entirely acceptable. That was until I discovered the insanely cool bar at the back. Oh my goodness, it's brilliant. On each of the far walls there are two gorgeous fish tanks, while images of fish are displayed on the plasma screens over the steel bar. The place seems kind of space-age, with soft curves of metal and high-legged chairs lining the central seating area. It feels nothing like the homely, traditional pubs I tend to frequent and hey, I think it's time for a change of scenery every now and again! Drinks prices are slightly shocking, but everyone's got to indulge once in a while. Especially when it comes to cocktails. I may be giving a slightly biased review in that the only room I've set foot in is the 'Carousel' penthouse suite, which at £450 per night you'd have to have some mega bucks to consider staying in. You can get a week in Florida, flights and all, for that kind of money (believe me, I've checked). But who am I kidding? If I had the money I'd definitely stay here. Probably once a week. The decor is very bachelor-padesque: leather chairs, animal print ottomans, an enormous plasma screen TV, blacks, browns and deep reds. But this is softened by the addition of a beautiful antique rocking horse (which you aren't actually allowed to touch), silks, velvet and beautiful balls of crystal topping the roofless four-poster bed. The bathroom area contains a stunning free-standing bath and is seductively curtained off with a red, semi-sheer curtain. As if that wasn't enough, there's also your own personal steam room. Utterly divine. Now, where's my lottery win so I can move in?

My wife loved the window seat

Found this hotel on the Internet and was intrigued by the eclectic rooms and decor. I was very pleased upon arrival. Staff were very helpful, attentive and courteous. Our room was very bright and clean. We had a view of the open square beside the hotel that was great for people watching. The hotel has a great location, close the many great bars, restaurants, tourist attractions and and entertainment venues. The continental breakfast is quite good as well. There are two restaurants right in the same building which are both quite nice as well. Highly recommend this one

We drove past the building the first time. It is a miserable grey looking building and it just moulds into the local scenery because all the nearby buildings look the same. Check-in is as 3pm and you cannot gain access any earlier. We were early so we paid and displayed in their car park which was a reasonable £5 for four hours and asked at reception for directions into town. We were quoted a 20 minute walk. It was nearer to 35 minutes in reality. When we returned to the Travelodge there was a queue of people waiting to be served but it was all amicable and didn't take long for the reception staff to shift the queue. There is an ice cream vending machine in the reception area. Check-in was quick and easy. We were issued door cards and went to our room. We took the stairs to the first floor. The stair walls were heavily marked but not dirty. The bedroom was a good size. The floor was clean, the bin empty. There were enough towels and toilet rolls. The only real complaint we had about the room was that the toilet had not been cleaned and the previous guest had left us a sizable present. The toilet bin lid appeared to have faeces on it. The shower curtain was yellowing and there was mould along the bottom of the curtain and in the shower grout. The bed was clean and smelt freshly bleached. We voiced our concerns about the dirty toilet as we were leaving for the wedding reception and the young man who helped us was so helpful he was going to give us a new room. We were in a rush so we asked him to get someone to just clean it instead. It was sparkling when we returned. When we returned, we ordered a nightcap from the bar. Unfortunately they could only take card payments because they didn't have enough change in the till. I'd thought that was kind of a given basic in retail, but we paid by card. We sat in the lounge area with the hard no-thrills sofas. They had the footy on in the corner. It was warm. This Travelodge isn't too far from a railway line where the trains rumble past quite frequently. The last one i heard was at half one in the morning and they were still passing at half six, roughly every twenty minutes. For breakfast, we took the lift down. There are two lifts, both are small (hold 8 small people each) and were really dirty and smelt a bit. We were greeted by the kitchen staff when we entered the lounge for breakfast. That was nice. Items available were a range of boxed cereals, milk, croissants, toast, muffins, a range of spreads, yoghurts and sausages, bacon, tomatoes, egg and beans. The cooked foods were all tasty, except for the scrambled egg, which had no flavour at all. Tea, coffee and juices were also available. You'll need to get down there within half an hour of it opening as seating is limited. There is also a free pay phone for the use of calling taxi's which everyone in Brighton seems to do as the fares are so cheap! The staff were very helpful. Check out was a doddle you just hand your door cards back in at receptions and that's it you're free to go:)

There's only 43 rooms including 3 loft suites but we're talking deep, roll top baths, comfy, handsprung beds and incredibly Egyptian cotton bedding. If you can bear to leave your room and venture out, there's lovely courtyard areas and a reception room where you can curl up with a newspaper and glass of wine. Which reminds me, the wine and cocktail list at Hotel Du Vin is second to none. I could drink here every day and I don't think I'd be served anything I didn't love! I've yet to eat in the Bistro but a couple of neighbours have been and all raved about it. There's also spa and massage treatments available and live jazz on the first and third Sunday of the month. Everything here is to the highest quality, from the amazing restaurant/gastro-pub/bistro to the rooms themselves. Everything here is to a truly high standard, but massively overpriced, losing Hotel du Vin the five star rating it truly deserves. I didn't realise Hotel du Vin was a boutique chain until recently: having only noticed it in Brighton, I assumed it was another of these ridiculously expensive, privately run hotels that dot the Brighton seafront between the two piers. It certainly seems that way from the outside, as the decor and set-up is professional yet quirky: an old fashioned thatch sandwiched between two tall towers. This charming eccentricity extends indoors as well: the rooms are designed in a casually peculiar way, often mixing epochs and colours for some... interesting results! However, under this there are all the signs of a well-run, professional business. The bistro bar/restaurant serves absolutely excellent food, and the wine and cocktail list is impressively long. The spa treatments on offer, while expensive, are apparently very nice, and there's even a rentable beach hut. Nothing has been skimped on here. All of this does come at a price, and it's a rather hefty one at that. Everything is quite simply too expensive: a common Brighton issue, but the prices here are so astronomical that they blow a lot of the town's other price-hikers out of the water. I suppose what is on offer is of the finest quality, but it is all excessively rich. I suppose Hotel du Vin are trying to attract a certain type of clientele... and if you sit in the lobby for long enough, you will see some faces you recognise! While Hotel du Vin is a lovely experience, be it to stay or have a meal or treat yourself to a massage, but make sure you're bringing plenty of cash with you!

Having a really nice room to hang out in meant we didn't feel like we needed to be out and about all the time, and I can highly recommend the four poster room with its super comfy bed and sofa, perfect for reclining on and watching a movie (a DVD library in the breakfast room helped with this also).
