I've attended 3 different machine gun shoots with Neil and the guys. The first was by myself on a Father's Day (Reno NBC was there), the 2nd was a Columbus Day (this conflicts with the East Coast Knob Creek shoot), and the third was with 2 other friends and we split a "The Works" package. The experience is clearly "as good as it gets!" without signing up for a stint in the Army.
Unfortunately, environmental conditions have cut back on what Neil and MR can do because the night time tracer shoots have started brush fires which have to be put out before they got out of hand. I don't know what they current status is but I do know it has to constantly change.
Here you get to experience the technology you witness on news footage. It tends to jam and break, so its best to sample early. You take your chances late in the show if you delay. Things don't always work well.
Also, the other attendees make a difference. My 2nd time attending, a fellow brought his restored M113 APC and sold rides (worth it), nicely restored.
I had previous sampled an M240 SAW and a dozen submachine guns in Las Vegas, so over the 3 MR times I sampled .30 cal, M60, M2, 20 mm, AK-47, the M79, flame thrower (M2), and a Steyer. Friends tried a Soviet MG. You get to see samples of various other technology. Occasionally someone would bring a 37 mm cannon.
The staff are great: men and women, ALL races, creeds, and religions (or not). They try to provide food and ear protection. Plan a whole day. It's heavily attended by the foreign press in the past. read more
