Myer Hobart, formerly the historic Brownells store on Liverpool Street, has been a central retail hub for decades since its acquisition by Myer in 1959. After a devastating fire destroyed the original building in 2007, the store underwent a major reconstruction, reopening in 2015 as a modern, multi-level facility in the heart of the CBD.
While department stores a bit of a dying breed in the USA, they're still around in the cities I visited in Australia. Hobart was no exception as I took a stroll through the multiple floors of the Myer Department Store during a recent visit.
The placement of the escalators was a little confusing, but I did find as I took the elevator to the top and walked down. I was looking for stationary, travel things, and maybe a nice shirt. Store staff were well dressed and professional. Decor-wise, things seemed a little plain, albeit functional, clean, well stocked, and easy to maneuver. read more
