Not sure that Yelp is the best place to review a pre-K, but oh well. We learned about it from the Davidson Institute and read these reviews prior to enrolling 2 kids for a total of 4 years (between 2020 and 2024). It was a great experience for them and us. They ask to go back because they miss the teachers and the school. The children participate in a little bit of "school." So it's probably not a good fit if you expect something else. Yes, there were lots of slides, cars, blocks, games, etc., and lots of laughter, chatting, and imagining. This age group is play-based no matter where you go. That said, there were also thinking games, letters, days of the week, and the like. There's enough structure combined with enough tailoring to kids' interests. Coming to the tables/projector/mats to participate is part of it. Not every kid or family wants that style of participation. But maybe you do. We needed it. It combines an early childhood approach (the spectrum of knowledge) with some Reggio Emilia methods. It's unrelated to the autism spectrum. Judging from the reviews you'd think Dr. D is a witch from Oz. She's from Long Island. We liked her a lot. Jennifer and Jason are kind, smart, and caring people. They supported our potty training, provided lots of updates (pictures on the drive, conferences, emails, calls), and loved the kids. We appreciate you. Thanks for everything. read more

We couldn't be happier with our decision to put our daughter in the hands of My Spectrum. This is our first and only child and we had recently moved to town. We were impressed with the seriousness of everyone involved and started our daughter during summer camp and then into the year. She has made so many improvements socially, with her speaking, and open ended play. She is excited to walk in every day now and comes out every day with a smile and waving by to everyone. The entire staff cares so much, continue their own education/expertise, and regularly uploads photos through the weeks to see how much fun the kids are having. The transition in the beginning was hard of course, our daughter had only been in our care or a sitter in our house but My Spectrum helped so much and it has been great ever since. I can't imagine a better environment for kids at this age. read more

My spectrum school is by far the best in the entire neighborhood. We send our son here he is in the fours just amazing and simply the best experience with a school just a pleasure to have piece of mind sending your child here. Dr. D and the entire staff here is very well educated and super organized also now with COVID -19 they are super clean and well prepared for your child's safety always ready to educate your child. absolutely awful experience. Teacher & director are both extremely Mean to the kids and the parents! No updates of anything that happens behind closed doors- I made a surprise visit once just an hour after drop off and the kids were watching TV. son came home with diaper rashes multiple times and with poop and pee all over his clothes several times As well. more than 20 kids that are a range of ages with two sometimes three teachers -absolutely horrendous - school needs to be checked on by family services. They make you pay three months in advance so it's very hard to take Child out. don't do it !! now that I share my story a lot of people are telling me about their bad experience as well. One includes being threatened by legal action if she broke her contract cuz her daughter also cried entire time every day. Just don't do it . read more

I strongly disagree with all the bad reviews in previous posts. My experience is absolutely positive about My Spectrum. Our 3 year old twin boys have been attending My Spectrum School daily for the past two years. We couldn't be happier with the program and the individualized approach that they take with each student, as they make learning exciting and fun. Dr D. , Jason and Ms. Gaby are compassionate and caring teachers whom my kids adore. The special bond that Jason has with students is amazing... he makes science fun for the kids, even for a 3 year old! We were impressed with the overall development of our children including their verbal, spatial, motor and problem solving skills as well as their behavioral development such as sharing, following instructions, and respect foothers. I am looking forward to our children continuing their education and development at my Spectrum School. read more

Please avoid this place at all cost! My daughter was physically and psychologically abused by the founder and director Dr. D. I won't go into details because the thought of my daughter being abused by the hands of the person that suppose to be caring for her is disheartening and makes me absolutely sick and furious. But if I can prevent someone else's child from experiencing such anguish, torment and misery, thn this review is worth my time. My daughter is extremely verbal and was able to explain in detail the trauma that was caused upon her, while reiterating how Dr. D was mean, scary and hurtful. She's currently seeing a therapist with hopes to undo the damage that was done. I also recorded the sporadic moments my daughter would speak about the abuse caused by Dr.D. Til this day, my daughter randomly mentions the abuse. Oh and yes, I confronted Dr. D, I also have that on video. Overall please consider my review and your child's safety if you are considering My Spectrum School as a daycare/summer school option for your family. read more

"Dr. Linda" was awful and very judgmental! She would talk badly about other kids who wouldn't go to my spectrum school in a way that she would not respect those families who don't own multi-million dollars houses! She said that she wasn't there for money which was completely a lie - if she didn't want money, why would she took thousand dollars of deposits and wouldn't refund if you noticed her many months prior to starting school? The school is so big but only few children in each class. You should think about "why". If they do provide the education or care that they say they do - they should have attracted more kids, but they don't. Please do yourself a favor and DON'T send your kids to my spectrum school. read more

I could not disagree more with the previous post. We've had only excellent experiences at Spectrum under the direction of Dr. D (Linda) -btw she's never asked me to call her anything, it's been Linda, Dr D and many other variations and she's never minded either way.) Our now five-year-old son started coming here the summer before last at the recommendation of a trusted family friend. He went for camp and then proceeded to go after school twice a week during the school year. Now he's in kindergarten and he goes one afternoon after school. He ADORES it and has asked me repeatedly to go more than one day a week. He went to the special Veterans Day Stem workshop today (and made a hovercraft!) and didn't want to leave. Linda cares about the children and their welfare and education very deeply and perhaps her passion can be mistaken as being offputting, but she loves these kids and want only the best for them. I've never hesitated to leave my son in her hands and he's never come back with anything less than glowing reviews for his day. He has started telling me about things like anatomy, chemistry and physics (among many other topics) which which most kindergartners have never even heard of, much less started to learn. She and Jason, one of her main teachers, make the school a wonderful experience. I assure you that Linda is a lovely and warm woman who has only the best intentions for your children. I feel very close to her now and I'm so incredibly grateful that my son has been given the gift of learning to love science, math, the arts and engineering as he has at Spectrum. He's five years old and has started to learn how to code. If that's not enough I'm not sure what else to say. I strongly encourage you to give your child the experience of My Spectrum School. read more

We are so happy with our daughter's education at the My Spectrum School. She has been there almost a year and her vocabulary is off the charts! She knows her letters and numbers and loves Dr. D, Gabby and Jason, her teachers. The facility itself is much larger than most in the area and filled with so many fun and creative things to play with and learn about! She is so excited to move from 3 days/week to 5 next year! Everything that was mentioned in Laura C's review confirms our continued concerns about our son's experience at Spectrum, concluding with "Dr. Linda" (who DID demand that everyone, including parents, call her that) refusing to refund or defer payments we made when my son required surgery that kept him from attending 2 weeks that we previously paid for. Our son is someone who, if not asked repeatedly to do something, is perfectly content sitting in a corner, alone, reading or doing whatever he wants to do at that moment. He often does not seek interaction unless prompted to do so. With literally every other school and program he has been involved with, aside from Spectrum, we have been advised that the issues he has at home that my wife and I both see present themselves at school as well. However, at Spectrum, whenever myself or my wife came to pick him up, we were told that he did "great" and there was always a project that I know my son did not complete. Perhaps he did something rudimentary, but there was simply no way he did that - and this happened every week. It was as if they needed something tangible to prove to us that he was doing "great" and that he built something. Some days, I'd show up and they would be watching a movie. There was no understanding of exactly what was going on there, and my son - while very expressive on everything else he does - could not provide any explanation of what he did between the time we left him there and when we picked him up. To the point made by Laura C. about "no mommies," Dr. Linda was cold with both my wife and my son's twice-per-week caretaker in terms of leaving immediately on several occasions. This was all brought to a head when we paid for the last 2 weeks of camp this summer, but about a month later, my son required surgery that had to be scheduled during those 2 weeks. We called "Dr. Linda" to advise her that we would need to be refunded the tuition, stating that it was unforeseeable, and that we had paid in full and in advance for over a year. Her first response had no mention of my son's surgery, but was that I had called her during business hours (during which I advised the person who took the call that I knew it was during school hours, and she could call me back after school was over) and it took away from her "primary interest" of the children. Further, she said she prefers to respond by email, not a phone call. I responded by email, stating that it was odd and a bit ridiculous that she effectively stated that she did not return phone calls to parents of the children at the school, and reinterating our need for a refund. Her emailed response was simply "we don't give refunds." I asked again, and again, and her responses ranged from "that is our policy" to stating that the "Board" (which I can only assume is just Linda) would allow him to attend alternate weeks, which I told her was not an option prior. I told her that she was making a larger issue out of something that seemed so simple - my son needs surgery, we can't attend, we're paying customers, and it's just good business. I just had no idea why she simply wouldn't do the right thing. It was approximately $1K, which remains lost because we literally could not send him since he had to have the surgery. That, plus all of the other mitigating factors described above, require me to strongly warn all other parents considering Spectrum to look for alternative programs for their gifted children. There are others nearby. Don't settle on this one. read more

Oh my god where do I start. Hmm. Firstly, do NOT send your kids here. Secondly, do yourself a favor and bring your children to a school where "Dr." Linda isn't. She is so awful and I doubt that she took her doctorate education seriously as she is not fit for child education/care. Must be a slip through the cracks. I read the previous reviews but decided to go there with an open mind, as my children are usually very adaptive, easy going, and find fun in everything. Well, it seems that My Spectrum School really takes the life out of children (as also stated in previous reviews). My children would come back so depressed and getting them there the next morning was next to impossible. There were many times at work where I would sit in guilt knowing that my children weren't happy where they were at that very moment. I assume that most people reading these reviews are parents...so from parent to parent, do not send your children here. They deserve better! read more

I'm only giving it one star because I don't have the choice to give it zero. Worst experience ever. I signed up my son at the recommendation of a friend. I paid for three weeks in full. Big mistake. My son hated it from day one. I figured it's new, he'll get used to it. He didn't. He had anxiety in the mornings before going to the point that he wouldn't eat breakfast. He would just cry saying he wanted me to stay with him there the whole time. Then at dinner time if I mentioned camp he would stop eating and start crying again saying he didn't want to go. He never talked about camp which was unusual because he always talked about his regular school, about his teachers, classmates, art projects, etc. Every Time I asked him about camp he would shut down and say he didn't want to go. I asked the director Linda (who made it very clear on multiple occasions that it's Dr. Linda, that she has a Ph.D. In child education blah blah blah) how he was doing and she kept saying great! That once we left he was great and opened up and was "progressing." I actually waited in the car outside a few times that week to check and my son seemed depressed the whole time he was outside. He would just sit there and not talk and not play. Very unlike him. Then the last day I decided to go with him earlier and have breakfast with him inside the little kitchen area. At first Linda said I should just leave and I said it was important for me for my son to trust me since he don't eat any breakfast and I told him I would sit with him inside for a bit. As we were eating before any other children had come by, Linda came in the room and my son grabbed me and asked me to stay with him the whole day. Then Linda, with the meanest attitude said to him "Mommies can't stay. You know that!" I convinced my son to stay for a little bit and went back after an hour to pick him up. Linda told me he was great! I peeked thru the window and noticed he was just sitting in a chair with his head down without moving or saying anything. I picked him up and left and Linda made sure to show me all the drawings he did which clearly were made by an adult because I couldn't have done them myself if I tried. We called Linda a few times and ended up emailing her telling her that our sons behavior wasn't normal and that that he had severe anxiety about camp so we had decided to take him out. She wrote back saying she consulted with the teachers and they all agreed he was "progressing" and that it was in my son's best interest to keep him there. I told her once again we were not going to subject him to an awful experience. Camp should be fun, not torture. We asked her how to get a refund for the two weeks left. She proceeded to say that it was non refundable and we never received our money back. I was very frustrated but the money was the least frustrating part. I rather lose the money than send my son there ever again. Two other things: They said the provide snacks for the kids. If I hadn't send my son with a snack he wouldn't have had anything to eat because the fridge and cabinets in the kitchen were full of kids lunch boxes with names be no snacks to pass around. Also, they didn't ask for me to put sunblock or to send sunblock and my son returned home with red cheeks from being out in the yard in 95 degree weather. I strongly urge you to not send your children here. I should have listened to my gut and taken him out the first day instead of sending him the four days I did. After I told him camp was over he asked me almost everyday for a week if he has camp almost sobbing and as soon as I said no he started clapping and laughing. He immediately started talking about going back to school at St. Peter's and talking about his teachers. Again, find another camp because I sure will not send him here ever again. read more
