In addition, when we asked down in the bakery counter what was vegan, the person behind the counter was dismissive and unfriendly. Late afternoons it's very busy with lines of people trying to purchase & outdoor seating overflowing. Each stall beautifully presents its wares. Between stalls are magnificent fountains. I understand we can bring out gourmet picnic from the market to the beer hall, and enjoy my meal with a cold brew. However, by the end of the day after 20,000 + steps my feet hurt, I'm tired & just want to be served. The Viktualienmarkt developed from an original farmers' market in 1807 to a popular market for gourmets. There are now 140 stalls and shops offering flowers, exotic fruit, game, poultry, spices, chocolates, wines & cider, pastries, cheese, fish, juices....

Weiter so!! Aber ohne MICH, meine Familie, Freunde und Bekannte.

So happy I finally made the trip to check out this wonderland of Italian food and, most…read moreimportantly, WINE! It's a no-frills warehouse, so don't expect a luxurious Käfer-like experience. That includes the service. You won't find much help if you're wandering the aisles like a sad, lost puppy. Fortunately most aisles are laid out pretty clearly and it's generally easy to find what one is looking for. Among my favorites: excellent selection of pasta (of course), especially some interesting and unusual DeCecco shapes that you won't see at Rewe. The refrigerated pasta section with fresh stuffed egg pastas is also very nice. Good selection of fresh and jarred antipasti and sauces, desserts. Cheese selection felt somewhat lacking, but they cover the basics and a bit more, including quality ricotta, buffalo mozzarella and burrata. The wine selection is just incredible. I got a selection of several quality bottles of Tuscan and Piemontese wines for under 30 Euro. They also offer wine tasting events on the schedule that look interesting and fun. When you're done with your purchases, do treat yourself to a an excellent cappuccino or espresso at the bar and maybe a panini. It's a bit far out from the city center, but absolutely worth the trip if you're a lover of Italian delicacies at good prices and want to stock up.
