We stopped by to see Dourdan and grab some coffee on our way to Chartre on a Saturday in August. We were in no rush and not expecting much. That is what we got.. not much.
The Chateau is located near the city center and a beautiful church stands across from it. The streets were being cleaned when we arrived so we parked a little above the cobblestone city center. The city is very picturesque but not much going on when we arrived.. not sure whether it was because it was Saturday around 1 or it's just a dead village.
The medieval castle was open and we walked through the grand gates into a spacious courtyard where several people were taking naps on the grass. There was also a trebuchet frame along one of the walls. That is the only remarkable thing because we decided not to spend any more time there or pay the 4 euros per person to enter the castle / museum.
So if you have time to make a detour then sure, go for it. But If drive by this place, no worries: there are other places that are far better. read more
