This food was crazy delicious.
My family and I, along with my sister-in-law and best friend, had a one night stay in Munich. We left our hotel around seven and looked for a place to eat. Lowenbrau was impossible, so we walked down a quiet street and saw that My Tam was open. We're from an area with a large Vietnamese population. So while it felt a bit sacrilege to spend near 10 euro on a bowl of pho (which turned out to be hella big and delivious so therefore well worth it), we decided to try this place out.
It was worth it. The inside is gorgeous. We're used to Vietnamese restaurants with numbered tables, napkins, utensils and sauces set out permanently. I don't believe I've even seen a place with wallpaper, votive candles, cloth napkins and crystal fixtures. The food was plated nicely and garnished with greens and an orchid. As a group we ordered the pho, a couple of bun/vermicelli dishes, a chicken and basil dish, some lycheesaft to drink and the mixed appetizer plate to start. Everything was delicious. The broth in my kids' pho was clear and fragrant. I could taste the anise, cloves and cardamom. My husband and I both agreed that the Bun was some of the best we've had. The appetizer plate was pretty neat, you get portion of shrimp chips with mango salad, spring and summer rolls, bo la lot, and skewered chicken that you heat up in a sterno they light for you.
We've only lived in Germany since May. Es tut mir leid. Meine Deutsch ist nicht sehr gut. But the owner was patient with me and through my awful German and his pretty decent English we were able to get to communicate pretty decently. Service was good, too. We were there for a while, never felt rushed and honestly, the food was timed so well that we didn't even feel like we had been there for that long. We really enjoyed our experience there. It made me nostalgic for California and Hawaii. To be honest, I'm a but bummed that Munich isn't closer. I'd love to go back and make it a regular haunt. read more
