The Cobb salad was fresh, and the blue cheese dressing was especially good. The nachos were a pleasant surprise--they use real melted cheese instead of queso, and they were loaded with toppings. Being from out of state, we were told we had to try the chislic since it's a South Dakota staple. It reminded us a little of Chinese-style spare ribs in flavor. It was definitely tasty, though a bit chewier than we expected. Even so, we're glad we tried it and would recommend it to anyone wanting to experience a local specialty. Shooters is a classic small-town bar with lots of domestic beer, lots of country music (bleh), lots of pool tables, and lots of cowboy hats...but damnit, I love it anyway. I haven't eaten here since I was a child (chicken strip basket and a Shirley Temple, please!), but I'm a vegetarian now and I doubt there'd be many options for me. However, I loved the food as a kid (typical bar and grill food), and my grandma often took us here for dinner when we stayed with her. It was pretty busy in there so once we ordered it did take sometime for the food to come out (roughly 30 minutes). Now when we were given our food, we both ordered a medium rare 8oz sirloin steak with the sides of garlic mashed potatoes and the new cheesy broccoli. My fiancé's steak seemed to of been overcooked on one side but then only cooked for a few seconds on the other. The cheese on the broccoli was not at all melted; though to mention it again they were very busy and with my own experience in the food business, it's all understandable. As we were finishing up the manager came by and asked us how everything was and of course, my fiancé brought up what we experienced just so that there was a way to fix it. We were far from mad, which in turn the manager was very nice. He explained to us the reasoning for the steaks, which was very reasonable, and did apologize for the broccoli. After leaving our table for a while he came back with our check, and ended up taking $20 off, which was far from generous. So all together service was excellent and I'm looking forward to try the cheesy broccoli again, maybe this time during a time where they are not so busy.
