Both times I've been here, the people here behind the counter have been impatient and rude. They were not helpful in a transition coming from outside the state, informing me about certain Maryland requirements and laws. Because of this, I had to pay a fine for not following a correct time line of services. read more

We had a wonderful Monday morning experience at the Frederick DMV. We made an appointment and showed up a half hour early and they took us within minutes. Everyone and I mean everyone was friendly and helpful. A man named Rory was particularly helpful. People need to appreciate these hardworking people who have a challenging job day after day and come to work with a smile and positive attitude. read more

They hire driving instructors who are rude and loud and scream at the parents. I had to file a complaint today because of the instructor my son had today. After waiting an hour and a half past our schedule time, I got a text saying report to counter S A. Like I know what that meant so I ran inside real quick to find out they said no that means instructors coming so I'm getting to the car and I see the instructor walking away and I said ma'am, are you looking for this car and she screamed at me get in the car. These people should not be around kids. This is the second time it happened same person. read more

I was very impressed. This is the first time I've been to any MVA and was out in a matter of minutes. in the past, it has been hours to just renew a license for to get some type of admin work done, but that was not the case I had an appointment and my appointment time was honored which I really appreciate. The representative was very helpful and answered my questions and even had a sense of humor. The individual I worked with was still in training. I thought it was very nice that the MVA supplied him with a signed to let people know to be patient because he was still training. However he did a great job there's ample parking and tons of signage to point you in the right direction. The MV is not somewhere we go on every day basis so the times that we go it's nice to have an environment that is welcoming efficient. read more

Made 2 appointments back-to-back as we had a number of things to take care of after the death of my dear mother, a little over a month ago and did not want to overwhelm someone at the MVA with the 15 minutes allotted per visit. Greeter was nice and helpful. Text to check in was great. Wait was short. The problem was that Sarah taking care of #C56 at Desk 11 at 11:00AM today, 5/22 hates her job and hates dealing with people. We took one step at a time and told her what we needed to do. We asked her questions and she was snarky with each answer given. I told her I've never done this before, please bear with me (son and husband were with me also). Her responses, I don't know and can't answer your questions until I look at your paperwork. I asked do I only fill out the pink sections, she said, you fill out the whole section that pertains to you it's not only pink. As I type this, it sounds like a good conversation, but the snarkiness and ho-hum, I know more than you, you should know already how to do this before you come to me, rolling your eyes attitude got to me. The last thing I wanted to do was transfer my mothers pride and joy car title. I tried to be nice. I ended up telling miserable Sarah that she was very rude and that she needed to learn compassion. I asked if she saw the document in her hand (my mom's death certificate) and she said "so, I've lost people too". Again, I got up and told her to learn some compassion and walked away. Lord help me! Looking for peace and understanding right now, not this. I'm sure she deals with crappy people too but, damn, I didn't give her the reason to be nasty to us. If you must go into Frederick MD MVA, look for Sarah and give her the hug I was unable to provide! read more

Went here to take my permit test. Arrived, checked in, and sat down. Then, they called me to counter 7, where I met, I guess an old Indian man with glasses. But the minute I got there, I just could tell by the look on his face that he was racist. But I didn't think too much about it, until words started coming out of his mouth. When he asked about my paperwork, I showed it to him. However, I did a slight mistake when showing him my paperwork, that I hadn't noticed. It wasn't anything bad, though. But he started to shake his head and repeat "no". I didn't know what he was saying no to, until he spots my mistake. I apologized; however, he was so rude. He was very arrogant and very rude. He called an old white woman with glasses, which I didn't understand why he did so. However, she said the same thing as him. They couldn't bother to say "I'm sorry but unfortunately, we cannot continue the process because of this mistake, very sorry". They were both rude and couldn't bother to be nice or care. If you come here, and you get this man on counter 7, please ask to switch your counter if possible. read more

This is probably the absolute worst place to spend the day, though I do have to say that I was helped by a gentleman named Phil who would extremely patient and assisted me with my needs. If it wasn't for Phil, my rating would have been one start, but he really stepped in and made all of the difference. Now I will not take anything away from anyone and I know that there are other agents that are very capable of the same service. Unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to experience that level of service yet. I will update when I get a chance. However, I would like to see Phil recognized for his outstanding customer service skills here at the Frederick MVA. read more

Wish I could give them ZERO stars! Went in to renew my license... at 10:40 am today. Received my number at 11:00 am, so far so good... I am not seen until 3:18 pm! Almost 4 hours and 40 minutes! Oh... it gets worse... I get back to my vehicle, and go to return my vehicle registration to the glove box (I had used it as proof of address)... it is missing from the packet of paperwork!!!! Uggh! So... back into the MVA... they cannot find it... seriously? They just scanned it 3 minutes earlier! Into another line... so they can print out a new one. I complain to the supervisor about the long wait time. Response, "you should have made an appointment online, they get priority." My answer, "I tried, but decided I did not wish to place my entire social security number online just for an appointment." Which was required. Nightmare!!! read more

Went there for my permit and everyone was friendly, and even though I made a mistake signing up, I was still able to take the test.

The staff behind the desk were wounderful, but Bob the driver examiner was the worst! He couldnt tell if the headlight were on ( New led lights and headlight assembly ) he was playing simple simon withe the turn signals and hazards ( back and forth ). He told my 16 yr old daughter that he didnt want to be recorded so he unpluged my dash cam and for good measure all my usb cables. When he fail my daughter for driving to fast ( I know she didnt- Perhaps his old age ) and yelled at her ( Made her cry ). I called the MVA to see if this was a policy ( It was not ) they said they would call me back to have someone speak to me. They never called me back so here is their review. I will be going back to the MVA this week and file a complaint on this BoB Character. Hint he looks like Colonel Sanders without the beard. This is a public service facility and any 1st Amendment audit is encourage. read more

This feedback will be insightful as possible. I went two times, and the ladies were not helpful or willing to be useful. The first time I went, the representative told me that I needed to show every document printed that they do not accept digital. So, I asked her if the billing utility on my husband's name could work since I have the leasing contract with his name as well, and I haven't had anything on my name yet. She said, "yes." The second time and this experience were disrespectful. I brought all of the things needed, and the lady patronized me after I told her the billing utility was in my husband's name, but I have the proof of the leasing contract that we live at the same address. She pointed her finger to me to tell me, "this is not about your husband, it is about you, and we need something to verify is your address". I looked at her confused, because why in this world I will bring a document with someone else name on it if I didn't live in the same house? She did not want to help me at all, even though I said to her I had everything else. I moved from Round Rock, Texas, and the experience there was 5 stars. The lady in Texas was helpful and understanding, which gives you peace of mind when you move, not feeling that you have a squeeze your time to make the change on time. Terrible experience. The government should improve CX and aligned programs in the same state. read more

What can I say? It is the MVA. Made an appointment, then stood in line to get in... then stood in line to get a number.... then sit and waited and waited and waited to be called. If you have to go to MVA here in Maryland, use the full service center in Frederick Maryland. As long time resident the Maryland MVA, especially Glen Burnie, is known for poor customer service, long wait times, hours upon hours waiting for your number to be called, ony to find that you didnt bring the correct paperwork. Well today I came prepared having pre-arranged my appointment with the MVA central customer service center in Cumberland Maryland and receiving text and emal confirmation of same. Pro-Tip, Mayland MVA is appointment only now and they check at the door for appointment confirmations, so you need to show email, text or other visual information to get in. Even with the appointment confirmation and text of same, the MVA door checker wasnt able to find my information nor was the representative who hands out the alpha numeric tickets showing where to sit and wait. Fotunately with the text confirmation, the MVA had no choice but to give me a place in line attributing the miscommunication to techical difficulties. Also dont expect to see or conduct MVA business at the scheduled time of your appointent. The appointment time is only when you are scheduled to arrive and get in line. The actual time to meet and conduct business is much later like two hours later.. There are some walk-in services that MVA handles relatively fast like tag turn ins but most MVA license/registration related stuff (involving paper records) takes individual attention and you have to see an MVA person for that which means there is wait. Pro-Tip its not worth rushing to be on time for the appointment, because its basically a place holder. Fast forwarding to the actual service, the MVA reps are knowledgeable and empowered to work magic with your license with a stroke of the keyboard on the MVA network. Of course theres usually a fee to the state, that is more costly every year, to go along with whatever service is provided but its better than going without valid documents.. Lastly, Maryland MVA has wised up and gives the option to not wear masks. Nice of the State to acknowledge reality. In summation the Frederick Maryland MVA is helpful and friendly and big improvement over the conglomerate in Glen Burnie. Give them a try. read more

Another day, another trip to the MVA. This time I went to the Frederick County location, just to change things up a little bit and because I know live in the county. The mission today was to get an EZ pass so I can travel along the two toll roads in Maryland with ease. I got seen so fast my ass cheeks barely met the bench. Quick swipe of my license, the pound of flesh that was needed to pay for the transponder and I was on my way with a skip in my step. Only issue is that this branch is far from anything. Convenient for the airport but for anywhere else it's going to be a bit of a trek. read more

Terrible, sad , lazy and unmotivated people work for this establishment. I'm baffled they can wake up every morning and "do" what they do. I am just another victim of a 4 year long waiting period while every other person has been called to a counter and taken care of. I'm not sure how the counting system works for the MVA but I am almost certain it is the worst.. I am truly sorry for anyone who has to deal with the people here. My heart goes out to you because this is the living version of what Hell is. read more

I could not rate it any less. Total incompetence and horrible personnel. It is mind boggling how these people work for the government and manage to be so far behind on everything they do. Well it's still the DMV, or the MVA as you East Coasters call it...so how could it possibly get more than 3 stars. It's a bit west in Frederick, which means that it's a drive. But it also means that it's not nearly as crowded either. If you absolutely have to waste your day at a full service MVA office take the few extra minutes to drive to the Frederick one so you don't have to deal with the crowds. read more

I wish I could give 0 stars but I'm not able to. This MVA is the worst! My son is special needs and had an appointment to take his learners permit test. He was told he would receive accommodations when we got to the MVA. Needless to say, they were not accommodating at all. He received none. I was so embarrassed and appalled how these people can treat someone that needs some help. We waited an hour in the pouring rain and then waited another 30 mins after we got inside. I spoke with a manager (scary that she was a manager) and she was a complete.... not gonna sink to her level.. I then searched and was told Frederick is garbage (duh) so we just got home from Hagerstown!!! He received accommodations and got a 100%!!! These people at Frederick should be ashamed and fired. If you want fast service, not to stand outside for an hour waiting (even when you have an appointment), and the nicest people GO TO HAGERSTOWN!!! read more

GUYS. This is the best DMV ever. I was in and out within 15 minutes for an out of state license renewal. They have an info counter that makes sure you have all your paperwork correct and accounted for BEFORE you even get number to wait in line. So there is ZERO hold up when waiting for the people in front of you. PLUS. I went in on Wednesday... it's Saturday and I just received my new license in the mail. SO FAST. Maryland's licenses however... boy are they ugly... read more

The worst MVA you can possibly go to. I took my significant other there to do his driving test first we were waiting for an hour then all the instructors disappeared without a word when they had a li e of cars waiting to do the driving test. They finally come back and refused to let him do the test because of the fact that the passenger side window of my car wouldn't roll down. An HOUR AND A HALF!!! Now I wouldn't have minded the wait had I been informed that you had to have your car in fucking brand new condition basically to fucking test. Did they tell me that NO! So if you actually wanna be able to take your test or get anything for a new or existing vehicle don't go here. Cuz all they want to do is waste your fucking time. I'm not an angry person and have never left a bad review or said a bad thing but this experience was so enraging... I would give 0 stars if I could read more

Very disorganized and hard to make an appointment as well as the workers looking like they hate their job go anywhere else to get your tags

I had the rudest experience of my life here today. I know that's not saying much -- it's the MVA, what does anyone expect? But if you have any kind of ethnic surname, avoid this place like the plague, especially if it can be construed as Hispanic/Latino. After the guy at the intake desk looked over my paperwork to transfer back to an MD license from a VA license (I moved out of state for 2 years), I had a 90 minute wait for a clerk in licensing. She was pleasant until she looked at my surname. And then she announced that I needed the "new form" of the birth certificate. Apparently, according to this woman, everyone in the state of Maryland got new birth certificates issued in the past two years, and my original, embossed birth certificate from the 80s, issued when I was born, was no longer a valid form of ID. News to me! She couldn't tell me what this whole "new form" was, but got two other clerks to agree with her. When I demanded to know where the DMV was informing people of this change in its "approved documents" portion of the website, she told me I had to leave. Frankly, the only "new forms" I could find anywhere were the new applications for undocumented immigrants to obtain driver's licenses in Maryland. So apparently, a surname containing a Z was sufficient enough for her to presume I was an illegal alien who needed the new form. Fantastic. Needless to say, I am avoiding this MVA like the plague from now on. And filing a complaint with the state about this. Don't waste your time here if you're at all ethnic. Drive elsewhere or expect to be fobbed off. read more

Since we moved to Clarksburg, my husband and I prefer to come to this MVA, which is about twice the distance from us than the closer branch. Am I a fan of the MVA? Ab-so--effing-lute-ly not. I wish more than anything I could take care of titling, registration, plates and my drivers license online. Quite frankly, going to the MVA makes me sweat, clench my teeth and gives me heart palpitations. However, I will say that compared to the Gaithersburg location (aka my own personal hell) the Frederick location is far superior. They seem to know what they're doing and get this--the employees actually smile here. And they're friendly and seem like they genuinely want to help you. I arrived just as they were opening the doors on Friday (bright and early at 8:30am) and was in and out in under 30 minutes. I am pretty sure this is a world record. I contacted Guinness, but they haven't gotten back to me yet. If you have to go to the MVA, go to this location. Just make sure you have everything you need (I know--easier said than done!) and be sure to bring your Social Security card and your birth certificate. Wouldn't hurt to bring your first born child, either. For good measure. read more

The BEST MVA I have ever went to! I mean, not trying to be rude.. But I used to hate just to have to go to an MVA before.. Until I met this very unity! They treat you with dignity and they look into your eyes to greet you and they don't yell at you like you are stupid or something. For the very first time I can say I really don't mind going there when I need too. And if someday I move to another place out of Frederick I will come back to this location to have my things done. Very worth it the trip! read more

As a former resident of PG County, I hated the Beltsville location as well as the next closest branch in White Oak. The employees there were rude and grumpy and there were always long waits to be had. Not so in Frederick! This branch is a fraction of the size of the aforementioned ones but things are smoother and quicker. I interacted with 5 different employees and all 5 were speedy, knowledgeable, and -- dare I say it -- pleasant. One woman in particular was warm and couldn't stop smiling. Are the handing out Molly at the MVA or what? I arrived at 2:30 and was out within 40 minutes max. Yet another reason I'm psyched to be out of ghetto PG! read more

If I could give zero stars I would. You want to know why I want government to stay out of my life. Just go and visit the DMV of Frederick County. This has to be the worse DMV! Washington County is worth the drive. They should fire every person from the top down and start fresh at this location. I can't believe people actually think the government could run something like health care. Their online wait time said 20 mins, after waiting an hour and 15 mins I asked how much longer and they said typically it's 2 plus hours once you receive a ticket. Our county government at its best. read more

Let's face it, going to the DMV is not gonna be a fun way to spend your waking hours. My sister recommended that I drive out of my way to this location to get my out of state license exchanged. I am SO glad that I did! All of the four of the staff that I interacted with were polite and cordial. When I ran into a snag after discovering that I needed a birth certificate because my passport had recently expired, they gave me detailed instructions for how to get to the health department to buy a birth certificate and promptly scheduled me back into the much more crowded queue an hour later. I imagine that my experience in Glen Burnie would NOT have been nearly as pleasant or fast. I have changed licenses there before and it was a lot more crowded.
