Mommy & Me Musikgarten Time offers Music and Movement Classes that promote musical aptitude, focused listening, singing and rhythmic skills, motor coordination, language development, social development and ensemble skills.
Each Musikgarten session is designed according to how children learn and develop. The program takes a holistic approach to music education, allowing your child to combine motor skills, active listening, language, and social interaction in every lesson. Musikgarten is a fun and exciting program that will instill a life-long love of music in any child!
History
Established in 1994.
In 1994, Dr. Lorna Lutz Heyge merged her music education background with the experience and input of childhood education specialist, Audrey Sillick.
Dr. Heyge, began making a name for herself in the world of early-childhood music in 1971 as the assistant director of a music school in Germany. Commissioned by the authors of the curriculum she taught to preschool children, Heyge adapted the program and brought it to North America in 1974 as Kindermusik, educating hundreds of teachers about this curriculum before selling the business in 1993.
She met Audrey Sillick in the Toronto Montessori School and with her guidance continued to study the role of music and movement on the development of young children. Together, the two authors wrote curricula that reflected their combined education, experience, and the latest research in childhood development. Their beliefs and studies are at the core of the Musikgarten curricula -- the same solid instruction offered since 1994.
Meet the Business Owner: Lynn K.
Lynn Keyes, a lifelong musician, began studying music at a young age. After high school, she began her advanced studies at the University of Utah where she studied voice and California State University, Long Beach where she studied piano. In 1988, after establishing her family, she began giving piano and voice lessons in Brookfield, where she resides. In addition to giving music lessons, Lynn has held board positions for community as well as professional non-profit music organizations. She has served as accompanist, director, pit orchestra and choral conductor for community, school, and church events. Her enthusiasm and love for music is evident and her willingness to serve is endless. She is not only known by many adults in the community but by the youth as well. It brings her great joy when she is out and hears a voice from the distance, "Hey.....Mrs. Keyes!" Lynn, a mother of three, loves bringing the joy of music to children and their families.
