Called to inquire about help with my tax preparation. Spoke to a receptionist or a secretary or an office worker. When I asked if I could meet with an accountant, I was told that I'd have to pay a $100.00 consultation fee that would NOT count towards my final charges for the preparation. When I asked how much it would cost to prepare my taxes, she told me I could go over that when I met with the accountant and to bring all my tax stuff with me to the consultation. So bottom line is I have to pay this company $100.00 to 1. Tell me if they can even do my taxes and 2. Tell me how much it's gonna cost to prepare my taxes? I called the number provided a week or two ago, hoping to get tax help while benefiting a small business. It was very easy to set up a consult appointment ($95) with Mr. Hord via Zoom. Reminder texts and emails with the information were super convenient and Mr. Hord was punctual and very friendly. He was able to answer all of my questions, and was very specific with forms and where to find them. Mytaxguy filed my taxes for 2018. All said and done: my taxes are filed and I can sleep without having to worry about IRS. However, having gone through the experience and paid ~$500 in services, I wish I had done this on my own via TurboTax, as I have for the past 5yrs. Multiple reasons why I say this: (1) I had to keep following up with them to ask about the different forms I thought I needed to fill based on our in-person convo. When they finally responded, it was snarky: "check the online portal. we've uploaded it all there." But they hadn't. (2) They charged me more than they said they would during the in-person meeting. They said that the first meeting (~$80 or so) would count towards the overall fee. In the first invoice, it wasn't accounted for. When I pointed it out, they reduced the fee. And then adjusted it back. I had to take screenshots to point out the discrepancies in the amount I owed to make them realize they were trying to rip me off intentionally or unintentionally. And then I had to ask them to file my out of state taxes, which they completely missed somehow. Of course, they charged me to file the out-of-state taxes -- which makes sense! However, it wasn't a pleasant experience for me because it should've been a part of the initial quote given to me. (3) I paid them for just filing taxes -- there's little to no advice on managing for filing taxes. I just started a LLC and thought it would be good to have a tax-person who can give me some advise and then file my taxes. All they did was file. I had to do the work of manually entering all my expenses, figuring out the right way to account for company expenses vs. personal expenses vs. company income vs. company expenses. I might as well have used TurboTax. Disappointed in this service and don't think I'd use them again. read more

Results vary drastically from year to year, as do attitudes and professionalism. I would hire at your own risk. I think you'd be ok utilizing this company for tax prep services ONLY in Texas. In fact, had a great experience with Doug and team for the first year and half of help from them. When we moved to Indiana, we asked Doug if he could handle our taxes and he said yes. This did not prove to be true. He did not have local knowledge on certain tax rules, which resulted in higher taxes in 2018 than necessary. Then, it all went to sh*t. Got our 2019 taxes and there were multiple, very material mistakes (e.g. entire 1099 results omitted, calculations incorrect, etc). I could not get Greg or Doug to respond to my concerns and ultimately had to hire another local professional for a last minute redo because we could not get Doug's team to respond. This means we paid (quite a bit) to two tax teams. During the transition to our local Indiana team, Doug's email responses were unprofessional, petty and flat out rude. I was honestly shocked because he had previously been so nice and professional. I asked Doug for a refund since it doesn't seem fair to pay him when the returns couldn't be used, which he said he would provide it. Had this been sent to us as agreed, that would have been the end of it and I would not be writing this review. It's been almost three months since he committed to sending that check and multiple emails since he said it was "in the mail". He has since stopped responding to my emails asking about the status of that refund check, so I can only assume he committed to refunding me (the right thing to do) and then changed his mind. I was very displeased when I sent an email to ask a question and the way they answered my question was as if you where stupid. If I could give them no stars, I would. *In response to the owner's response: You were going to have two clients, I know you clearly don't care. I know you cannot give a clear price, I respect your job, we were never trying to ask you for a discount, and my friend never called you in separate phone calls to ask for a price. We simply wanted a estimate on how much you charged. So we can be prepared with that money on our appointment. If you were not able to give us an estimate, you could of nicely said, " this is not a definite price, it could change depending on your case." I would of understood and made the decision then. This year they were in a new location on Shepherd and the new office is great. They had much better parking and they were so much brighter and welcoming. I went in to drop off my forms and was really impressed when they handed me a tablet to check in and confirm my information, like at my doctor's office. They immediately scanned my forms and handed them back. I was advised I needed to get the new insurance form, but instead of bringing it by or emailing it, I should instead upload it to their new secure portal.
